Hughesy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Id get shut of the oldies/ deadwood as many have said = Roberts, Grella, Salgado, Andrews etc Id then raise funds by selling Hoilett (only if he WONT sign a new deal) and NZonzi
LeChuck Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Id get shut of the oldies/ deadwood as many have said = Roberts, Grella, Salgado, Andrews etc You always make selling players sound so easy. Allardyce tried his hardest to get rid of Roberts, even freezing him out of the first team at one point. Nobody wanted him. Who is going to pick up Grella on the wages we are paying him with his injury record? He'll probably retire after his contract is up with us. Andrews is a Championship player on Premier League wages. It'll be hard to find a permanent buyer. The only hope of shifting Salgado is something like the China rumour going round. i.e. someone willing to pay for his name rather than his footballing ability, because he's past it. Our problem is, and has been for many years, paying far too much in wages to average players.
Hughesy Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Make them available for FREE and they will go.....thats been our problem, asking for a £1-2m fee for over-paid players. Watch and see if they make them available for free.

Watch and see if they make them available for free. The fee isn't the problem, it's the wages. If a club isn't willing to match the wages we are paying then why would they leave and take less money? I bet anyone could have taken Grella on a free over the last couple of years - why would they pay £30-£40k a week for someone who can't make it onto the pitch? Who wants to pay £30k a week to a striker that can't score?

savage90 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 When you have to 'Sacrifice in order to survive'.. you know you're going down and your owners are sh#t.
mjwood00 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 City paid that amount for De Jong as Madrid (and others) were waiting for a clause in his contract to be activated where he could go for £2.5m and they wanted to get in there first. We don't have the luxury of gazumping.

Who wants to pay £30k a week to a striker that can't score? Gala wanted Grella, we asked for a fee. We also asked for a few for KA last season, hopefully now we have said they can go on frees, Sally will go to China, KA to Wigan and Roberts to the championship
Parsonblue Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 The only people worth sacrificing are Desai, the Brothers Grimm and Kean. Until these people have gone the club will continue to find its reputation in the gutter and be a national laughing stock. Hoilett, Samba, Robinson, Nzonzi, Olsson etc are all going to have to be sacrificed either in January or the summer simply to keep the club afloat.
LeChuck Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 and Roberts to the championship You keep ignoring my point about wages though. Who in the Championship can afford to match the £30k (rough figure) that we'll be paying Roberts? Nobody. So why would Roberts go and take significantly less money elsewhere? We'll be stuck with him until the end of the season, unless someone like Wigan or QPR get desperate.

Sorry missed that bit off the reply. Roberts is out of contract in summer, then he might get say a 2 year contract offer. If he is prepared to drop down a division now to help a teams promotion push....Boro or Cardiff maybe, then surely they would offer him favourable terms which might include a longer contract? Im convinced championship clubs could offer him suitable terms.
oreilly Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 its a sad state of affairs that we are admitting now that we cannot maintain a premier league squad because we are so broke. We are talking about the things that we should taking for granted here. being able to maintain a squad of 25 professional players should be par for the course for any established premier league club, what the hell is going on??
john.leigh Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 just re-read this thread - not many had been suggesting we should sacrifice Formica. I'm not sure if that a compliment to Gato....he's not been touted as one who will bring in a good transfer fee or save us fron the drop, more that he's just sort of nice and on 'cheap' wages.
