dubdubdub Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 So few people watch the FLS these days I'm not sure it's worth the time getting upset over. I'd like to see the Rover's chances. I guess there's always Rover's Player.
Backroom DE. Posted December 22, 2013 Backroom Posted December 22, 2013 Aye there are other avenues. I wouldn't trust the beeb to give any type of accurate reflection on the game - especially in football league matches which they show a quiet disdain for anyway.
RoyRover Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 That was a great win yesterday. Being able to back up wins has been a real problem for us, so it's good to see that happen. If we can beat Sheffield Wednesday (which will be even sweeter as my Dad supports them), we could potentially be 1 point outside the playoffs. We are definitely in the hunt for one of those places, we just need to keep it going. The size of our squad is well documented and not for good reasons, but that could be a help down the road. I also want to commend Gary Bowyer on the job he's been doing at Rovers. He's faced an almost impossible situation and made the best of it and we are now challenging for the playoffs. Fair play to him.
Neal Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Rovers v Sheffield Wednesday is it, the big one, the make or breaker... Should be a bigger crowd, a chance to throw ourselves in the mix for the playoffs and set up the 2nd half of our season. If Rovers fail to do a professional job against a very poor Wednesday side then I can see a lot of fans getting p*ssed off. It had absolutely no power on it whatsoever and was an easy save. Just watched it again on Rovers player and you're talking rubbish. Keeper has to tip it over. TEKKERS.
AggyBlue Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Just watched it again on Rovers player and you're talking rubbish. Keeper has to tip it over. Does Jason Lowe shake his head afterwards?
Majiball Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Pleased to see us finally put a run together with the win yesterday. Now we need to keep it going and get in those play-off places.
Riverside67 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Great bit of skill from Rochina. We might even have had a mention on telly if that had gone in.
Majiball Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Does Jason Lowe shake his head afterwards? At least he didn't end up doing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-7-5KFru4o
AggyBlue Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 At least he didn't end up doing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-7-5KFru4o I knew what that was going to be before I watched it
Amo Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Wonder if Rovers are putting him in the shop window with that video?
Neal Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Does Jason Lowe shake his head afterwards? No, he's probably thinking "i'm well sh*t, I couldn't even finish from 10 yards"
Majiball Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I knew what that was going to be before I watched it  The second I saw it, I was googling for the link. Over to you now Dunny, Rochina has bettered you, now you need to do it and score.
Bucksrover Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 It was incredible that he should try a difficult skill like that by shooting from outside the penalty area. In a way it kind of sums him up as a footballer. And if anybody doesn't think it is hard to do they should ask David Dunn who made a fool of himself rying the same thing whilst at Birmingham.I don't think anyone would say it isn't a hard skill. My criticism would be that he might have had a better chance scoring if he hadn't been showing off.Had we been 3 up I would have liked it. But we could well have conceded late on. Rochina has great skill, but really needs to work on some end product
Al Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I don't think anyone would say it isn't a hard skill. Rochina has great skill, but really needs to work on some end product Your prejudice is showing. Rochina is the most skilful player we have. He should be nurtured not driven out. Watch him succeed with another club when he leaves and then you will realise what we almost had.
Backroom DE. Posted December 22, 2013 Backroom Posted December 22, 2013 I imagine the reason Lowe was shaking his head was because there was a player out wide Rochina should have passed to rather than try a trick (you can see this on the video just after the shot). Same old Ruben.
Al Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 No it was probably "Wow I wish I had that sort of ability"
Majiball Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Probably shaking his head in disbelieve going I still can't believe I play with this lot.
