JAL Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Apologies if this has already been posted but I can't believe we are going to bring in ANOTHER player who won't be ready to play for weeks/months... BLACKBURN Rovers are set to add Algerian midfielder Amine Linganzi to their ranks before the close of the transfer window – but won’t expect him to make any immediate impact. Dont see a problem here jisty. Seems sensible to allow the lad a period of transition to help settle him into what is a completely new country and environment. Think we might see him feature though here and there before the seasons out.

Making a signing for the future is o.k in my book. N'Zonzi was one for the future and he's an ever present.
Muddboy Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Jamie O'Hara's just been interviewed on Talk Sport and he said he is returning to Spurs on the 15th. He doesn't expect the Premier League to allow him to stay at Fratton Park any longer and he says he's ready to consider other options. He said he doesn't want to go back to Spurs and sit on the bench, he wants to build on the form he has shown after playing week-in-week-out and is ready to settle down at another club. It was basically a 'come and get me' plea. What are we waiting for? I think he could give us something special and is definitely an investment worth making – he's only 23.
den Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Corrected my name for you. And I think Beattie is (as I said) a Roberts like-for-like in terms of playing. Beattie is nothing like Roberts in terms of playing "style" Mellison. Beattie is a big target man who is a penalty box player. Likes the ball in the air. Roberts liked the ball on the floor and was able to turn and run at defenders. Notice the use of the past tense there. If "style" is the right description for either of them.
unluckymorton Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Signing Beattie would make sense for when this 'home grown' rule comes into place. The only problem is that if we do sign him then it's about 8 years too late. I don't see how we can improve our strikeforce with an aging injury prone striker. Beattie has had his problems but I'd rather have him playing up front than Boberts. Being a local lad and actually wanting Rovers to win could make all the difference. There's every chance he'll go that extra mile. In my opinion thats just what we need fron our strikers.

Read back a couple of pages: O'Hara has already played for two clubs this season (Spurs & Pompey) and is therefore eligible to sign for another club.

Being a local lad and actually wanting Rovers to win could make all the difference. There's every chance he'll go that extra mile. In my opinion thats just what we need fron our strikers. Like I said before, if we signed James we would really play hoofball. That's what his game is all about.
JAL Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Corrected my name for you. And I think Beattie is (as I said) a Roberts like-for-like in terms of playing. He'll just work a bit harder for the club he supports. He won't be a world beater, but he'll be decent. he'll get us more goals from up front than we currently have from any individual striker (how ironic that it's Roberts!) Apologies mellison24. Beattie is nearly 32, earning 30-40k a week, for me this signing runs along similar lines of the Robbie Fowler signing. Scores on average 7 goals a season. No thanks.
mellison24 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Beattie is nothing like Roberts in terms of playing "style" Mellison. Beattie is a big target man who is a penalty box player. Likes the ball in the air. Roberts liked the ball on the floor and was able to turn and run at defenders. Notice the use of the past tense there. If "style" is the right description for either of them. I promise this aint a dig. But isn't 'how we tried to play Roberts' the way Beattie will be played? Wouldn't that be BETTER? More effective? I'd still sooner play Beattie over Roberts ANYWAY tbh.
Muddboy Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Read back a couple of pages: O'Hara has already played for two clubs this season (Spurs & Pompey) and is therefore eligible to sign for another club. Yes, that's true. But he reckons he spoken to the Premier League and he expects them to let him sign for someone else due to circumstances beyond his control. It's not his fault Pompey have screwed things up and he expects to be given special dispensation. If I was Rovers, I'd be pushing this angle hard to try and get to the front of the queue.
RovertheHill Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 If "style" is the right description for either of them. I looked up style in the thesaurus. Chic, dash, elegance, flair, grace, panache were some of the synonyms. The only one that really fitted was "method"
unluckymorton Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Like I said before, if we signed James we would really play hoofball. That's what his game is all about. He can do what Boberts does and a little bit more. When he played for S'oton, Everton, Sheff Utd and now at Stoke it wasn't 'hoofball'. People on this messageboard are obsessed with hoofball. Every team plays long ball from time to time, but with Sam as our manager it is noticed more because thats what people expect. We need to play to our strengths and play a way that is most effective on the day. I'd love to see us play down the wings as much as anybody else, and I don't beleive Sam is using our players to their full potential but if we gring out results (as we so nearly did against Sunderland) I'm happy. We need to freshen up out strikeforce and we can't go out and buy a Darren Bent so we've got to deal to our means.
Amo Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Again, I don't think Beattie would be a bad signing. He's a better target man than Roberts, so it's a step in the right direction.

Seems sensible to allow the lad a period of transition to help settle him into what is a completely new country and environment. Think we might see him feature though here and there before the seasons out. Perhaps it's just a way to avoid putting any pressure on the lad, but surely we need a midfielder now not next season?
JAL Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Like I said before, if we signed James we would really play hoofball. That's what his game is all about. Exactly den, signing Beattie will be like endorsing more hoofball from captain caveman.
unluckymorton Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Perhaps it's just a way to avoid putting any pressure on the lad, but surely we need a midfielder now not next season? I agree but we can't turn down a chance to add strength to the squad. I'm sure Sam and his staff are concentrating on the 'major' signings but if a decent player comes available for little money for the not too distant future then it would be foolish to turn it down. Exactly den, signing Beattie will be like endorsing more hoofball from captain caveman. They are 2 similar players but Boberts isn't going to improve and there's every chance Beattie could perform better.
AJW Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 beckford to newcastle carroll to stoke beattie to rovers roberts to wigan scotland to bolton hows about that nicko?
JAL Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 They are 2 similar players but Boberts isn't going to improve and there's every chance Beattie could perform better. DISAGREE ! Wishful thinking and damaging to Blackburn Rovers future, signing Beattie.

den Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I promise this aint a dig. But isn't 'how we tried to play Roberts' the way Beattie will be played? You think Beattie likes the ball to feet, where he can turn and run at defenders? No way Jose. He's a big, strong target man with little skill. A kind of poor man's Kevin Davis.
