Fylde Coast Fan Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 "Motherwell hope to have an English Premier League striker in their squad in time for Saturday's league match at home to Kilmarnock. Fir Park manager Jim Gannon would not name the player but is confident of concluding the deal - probably a loan. "He's a decent young player, coming from a Premiership club and we hope he can add something to us," Gannon told BBC Scotland. "At the same time, I think he hopes we can help him to move on in his career." " Story on the BBC Football page - fits Gally's profile?

Atty Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I think selling samba sends out the wrong message to the fans and other clubs. We cant keep selling our best players and replacing them with cheap or free transfers and gambling that they will be as good. We have already sold rocky but if a big offer for samba came in then SAM would be under big pressure to sell so we can give more money back to the bank. Lets say we get over 10M for samba how much do you think SAM will get of the 10m to spend on a replacement?
The Prof. Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 It would be good if we valued him on how important he is to us, but we cant... If a big bid comes in will the bank not pressure us to accept it??? It would be a massive loss, but you can see that Sam was looking at the bigger picture when he signed Givet... centre half if Samba goes... left back if Warnock goes, clever business by the big man, I think if it happens, with the money left we could end up a stronger team, and that is what Sam will be looking at, as much as it pains me to admit it!!! Do we still have a debt? I thought that was paid off last year. Because, take off your Blue and White specs, and you'll accept that £10m is over his true value. Does Moyes strike you as a complete cretin? Why on earth would he pay more than the entire fee he recieve for a better player on Samba? To suit another club? Recieving over the odds for a player who cost us about twenty quid, allowing us to further strengthen our team is totally to the advantage of our club. Ditto - I though £9m would be enough myself to force a sale. It's not enough though IMO.
I_saw_Batty_score Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Come the end of the season, or even January, Samba's presence could be the difference between midtable or relegation scrap. If each place is worth £500k then being 8-10 places higher is worth a hell of a lot of cash to appease those bankers. That is why I say put up the barricades. The telegraph reckons that each place was worth £760,000 last season. £760 grand a place Shows how much Samba was worth to us last season. Must keep him at all costs in my view. Sell him on next season when we've had time to find a replacement and get them upto speed.
The Prof. Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 According to www.transfermarkt.co.uk Steve Gohouri is banned from Bundesliga football until "End of June 10" he has been banned for "34 Matches" - Not sure what he has done to get that ban. But if true, surely that could mean he is just keeping his fitness up at Brockhall to maybe earn himself a move away from Germany and possibly away from his ban. If he is indeed banned till the end of his contract, then maybe his club want him off their books? Also Steve Gohouri has been completely ommited from the Borussia Monchengladbach team photo and his profile has been deleted from the club website. In that case if he's not got a transferable ban a years loan would be good business - he might be better than Samba! Sounds more than a disco thingy - sure he hasn't tested for something? Very unlikely, our wage bill is already being stretched by bringing in Salgado. If Samba and Warnock are sold then i can only see 2 players coming in, not four or 5. And i can't see them being big names either. Might even get them paid for us to keep him match fit or he'd be released.
47er Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 A big fat NO to sellimg Samba and would only sell Warnock for Bentley. Sick of other clubs cherry-picking our best players.
Pinch Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Really Theno? We could be selling Chris for £10m+, replacing him with a cheapie...and for some reason continue to ignore the infirmary ward that is our centre of midfield? Wait...Sam's going to try Salgado there isn't he?
thenodrog Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Perhaps because we'd receive around £10 million and spend around 1/10th of that on replacing him? It's all hypothetical - I hope he stays and helps us to progress. Samba should only be sold IF Sam is given the full amount from the sale to both replace him and build the squad. What's the point if not eh Theno? To keep our powder dry for January? Really Theno? We could be selling Chris for £10m+, replacing him with a cheapie...and for some reason continue to ignore the infirmary ward that is our centre of midfield? Obvious. It's a balancing act. It would provide a return on investment for the shareholders wouldn't it? If we don't do that then they will be unlikely to support the club financially when we really need it. I know I wouldn't like to keep chucking good money after bad with no return.
