Thunder thighs Mike Harrison and Duggie, early 1960s

From another site and possibly AI generated but a good image nonetheless

Note the spectators wearing ties

May be an image of football and American football

I remember seeing that photo years before AI Jim. I think it’s from a game against Bury in late 1966. Harrison was built like a light heavyweight but he wasn’t a fan of the rough stuff. He was seriously rapid in a straight line and had a shot like a rocket.  Possibly the best penalty taker we’ve had. He could side foot the ball harder than I could blast it. Some power in those thighs.  If it is that game we won 2-0 - Connelly and Harrison with a pen the scorers.
I still think that kit is my favourite. The first one I ever had.

It looks a bit odd to me, as if the players have been superimposed on the background, typical of AI, and I don't think it was 1966 as I'm sure the V-neck shirts had long been replaced by round neck shirts by then.

Liked Mike Harrison. Saw him leaving the bookshop at Sudell Cross and getting into his VW Beetle circa 1967. Natty dresser and trendy car at the time.

Wasn’t Mike Harrison with some Brazilian girl at the time?

Guessing ties in 1960s were worn both casual & formal. V neck short sleeve shirt reminds me of when my mum used one I had as a duster. Great photo with everyone looking at Mike & Duggie.

You both right and wrong Jim. It is a real photograph from “ Getty Images “. It’s from the game against Stoke City on the 21st of September 1963. We won the game 1-0 with an Andy McEvoy goal. I went to this game, it was shortly after the 7-2 mauling of Spurs, and I was expecting a repeat so I was really disappointed with the 1-0. The only other thing I remember was Stanley Mathews was down to play in the programme but didn’t appear. So I never got to see the great man play.

I’d persuaded some of my school team mates to come along on the strength of the 7-2 thrashing of Spurs and the thought of seeing Stanley Mathews. We’d played that morning so we’d be there in our school uniforms, probably minus school ties though. Young people today don’t realise that the modern fashion for casual and sporting clothes hadn’t been invented at that time. Nobody there would be wearing a replica shirt. Same goes for club branded clothing. It hadn’t been thought of.

I was one of the first lads in Rochdale to get a pair of training shoes in about 1966. . They were a blue “ Adidas “ pair. One summer night we’d been training and after we’d got changed I kept the trainers on. We decided to go to the nearest pub for a shandy. When I walked in the pub everybody looked at me like I had two heads. That’s how things were then !

Another FA Cup game here from 1950’s, this time away at Cardiff with Rovers taking 4000 fans. I was surprised to read 5 aeroplanes carrying 200 supporters each taking fans too! You don’t associate away travel with planes back in the day, or I don’t.

Draw away from home, we won 2-1 back at Ewood:

In the 74/75 promotion, I think a fan aircraft went to 1 or 2 games ..Brighton springs to mind , not sure about Plymouth away cos it was night match !

They went from Squires Gate !
