Lathund Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zo...r-lukas-konigsh Anyone else think this move is a complete waste of time? No. If he's a solid keeper it'll allow us to sell Fielding + either Brown or Bunn and will allow us a bigger transfer budget. If he's even better it'll give us a young backup keeper, who we could either keep and groom as a future number one, or allow us to sell to a Championship team. If he turns out to be a great player... well, no negative in that is it? Of course, if he's rubbish then yes it's a waste of time. But that goes for every signing. Generally I'm in favour of signing young, talented players regardless of position, as long as the fee is decent. He's a backup at an Austrian club, and has yet to play for them so I don't think we're talking a big fee here.

Bennisfromheaven Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Yeh I know that, I was just saying that we'd have a better idea of the budget when we know we're not going down; so then talks could start and if we keep doing well this season the talks can develop further. I cant see the board discussing any further developments of the playing & management staff until the league standings are finalised. It took them long enough to make a full decision on Ince & the ever changing budget last year was also evident of indecisiveness! I realise the board is in a tough position at the moment but i would like to see them being a little braver this summer!! Then again, we may not be an established premier league club had they been that way inclined!! .......i just cant decide!?!
HemelRover Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I think Man City might take issue with us selling him... Whoops! Missed that one completly.
Hughesy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I shall be making this my signature. Feel free. As for this young keeper. Anything is worth a look. Brown will be going. Fielding may also move on to a lower league club for a fee.
JC4LAB Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Someone has come with Bentley & Cisse as being on Sams wishlist..on a Sky forum..Just chinese whispers I would say..
Iceman Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Damn, i said a few years back that we should sign Pienaar, but got laughed at. Oh well, would have been ace in midfield :-)
Blue n White Rover Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Style isnt an issue Try saying that to Mr. Wenger I agree with you in one sense, but we can't have long ball stuff all the time, it's a bit boring, football is for entertainment aswell. However, for me the key is the results, anything else is a bonus. That's the only attitude Rovers fans can employ with Big Sam, if not i'm sure Waggy has a spare seat next to him in the pub
Billy Castell Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Someone has come with Bentley & Cisse as being on Sams wishlist..on a Sky forum..Just chinese whispers I would say.. As a player, Bentley would be good, but I doubt he'd be welcomed back by many. He's burnt his bridges and made himself look like a right big time Charlie. Not sure about Cisse, he is inconsistent.
thenodrog Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Well I think I would get over the disappointment if he isn't. Yeah right... and if we get rid of the man that saved us from the drop without spending hardly a bean just who do you think of any quality would come running to manage a cash strapped BRFC then? Just as an aside I seem to rem that SA likes to get his deals done early in the transfer window rather than scratting about and panicking at the end as we are prone to do.

Best get new players in early, have them get to know the rest of the players, the setup etc and start the season off well.

philipl Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Probably worth noting that there is probably a swing of £5m in prize money up for grabs by Rovers depending on how we finish the season.
LeChuck Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 "Liverpool are keen on taking on Moroccan striker Mounir El Hamdaoui, while Arsenal also wait in the wings on the AZ Alkmaar star. (The Sun)" Looks like he's one that got away. Didn't we have him on trial a few years ago but decided against buying him? I've got a feeling he scored for us in a pre-season friendly, although I could be mistaken.
rovers1993 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 no he wasnt the one on trial. mohamed al-mommadi or something like that was on trial, he was a right winger unlike this guy who is a forward.
LeChuck Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Nah I haven't confused those two, I'm talking years ago here. I think it was Souness who was in charge at the time. I think we had a young Italian on trial around that time too who impressed in pre-season, his name began with 'V' I think. Wonder what happened to him? Edit: Rey Volpato! Turns out he's a bit crap though so we did well on that one at least.
T4E Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 You're right Dean. It was around the time we had Peter Odemwingie on trial too. The Italian was called Rey Volpato.
Hughesy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 So we are talking at least 5 years then? He hasnt really set the world alight then because he's hardly a household name. Probably just junk to fill the pages anyway. Summer should be interesting. There is obviously going to be alot of players on their way out (Mokoena, Ooijer, Brown, Gallagher, Simpson) Thats 5 before we even start to think about selling anyone like Roque. We really need to pick up some gems this summer.
LeChuck Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 You're right Dean. It was around the time we had Peter Odemwingie on trial too. The Italian was called Rey Volpato. Ah Odemwingie, totally forget about him. I really wanted us to sign him at the time (as did unleaded if I remember rightly!), I never understood why we didn't really. Just had a look at his Wiki page, and this was in it: "and two against AC Milan at the San Siro to take Lille to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, but the club couldn't resist a €17 million offer from Lokomotiv". Sounds like he turned out be a good 'un too.
Amo Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Souness had a look at him, then the guy went to Spurs and couldn't break into the first-team.
unleaded Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 David Hoilett is a Rovers player already and if Rovers can get around the paperwork we will have a star on our hands and save alot of money as well......He has been discribed by his current coach as "The star of the centery2... FC St Pauli have him on loan from Blackburn but is set for Hamburg if Rovers cannot get the work permit this summer.............he has been on contract with Rovers for nearly 5 years now and it is make or break time........... Video of Hoilett In action..........looks like young Henry
rovers1993 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 wonder who the giant behind him is? perhaps another samba in the making ??
T4E Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Rovers player already? Can you elaborate on that please?
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Rovers player already? Can you elaborate on that please? Canadian youngster signed by the academy many years ago and is currently on loan in order to qualify for a work permit.
LeChuck Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If he was signed many years ago then surely sending him to Cercle Brugges would have been better...I don't think it takes long to get a Belgian passport, hence why quite a few English clubs have links with Belgian teams. He hasn't played for Canada so I'm not sure how he'll be more eligible for a work permit now than when he arrived.
