Amo Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Belhadj is a suspect defender but good going forward. I'd take him as Pedersen's replacement. I'm still not happy with Robinson, he's a fairly average goalkeeper. I'll put my neck out and say Brown or Bunn couldn't do any worse.

Roberto Policano Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Maxi Lopez is talking over a £3 million pound move to Lazio, surely he could do a job for Rovers,he's very tall, so he should suit Allardyce's style. The players are there and available, lets just hope we land a good'un if Benni does leave.I hope we don't end up with some carthorse.
Bobby G Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 People should realize we dont have money. Its hard to accept but its a reality. Unless we sell, we cant BUY. So cant see Maxi coming. In fact, I never rated him from his days as a flop at Barcelona.

The club will not have budgeted to get into the semi of the League Cup,so surely there is an excess there. The semi will bring in over a million too.

Not unless we can offload some players. Anyone we could get decent money for however are all pretty vital. Nobody is likely to come in offering us big money for the likes of MGP, Roberts, Diouf, Andrews, Zurab etc,
John Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 The time has finally come: Bayern Munich are ready to cut their loses on Luca Toni and let the Italian leave the club for free in January.
imy9 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 A big Sam signing if ever there was one! A top class player who has scored goals in the top flight and would slot straight into our side, surely worth a punt on a free transfer!!
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 The time has finally come: Bayern Munich are ready to cut their loses on Luca Toni and let the Italian leave the club for free in January. No point as we don't create anything. We should be linked to wingers or attacking midfielders, all we seem to be linked to is strikers...
47er Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 No point as we don't create anything. We should be linked to wingers or attacking midfielders, all we seem to be linked to is strikers... The next step in the Saldado saga will be the usual headline in the LT denying any Rovers interest in him! If that doesn't come then the story is a goer!
Roberto Policano Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 The time has finally come: Bayern Munich are ready to cut their loses on Luca Toni and let the Italian leave the club for free in January. God that would be great,But Valencia and AS Roma are already working on a deal.
dixonbrfc Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Who on earth would buy Robinson for 5 or 6 million? We would be lucky to get back what we paid for him. why is everyone so against robbo, i think he is one of our best players consistently. when we concede goals it very rarely is his fault, it is terrible defending from people like nelsen (who has been awful of late), or because our midfield is very poor at best!

Because he's an average goalkeeper with poor positional sense and aerial authority, and goes down too quickly.
John Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Sam: Blackburn have to sell before they can buy
modes98 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 He also makes good saves and has good distribution. He makes the odd mistake but name me a keeper who doesn't (apart from Shay Given). It just comes with the job. Brown is not good enough and won't ever be. Bunn very well could be.
tony gale's mic Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 I've been a stern critic of Robbo but changing him now would create more problems. Bunn is untested and we have bigger priorities in the team to solve. Still wish we hadn't sold Friedel or at least looked a bit harder for a better keeper.
RoyRover Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Although Soldado would be a great signing, I don't see it happening. We'd never have £10 million to spend on a player in January. And I don't see why it should spell the end for Benni, if anything it should be the end of Roberts. Also, if we don't have any creative players to get him the ball, then he isn't going to do anything. Luca Toni would be a good bit of business, but I would see him prefering to go back to Italy. Belhadj would be a decent signing, just as long as he played on the wing. I'm still hoping that we sign Ibricic.
Bobby G Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Sun says we offered Holden the US midfielder a 4 year deal. Can our American board members comment on this guy?
Fylde Coast Fan Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Robbo is pretty low down our priority list, surely. He's not the best keeper in the Prem but he's not the worst, either, and there are more important things we could be spending money on. Anyway, BBC Gossip & Transfers has this but the story isn't on the Sun's website: Blackburn have offered a four-year deal to United States midfielder Stuart Holden, who plays for Major League football outfit Houston Dynamo. (The Sun)
Bobby G Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Newspapers also say Spurs are in pole position for Belhadj but if they decide to loan him out then us and Everton would also be interested.
modes98 Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Still wish we hadn't sold Friedel or at least looked a bit harder for a better keeper. Brad isn't getting any younger. The questions about his ability are getting more frequent. Selling him was the best move we could have made and it was also a good move for him and securing his youth centre. Robbo has plenty of England caps which say he is a very accomplished goal keeper. What is the mistake people remember in his england career? The missed kick which can happen to any keeper and imo is more the defenders fault for pssing it back on target. I think he gets beaten from distance a bit easily for such a big guy but some of his reaction saves are right up there with the best. All his career he has tried to work on his ability to take crosses and no doubt he is better but you just accept it as a weakness and every player has them. Back to targets: Creative CM, Winger to play the other side to Hoilett and if a CF leaves then another one in.
tcj_jones Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 More and more this season I've thought just how badly we miss Tugay. A CM trio of Grella, N'Zonzi and Dunn is easily good enough for a mid-table / lower top half side. However, when Dunn is out, we badly lack creativity. If we just had Tugay to fill in for those 10 - 15 games a season we might be without Dunn then he wouldn't be missed nearly as bad. I'd be tempted to bring in Wilshere on loan until the end of the season. He's be able to play either out wide or behind the main striker and wouldn't cost us much at all. Otherwise, our main priority has to be wide men. I don't want to have to pay to watch Pedersen, Diouf, Roberts or Andrews ever again.

That's like saying Jason Roberts is an accomplished striker, but every player has a weakness and putting the ball in the net is his. You just accept it.

That is unacceptable at this level, and costs us goals. For a team who struggles to score, every goal conceded is an extra mountain to climb. Replacing Robinson IMO should be a priority.

Agreed, even if we somehow managed to get luca toni in, without a creative player, i doubt he's going to make much of an impact. In fact, most likely outcome would be we playing long balls for the whole match and hoping for a lucky break. Come to think of it, that's what we're already doing
martmitch Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 to my mind we should be looking for a midfielder with some real creativity in the jan window, a poor mans benayoun if you will