TimmyJimmy Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Lescott is the finished article, that's why Hughes wants him. Samba is not the finished article that's why Hughes doesn't want him (yet). Sambo knows he has a way to go and so (assuming the wages are the same) he has to balance which manager/club will help him develop the fastest. I think he knows that Rovers is the place to be right now. Personally I also think Everton will struggle this year and that last year was blip for them. Conclusion - there's no prospect of him moving unless [a] Sam doesn't want him, we won't pay him what he's worth or [c] Sam needs the cash that his transfer will bring in. Of those three only [c] is of the remotest possibility. Unless a top 4 club come in for him he's staying, at least for this transfer window. Famous last words ?
Jackson Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 If we don't do that then they will be unlikely to support the club financially when we really need it. .........nope, still waiting.
nicko Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Bit of Gohouri info... He has a year left on his contract but is being isolated at the club because he won't re-sign. My source tells me he got his info about coming to Rovers from Borussia Munchengladbach, so it seems straightforward. He should be here already or will be here soon.
herbergeehh Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Heard anything re Santana, Nicko? It's Tribalfootball, but they've probably pinched it from somewhere? Maybe he's the creative source we need.
roversfan1 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Heard anything re Santana, Nicko? It's Tribalfootball, but they've probably pinched it from somewhere? Maybe he's the creative source we need. As you say its probably bobbins but he is another bloody winger!!
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Heard anything re Santana, Nicko? It's Tribalfootball, but they've probably pinched it from somewhere? Maybe he's the creative source we need. Mario Alberto Santana http://www.tribalfootball.com/blackburn-ri...-santana-266311
modes98 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 He has a year left on his contract but is being isolated at the club because he won't re-sign. I can't understand it when clubs do that. What are they expecting to get out of it? If they kept playing him and nobody comes in for him then he may re-sign and you get an extra season out of him. Freeze a player out and there is a 0% chance they will re-sign. Keep our CBs and sign this guy on a free next summer.
Guest ErinBrown Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Keep our CBs and sign this guy on a free next summer. Agreed. Or sell Zurab and bring him in.
JAL Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I think you'll find that its Sambas agent who is pushing for a move, as he seems pretty peed off with Rovers and considering Sambas agent is an Evertonian this one would tick a lot of boxes for the agent regarding money and location.
The Rover of Finland Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Feyenoord willing to let Roy Makaay to go. A little too old dog even for Sam? Absolutely rubbish if we sell Warnock or Samba now. We have a very good squad and we should be top10 this season. One or two midfielder would be great but they would have to be better than we already have. Sam is the man who may even find these guys. Keep your hands off Villa, Spurs and Everton!
Bobby G Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Cant see us getting a player of Santana's quality on loan. Great nippy winger.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I think you'll find that its Sambas agent who is pushing for a move, as he seems pretty peed off with Rovers and considering Sambas agent is an Evertonian this one would tick a lot of boxes for the agent regarding money and location. How come his agent is 'peed off' with Rovers?
JAL Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 How come his agent is 'peed off'? Dont know but he is.
QOTSA Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I think you'll find that its Sambas agent who is pushing for a move, as he seems pretty peed off with Rovers and considering Sambas agent is an Evertonian this one would tick a lot of boxes for the agent regarding money and location. Samba's agent, as well as he might agitate for a move, is unlikely to do a transfer based on the club he supports. Contrary to what some people think, agents tend to be a bit more professional than that. Nicko's suggestion that Gohouri's arrival is linked to Samba's possible exit is a bit mischievous. As it stands there is nothing expected regarding Samba's sale and no firm interest from either Everton or Spurs. And there's no point in getting worked up over ifs and buts.
Veevs Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Santana.. wth yet another left winger.. even if there is nothing in it, there must be something with us having looked at 6-7 different left sided midfield/wingers..
T4E Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 If Vieri was worthy of a trial then Makaay certainly is.
67splitscreen Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Gohouri A bit of research has found that he is a bit of a party boy, not for the first time his club have had to impose bans. Allegedly his current ban has been imposed as a result of him stating he never wants to play for the club again and his latest partying activities. Hardly the type usually associated with BRFC. Still at least it's not criminal misdemeanors.
