I've always understood that you're not supposed to end a half whilst a team is actively engaged in an attack. Noticed how you never see a fulltime whistle blown when somebody is about to strike the ball?

I don't know if it's a written rule or an unwritten one, but when I was a kid I was told it was a rule.

Wasn't there a world cup match that a British ref blew-up for half time as one team scored from a corner ? It was a while ago.

The AI answer attached. The part about doing so generally causing controversy seems to be backed up by the reactions to those two decisions. Sounds like Clive mostly did it because he was naffed off at the procrastination by the corner taker. Btw below this it does say a penalty kick is an exception that must always be taken.

It seemed the Palace manage was seeking to cup tie any player that is attracting interest - keen to keep his best players until the end of the season (when he is also expecting to leave).
