Bobby G Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Actually it makes sense. He is ours till you show us the money. Id like City to nick a point right now, largely to prevent Stoke from going over us, but Id hope that Roque stays either way.
blue and whites Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 i would want us to go for kerzhakov who plays in russia! i don't think he would cost that much and he would give us something we don't have at all, great pace! he also have quite good skills. can't see why anyone have not been going for him...
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Roque in the starting line-up vs Boro instead of Roberts... that's a pretty big statement from Sam Definitely, if a move was close then he would either be on the bench or not featuring at all in order to protect him from an injury.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Definitely, if a move was close then he would either be on the bench or not featuring at all. All about spin. If I had the blatant spinning skills of Phillip, I'd be saying it's his swansong.
andyroversmad Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Wouldnt spend anymore than 7.5 million on Crouch! Damn overpriced english players I wouldnt pay anymore than 5 million !!!!!!! If Crouch is gonna replace Roque id rather keep Roque till the summer.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 All about spin. If I had the blatant spinning skills of Phillip, I'd be saying it's his swansong. True, i guess we will have to wait and see if he is still here after the window closes. Though if the club were going to sell him surely you would wrap him up in cotton wool, especially when we are talking a possible £20 million + deal.
herbergeehh Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 But Roque leaving and Crouch coming, this would surely mean we can sign another quality player aswell? The ten millions in between doesn't help us staying up in itself. If you're feeling down, by the way, some fans are worse off than us
DeadlyDirk Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 It's always going to be a good move to play Roque today, mainly as he's our best player and secondly because if he does well it just reiterates what a good player he is and gives us further power in any bidding. I still think the best striker we can get in the window is Roque, Crouch would come second but in my opinion he's only about 80% of the player Roque is, they need to show us the money to persuade us otherwise. I still maintain it's vital we keep the players we have more than it is to be bringing anyone in right now.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 But Roque leaving and Crouch coming, this would surely mean we can sign another quality player aswell? The ten millions in between doesn't help us staying up in itself. If you're feeling down, by the way, some fans are worse off than us 2 days left of the window, haven't been linked to any midfielders especially an attacking midfielder... If sell Roque we will get a replacement and bank the rest until the summer or it will vanish.
jim mk2 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Santa Cruz and McCarthy don't play well together so if Allardyce is trying to make some sort of "point" playing SC then it's pretty daft IMO splitting up the McCarthy-Roberts partnership that had been working well. We haven't lost at Boro since the age of the dinosaurs which makes me feel very queasy about today.

If you're feeling down, by the way, some fans are worse off than us I suspect it'll be £10 mill for Crouch, rest to pay overdraft and maybe one more in on loan
Fife Rover Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Chee-Te Thank heavens for that; Iwas beginning to get a wee bitty worried. Couldn't think what to tell Mrs FR if she asked what Rovers new player was called.
1864roverite Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 if anything its a statement of intent playing McCarthy and Cruz today. Rovers should take some impetus into the game from wednesday night when RSC had us moving forwards. The single biggest issue for the team today is again the glaring lack of creativity within the central unit fo our team. I know that I repeatedly have slated Andrews but he is the one weak link today, he doesnt give us anything in the middle of the park with exception to adding choas in amongst our own players. Middlesboro have a big back 4 today, with Huth Riggot and Wheater featuring, that says to me they are playing safety first football, protection at the back with speed and a bit of agility up front with King and Tuncay. Rovers have to be careful. is the game online radio anywhere?
Ricky Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 And today we see yet again why I'd take Bent over Crouch as a replacement for Santa Cruz (if he goes) Bent scores goals, its as simple as that. If Spurs want Santa Cruz we should take Bent as part of the deal. He even scored goals in a poor Ipswich side.
roversmad95 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Both of his goals were scrappy. at least he scored....
rovers1995 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 City have bid for Santa Cruz again, we best not sell
BRFC1995 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 looking on another board it seems bolton are adding on the nolan money and bidding 14m for veloso, carlos queiroz at bolton match, significant in any way?

roversmad95 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 did anyone watch the game? how did santa cruz play like he wanted to stay?
bigbrandjohn Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Cant help thinking that going ugly early and taking the money for Santa Cruz and getting Beattie back would have been a good move. We are backed in a corner now clutching at straws while Beattie has gained a precious three points for Stoke today.
RibbleValleyRover Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 did anyone watch the game? how did santa cruz play like he wanted to stay? Listening to the radio he had a good game, tested the keeper with a few shots one swerving one required a great save. There was also the time when he got through on goal but the ref pulled it back for a handball that apparently wasn't. He's not playing that badly, just needs a goal or two and he could go on a run.
