Sponsors getting involved. Good but they're local. Think bigger.

...Do we have any sponsors bigger than Umbro?

This is just thinking out loud at the minute but something that could be interesting to some. Does anyone know the ins and outs of rumours that Venkys used a local kit supplier for the Roverstar tournament?

If this is true, is this a breach of the Umbro kit deal? According to the Hunt email, Umbro sponsor the club to the tune of £800k per season. Losing that money for breach of contract would be a massive blow to Venkys, both financially and with regards to their reputation as business people. Can you imagine how hard it would be for a club in its current turmoil to secure a kit deal when they have a track record of breaching a similar contract?

Here's another thought; As we're up #### creek financially after relegation, would it matter to the club from a fans' point of view if we were to lose the Umbro deal? Would fans be happy to see this happen if it meant a major blow to those running the club?

IF MG.Road has credibility as a member of the Venkys payroll, and IF there is some truth in needing to look at bigger sponsors, we don't have many bigger than Umbro. All respect to Wayne, WEC Group coming out about their concerns is bad publiciy for Venkys, but Umbro pulling out would be colossal in the fight against the Lunes.

Feel free to discuss...

dont believe a word of what MG is saying.

Here are the facts:

Crown Paints offered to renew deal.

Venkys declined because they had heard a figure of £4M per season was what the average premier league club gets.

So instead of a new 3 year deal with clauses should the club be relegated, we're left with nothing.

Good luck if they can get anymore than £500,000 a year now. And that will be pushing it....

The clauses mean if we get relegated any sponsor has the option to walk away, has been that way at Rovers for a long time.

800k isn't at risk now we are down.... Any offer for kit sponsor will be much much less.

Will anyone even bother buying a kit next season?

I bought this season shirt, sponsorless knowing I probs wouldnt buy one for a while. Why would any fan want some second rate shirt sponsor with some crappy payday loan company or something similar on the front next year? Any sponsor who takes over after Umbro would be mad

I know for a fact that Crown Paints had no intention of renewing the deal once it expired

Same info' as me. In reality any shirt sponsorship deal will mean income compared to the Princes Trust ......

That is the truth, it was a sports betting company that offered £1.5m a year and were turned down. By the time the owners came back to them, they had already tied up their sponsoring budget on another deal, and so the club had to settle for trying to make a good pr move instead of secure paying sponsors. Just another example of arrogant mismanagement...

Admiral sports and Venky's Xprs as sponsors next year then?

The Admiral brand is now owned by Genesis Sports (in Manchester). They are also license holders for Puma for a number of clubs. So not as crap as a Spall or Bukta :P Boring, but I move in these circles
