Not for me at that price. If the budget is limited, as we expect, then we have bigger priorities elsewhere.

Depends if we’re selling Carter or Hyam

I thought Sandersons end of season Β interview was quite gushing about his time here, and the fact he said a couple of times that β€˜who knows I might be back one day’.Β
Β

That explains it if we are interested in doing a deal and he wants to come. Probably a good investment at Β£1mΒ

Unless we have current CBs leaving then spending a massive chunk of our budget on Sanderson would be madness.

Carter and Hyam, Batth will possible re-sign and Wharton isn;t going to fit for start of pre seasonΒ

I think it would needΒ  2 of Hyam, Carter & Batth not to be here next season (which may happen) for it to make sense to sign Sanderson

We have Wharton and apparently another new signing for the left footed centre back position (according to Gestede *), and Litherland & Atcheson waiting in the wings (again if we are to take Gestede at face value that academy players will be competing for squad positions*), so don't need an additional 4 centre backs (Hyam, Carter, Batth & Sanderson)

* Yes I am aware of the fatal flaw in my reasoning

Edit - When I say don't need an additional 4 centre backs, I am referencing Gestedes words

I'd say so still need some that can score goalsΒ  on the regular

Currently we have:

Hyam - is it 1 year left on his contract?

Carter - 1 or 2 years left and made of glass

Batth - out of contract

Wharton - no idea if he’ll come back the same player.Β

So there might be plenty of CB vacancies on a month or two if the likes of Hyam and Carter are sold and Batth goes elsewhere.

If the idea is to get β€˜assets’ into the club then Sanderson fits the bill. If they can get him for Β£1m and flog Hyam for Β£1m then it fits the β€˜project’ as DS has bigger potential re-sale value.Β
Β

He’ll also be on less wage than Hyam.Β

Sanderson will definately be on a lower wage than Hyam, so agree there, but I do not believe that he would have a resale value of more than the Β£1M fee that is rumoured.Β  If we were to sign him for half of that, I am still not sure if there is any profit to be made in the signing and resale of Sanderson.

He is decent back up, but nothing more, technically limited and rash decision making, almost certain to be surpassed by Atcheson & Litherland within a year or 2 also.Β  I would take him for less than Β£500K (assuming others leave), but for any more, I think Birmingham would have had our pants down

It’s just opinions really. DS could go on to be a top Championship defender. If the club agree they’ll sign him on that basis.Β

Sheffield United had a scout watching Carter recently, but know if they have any intention of bidding for him.Β

Doesn’t surprise me. He’s got a lot of potential. Newcastle were heavily linked a couple of seasons back.Β

I think the Newcastle links turned out to be someone at the Daily MailΒ getting him mixed up with Carter-Vickers.Β  Who they were linked with before he moved to Celtic

https://onefootball.com/en/news/newcastle-and-celtic-eye-move-for-cameron-carter-vickers-33682174

But whether those rumours are true or not, yes he has a lot of potential and could do a job for a more ambitious side

Possibly in a minority but I thought Sanderson was good when he was on the pitch. I was hoping we would make his loan permanent but with Birmingham likely chucking big money about this summer, though we might get a cut price deal, Β£500k or so.Β

Β£1m is a lot for the poor budget we will have, so probably not worth it.

Yeah, they lad who was watching him, is a former Sheffield United centre half and does rate him.

He knew he was recently back from injury since not fully up to speed.Β

And we just re-signed Pratt.

despite my joking about Pratt being our left centre back signing for next season, I expect him to be loaned out.Β  Although he may be kept around for pre season games util Wharton returns or someone is signed

Agreed, just think we could pick up a CB on a free agent basis . Batth and Fadz proved there are plenty out there if you know where to look
