unleaded Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Rovers Linked with Florent Sinama-Pongolle In Sundays News of The World..............Had him scouted last week...........
Mozzer Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 we should of signed him when we had the chance.. he would cost alot of money tho wont he-im guessing more then 6million.. is in the athletico madrid team??
nicko Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Gueye is coming to sign and become another striker in the squad. Janko is favourite to replace Roque if he goes. Sinama-Pongolle is guesswork...they went to the game to watch the right back who didn't play. The current 'panic' position is right back...people being watched everywhere and a 'trialist' in for that position next week. Ticking along OK.

krislu Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 This guy is meant to be the new Adeaboyer....The metz fans rate him and think he is similar to the Arsenal man and Just needs to put some Muscle Mass on his body............ He does look like an out ` n ` out striker. Free kick.......excelllent................. But his trow-ins must stink given his amputated left hand...
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 according to someone on the main forum-dont know weather its true-but rovers are resigned to losing santa cruz next week and have lined up a French guy called Gignac?? Might as well say it before someone else does, another FM legend... Gueye well what can you say, at that price he is worth a gamble. Just wondering why we are looking to bring more strikers in, if Roque goes i see the point of bringing in a replacement but why bring in another as well as keep Roque/bring in a Roque replacement. We aren't in Europe so why do we need that many strikers?
spencey7 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 The current 'panic' position is right back...people being watched everywhere and a 'trialist' in for that position next week. Ticking along OK. Cheers for all tonight's info Nicko. Are we just forgetting about a right winger altogether? I find it totally bizarre that we're not more concerned about that position than finding another striker, or even a right back.

I find it totally bizarre that we're not more concerned about that position than finding another striker, or even a right back. Perhaps Sam thinks Bert/Dunny/Judge are suitable choices until the summer. I think Bert was shocking on the right wing today, but when he was moved to right back he was very decent. I sound like a broken record i know but i think Bert can do a decent job at right back.
Backroom Tom Posted January 18, 2009 Backroom Posted January 18, 2009 Might as well say it before someone else does, another FM legend... I think many people rate him higher as he is a local lad.
steverovers Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I'd hope its to replace Derbyshire who is looking like an average championship player at best. I think many people rate him higher as he is a local lad. Derbyshire may not be good enough for a regular first team start, but he does have the knack of bagging a goal from the bench. That kind of player is useful to have around - especially as he doesn't seem to want to leave because he doesn't start.
Hughesy Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Exactly TCO - Derbyshire tries hard, but just isnt premier league standard but he gets a better crack of the whip because he is local and people want him to succeed. Nothing wrong with that, but we have to realise that we would be better to have 4 quality strikers rather than 3 + him. Cant believe Pongolle is still only 24!! This guys seems to of been around for ever!
modes98 Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I'd hope its to replace Derbyshire who is looking like an average championship player at best. I think many people rate him higher as he is a local lad. Derbyshire is a decent squad player. He will never be world class, but is a world class player going to be happy sitting on our bench? When he comes on late in games he invariably scores.
Majiball Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Derbyshire is a decent squad player. He will never be world class, but is a world class player going to be happy sitting on our bench? When he comes on late in games he invariably scores. He's a home-grown player we need him for europe next season!!! Is it me or does this Gueye chap look really skinny in his photo's? Perhaps Benni can help him bulk up.
Veevs Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Maybe we are being more cautious than we have been sign a potential replacement just in case RSC does move at the end of the window... I am sure Darth Vader is looking at the right wing position..
alexanders Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I would love Sinama Pongolle in our team, especially since he is doing very well as a right winger on Atletico Madrid. I agree with the guy who said we shold've signed him when we had the chance. Him and Bellamy had a very good partnership.
Bobby G Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 He isnt playing as a right winger. Maxi their captain is.
alexanders Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Last time I saw him playing he played as a right winger with Forlan / Aguero on top. He looked class.
Eddie Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 This guy is meant to be the new Adeaboyer....The metz fans rate him and think he is similar to the Arsenal man and Just needs to put some Muscle Mass on his body............ He does look like an out ` n ` out striker. Free kick.......excelllent................. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...franc-met_sport Little Video for you ,.............. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/searc...vido-babs_sport Metz are my team here in France, although I'm not exactly a passionate supporter and he'll certainly be a loss to the side. I'm not sure about the next Adebayor, but a more skilled version of Roberts is probably a good way to describe him. His strength and pace will mean he'll be useful in the league no matter what, even if he is bit raw at the moment. For a fee of around a million I think he could turn out to be a very good signing. Metz...Nancy...do our scouts have a lot of package deals to the east of France?
Bobby G Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Eddie, can he play on the wing? In terms of pace, who would you compare him with? How fast is he? And in terms of strength does he match Roberts? Best assets, and weaknesses?
alexanders Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Must have been cause Maxi has been injured. So - he isnt in the first XI?
Bobby G Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Definitely not a regular starter for them, but injuries have meant he has had a run this season in various positions. Forlan and Aguero are first choice up front, and Maxi is the captain who plays on the right wing.
Eddie Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Eddie, can he play on the wing? In terms of pace, who would you compare him with? How fast is he? And in terms of strength does he match Roberts? Best assets, and weaknesses? He's fast, not lightning, but he's fast. He's fairly slight, but strong. He doesn't match Roberts yet, but he could. His best assets are his pace, power and the fact that he is also skilled. His biggest weakness is probably that because he is a bit raw his decision making isn't always the best. Comparing him to Adebayor is unfair on both of them, but he is the kind of player Arsenal would sign. All of the makings of a great player are there, it will just require luck, hard work on his part and good coaching to get him there. His record in Ligue 2 is good, his record in Ligue 1 isn't so impressive, but Metz aren't a good side and whenever they've been up they have struggled badly. Oh and he is a striker, not a winger. I'm sure he could be of some use out on the wing, but I don't think I've ever seen him really play out there.
Bobby G Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 News related to us is we are interested in Sinama-Pongolle according to one of the Sundays and that Sam wants Sturridge in part-exchange for Roque if City want to bid again.