RussP Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Enjoyed it yesterday, especially as I was convinced it was going to get called off 1 hour before kick off. Was raining very heavily indeed, ref looked pretty concerned & puddles were showing during the warm up. That said, the pitch held up very well I thought. My thoughts on the players: Eastwood - a couple of top saves. His shot stopping, decision making & kicking are better than Kean's but worried about his general command of the box & ability with crosses. Two terrible flaps, one that nearly gave away a goal. Henley - I'm not sure he's let Hoilett out of his back pocket yet as he's been weighed down by it ever since. Too slow to close down their tricky left winger. As a full back, he needs to get tighter quicker. Will get better with game time but a fair way off what he was before his injury. Dann - Looked solid & he's leading the back line very well. Coped well with their aerial threat. Hanley - Benefits from Dann's experience when he is sometime a little maverick. Strong, good in the air & together, him & Dann look very good. Spurr - I've been a little critical of him in that he's a bit slow in his decision making. However, yesterday he was excellent and, for me, his best game in a Rovers shirt. Closed his man well, Henley take note. Almost scored with a terrific Rochina-type run in the second half. Lowe - Some people will never get him but we'll be a far worse team without him. I thought he was excellent again, broke up the play well & allowed Cairney to do his thing further forward. Tackle on him in second half should have led to a red for the Yeovil lad. Cairney - Nothing new here but is a different player in the centre. Can't fault his touch or creativity. Always available & makes everything look so easy. Will feel much better when he's permanent. Taylor - Work rate, as usual, was superb. His movement is causing teams lots of trouble with him drifting into the middle in the gap between defence & midfield. Staking his place for a permanent place. Dunn - Contrary to others, I was a little disappointed. Very wasteful in a game that should have suited Dunny. Still showed glimpses of magic & was instrumental in the goal so cannot be too critical. Was still good, just not the usual brilliance &, if he'd have had his shooting boots on, we'd have been out of side by half time. Marshall - did a job but a little off what he's been in the last couple of games. Constantly trying to get to the byline & worked hard supporting Spurr in the defensive duties. Doing the right things but not everything came off. Some lovely little touches though. Rhodes - I've been impressed with his general all round play recently & yesterday was no different. Had another great game and, although he should have scored one in the first half, he made amends with a typical Rhodes-esque finish, passing it into the top corner. Subs: Rochina - Started slowly but got better & better. As his fitness returns, he could tear this division apart. 3 or 4 good efforts on goal and, unlike Rochina of old, made the right choice more often than not setting up 2 or 3 chances for others. More game time needed, his return is a welcome boost. Williamson - Replaced Taylor to shore up central midfield. Only player on our books who can tackle himself & end up in a heap on the floor. Helped the backline but I can't wait for the return of Corry Evans so he slips down the pecking order. Gestede - Not long to make an impression. Had one chance that was blocked & won a couple of headers. Gives us another option. GB seems to have it right & has the backing of the players & fans. Lovely touch before & after the game with the scarves & footballs. The 1,100 travelling faithful certainly appreciated that. On a sour note, it was sad to see someone collapse & bang their head on the terracing. No idea who it was but the sound of ambulance sirens, many paramedics & the person being stretchered off doesn't bode well. Hope he/she is ok.
G Somerset Rover Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Good review Russ - pretty much how I saw things. I too thought that Henley struggled yesterday, particularly in the second half. Their winger Joel Grant gave him a torrid time and it nearly led to a goal on several ccasions for them. Personally I thought that Marshall had a very good game. He worked very hard and beat his man on numerous occasions. Cairney was again quality in possession, although it would be nice to see him being a little more ambitious with some of his passes as he's certainly got the ability. Rhodes put in a decent stint yesterday too and even won some good headers which were flicked on for our wingers or Dunny. All in all a very welcome 3 points but we must follow it up with 6 more in our next 2 games now.
thenodrog Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 The Beeb love minnows. Exception to the rule is when we are the minnows.
Leonard Venkhater Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Exception to the rule is when we are the minnows. Took the words out of my mouth! Good review from Russ. Enjoyed the analysis of players' performance.

thenodrog Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I imagine the reason Lowe was shaking his head was because there was a player out wide Rochina should have passed to rather than try a trick (you can see this on the video just after the shot). Same old Ruben. Lowe was running on to it and Rochina should really have put it into Jasons stride or better still Taylor's. However I think Rochina did actually make a better effort at goal than Jason would have done.... and I'm one who rates Lowe's contributions to the team efforts. Not mentioned yet for some reason but there was some lovely play and interchanges between Cairney, Marshall and Rochina that led up to Rochina's shot. Funny how some people moan when we play 'hoofball' and some people moan when they see play of that quality.
Stuart Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Exception to the rule is when we are the minnows. We aren't really minnows though. Well we weren't. We had plenty of a great teams at a club playing well above it's station. Jealousy is all it was.We don't get any grief these days.
