Zulu Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Irrespective of local tribal club rivalries I think that the gist of this open letter from Ivan Campo to Bolton Wanderers fans following his somewhat abrupt departure from the Reebok shows that not all footballers are just in it for the money. Three points I need to make: I am sure that there are certain Blackburn players who care just as much for the Rovers supporters. Yes, Blackburn Rovers FC are probably just as capable of getting rid of a player without considering the fans wishes to say goodbye as Bolton Wanderers are. Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum. Mods, please move it if you see fit. Anyway here it is... http://www.guillembalague.com/guestwriter_desp.php?id=9

Head Rover Heels Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Makes for good reading actually - I would imagine that's brought a little tear to a few trotters' eyes.
Zulu Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 The guy's got style - and he's nothing like the general perception of him around the game. Robbie Savage, do I hear you say?
Sparky Marky Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 He his a top guy....My lads in the Bolton academy and they went to Euxton last season for a medical etc and Campo was there...left behind on a saturday to train with the stiffs...this was when Sammy Lee was in charge.....He was the only Pro to approach the kids and played kick about and even rugby tackled a few kids...at which point the lot of them piled on top of him....all you could see under about 15 kids was a mop of curly hair.... Top Guy and a great footballer.
Ozz Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Good stuff, thanks Zulu for the link. Where is he now, still playing? As for Savage, he is a bit of a doughnut, but was/is held in high esteem by the majority at Ewood. Always gave 100% and spoke very well of all at Ewood. Shame about his tattoos though
philipl Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I always rated Campo and thought he was an absolutely top guy. Well done to Ivan.

Claytons Left Boot Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 A very good player and after reading that piece, coupled with what folk on here have said about him, him character shines through. Pity there aren't more like him.
doctorryan Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I always rated Campo and thought he was an absolutely top guy. Well done to Ivan. I concur.
philipl Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 He's just a fat Michael Jackson We could always rely on the board's resident bright spark to come up with some trash like that.
vintageadidas Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 What an amazing letter.......great guy. I remember Stuart Ripley doing something similar, he was also a top man.

No doubt if Campo had been a Rovers player you'd be waxing lyrically about how he was technically the best midfielder the World had ever seen. As it is, I'm sure his departure from Bolton only goes to further show was a smashing transfer window we are having.
S15 Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I'm not sure about this Campo bloke... An open letter? The mercenary could quite easily have written to every fan who wrote to him, he has sod all else to do. Impossible he says. Fat and lazy I say. Money grabbing tosser.
SAS Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 What an amazing letter.......great guy. I remember Stuart Ripley doing something similar, he was also a top man. Talking of whom, he was taking his Motorcycle test today, and i was riding the one he had trained on, He is currently studying a law degree ...
Roost Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Talking of whom, he was taking his Motorcycle test today, and i was riding the one he had trained on, He is currently studying a law degree ... Thats a really weird looking sentence.......................
Fife Rover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Thanks for sharing that little insight with us Zulu. It certainly is very refreshing to see something like that these days when the vast majority of professional footballers are only interested in getting as much money out of the game and into their own pockets as they possibly can. Obviously Ivan Campo had a lot more about him than just being a damned good midfielder, and he certainly seems to have appreciated the support he got from the Trotters fans. Just wish there were a lot more like him.
Eddie Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 He is currently studying a law degree They're very interesting things to look at... Much respect to Campo.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Excellent to read a letter like that. Unfortunately there aren't too many out there who show that kind of respect to the fans.

I have to agree and I liked it, good on him. There will always be people who doubt sincerity in matters like this, but sometimes it is better to take these things at face value.
