rover6 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 I have a major problem with Ince not using Villanueva at the moment. He proved against Grimsby that he's capable of playing football. He may not be at peak fitness - but can he not manage 15 minutes at the end of a game? It will surely damage his confidence to be overlooked continually.

Bobby G Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Its a load of crap bringing on Treacy every game and not giving Carlos a chance. He is a match-winner and everyone knows it. For God's sake he played in South America in the Copa Libertadores, and you dont get more physical than that, do you? He better start against Fulham as there wont be a better opportunity. Yesterday at 2-0 down, he should have been on.
rover6 Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Disagree about Treacy. Against West Ham, he came on and revitilised our attack. (Even if it did go pear-shaped in the end). Villanueva should've been on instead Benni Mac.
Bobby G Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 My point wasnt that Treacy isnt good. But Treacy will never be more than an honest, hardworking squad player who can cross and runs. So in my mind, he will never be a game-changing sub. I could be wrong. But Villanueva is a player that can change any game at any given moment, with the touch of the ball. You dont get those kinds of players everyday.
Amo Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Surely if Arsenal were walking right through us, it would have been worth throwing Villanueva on and telling either Reid or Andrews (preferably Reid) to stay back and shield the back four? That's what I would have done, and us fans are always right.
67splitscreen Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Carlos' dream Let's hope it all becomes reality sooner than later. Positive comments all round, but there hardly going to add to the negativity surrounding the club, especially on the MB's. Having said that some of his comments will no doubt be twisted, to give the doom & gloom army (bad weather Etc.) more ammunition for attacking the clubs management. Here's hoping for a PL debut against Fulham.
Hughesy Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Even though the interview went on today, its an old one. Given away by the last paragraph where he says he hopes to get some minutes against Arsenal. Good to see him happy and wanting to stay on after his loan. Time to blood him against Fulham I think.
joey_big_nose Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Got to come in against Fulham. Hodgson has created a clever passing side but they are not bruisers and they will give the small man space. The constant problem I guesss is that we will be looking at 451 to accomodate the Chilean but that could suit us as we need to shore up. The fans need something to cheer about!
RibbleValleyRover Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Good to hear Roque and his brother are trying to help him settle in both on and off the field. A lot of young players in particular from South America come over and struggle to adapt to a foreign country, something the South American expert Tim Vickery talks about quite a lot. I’d like to see Carlos get some time on the pitch against Fulham, that’s doesn’t necessarily mean he has to start. Introducing him into the game in the second half for a couple of games could help him adapt easier to the style and pace of the premier league.

I am amazed that some of the more virulent attackers of Rovers matters and of JW and the board in particular have not already blamed him/them for the weather. What's up Frisky Jim, Damage and Vinjay are you losing your touch as well as your marbles?

Amo Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 The guy has to play against Fulham. I don't care if Ince thinks the guy is off-the-pace, the only way he's gonna get match-fit is by playing competitive fixtures. If we wanna play open football (this time against a team we actually play) then give him a go, because the alternative is pretty depressing.
92er Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Even though the interview went on today, its an old one. Given away by the last paragraph where he says he hopes to get some minutes against Arsenal. I have just read it again and can't see any mention of Arsenal-just the Premier league.
Head Rover Heels Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I have just read it again and can't see any mention of Arsenal-just the Premier league. It's been edited then - It definately, 100%, said Arsenal before.
Hughesy Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Was the interview not also in saturdays match programme? I think it may of been.
Iceman Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Yes it was. He was on the cover, well thats what i saw on the website
Blue n White Rover Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Yes it was. He was on the cover, well thats what i saw on the website Yes it was in the Matchday Programme, Also played on Radio Rovers after the game.
67splitscreen Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 It's been edited then - It definately, 100%, said Arsenal before. Agree, as poster of the link, it has since been edited, he definitely mentioned Arsenal. Eyes watching the MB for reactions me thinks
rover6 Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 That kind of sly censorship really annoys me. I thought it was interesting that Villaneuva was not stressed about the possibility of not playing against Arsenal. An indication of the sort of guy he is, I thought.
RibbleValleyRover Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He comes across as quite level headed. He clearly believes this first season is all about finding his feet, getting used to the on and off the field differences in another country and playing when the opportunity arises. Quite a sensible viewpoint to take IMO.
blue phil Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He may not be at peak fitness - but can he not manage 15 minutes at the end of a game? It will surely damage his confidence to be overlooked continually. Now is the time to start him - against Fulham . Forget about the 15 minutes at the end of the game . I'd also like Treacy to start . I hope to goodness that they don't have to wait until the Everton game . The pressure might really be on by then ....
LeChuck Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Now is the time to start him - against Fulham . Forget about the 15 minutes at the end of the game . I have to agree, in place of Roberts in my opinion. Roberts and Santa Cruz stay too far up field, leaving a big gap between strikers and midfield in centre, which caused Andrews and to a lesser extent Reid to push forward when they really should have been holding back. Put Carlos in the hole behind Roque, push the wingers up and tell the full-backs to concentrate on defence a bit more, and get the central midfielders to be more disciplined. Could solve a lot of our problems.

Warnock is good at helping out Pedersen on the Left Wing, however, when the opposition are attacking he goes AWOL, which causes him to catch up and make silly last ditch tackles.
Fife Rover Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Frisky Jim, Rovers supporter.?????????????????? I don't think so. No I dont think so either; what makes you think I do? The three I mentioned are (going by the wording used in all their posts) quite clearly not Rovers supporters; more like Rovers most implacable enemies.

Pedersen is good at helping out Warnock at left back.
