Just a thought

Is Val persisting on Henriksson up front so that he can get the required minutes to convert out of an ESC slot by the end of the season? (under instruction of the hierarchy)

Giving us wiggle room for some cheap Belgian dross in the summer

Unless we drop down to League one and then I think we're restricted on ESC slots regardless of academy products?

I might be talking waffle, but I bet we haven't considered that.

Rovers's bid 1m plus add ons according to the report

If they had done there homework like they had claimed, they would have known this.

Sounds like a bid for bids sake so it looks like we're trying to do something.

I think we lose a slot (from 4 down to 3), don't quote me on it

Tóth Kargbo Axel Baradji are the current 4

Tóth might have possibly converted by now

AK feels like a failed experiment and is out of contract in the summer I believe

That's a fair assessment.

Considering our recent transfer policy, we're likely to need 11 ESC slots.

I think Kargbo will be out of contract next summer rather than this summer, sadly.

I thought he signed an 18 month deal when he came

Which I found worryingly short, considering they'd been tracking him for almost a season previous and were gutted they couldn't sign him in the summer

But then again, should I really be surprised that we operate worryingly 😂

Our transfers business is laughable, so I do see why you’d say that.

You wouldn’t walk into a shop and offer £1 for something that cost £5, would you? If that’s what Barnsley value him at, then we have to pay that if we want him.

Probably true to be honest

They should have been able to convert Toth this window, even Kargbo, due to his injures has now played the requirement to convert (played in more than 50% of available games for more than 25% of available minutes... please fact check me Wilsden)

Which leaves Baradji, who seems to be getting enough games & minutes to convert in the summer, and Henriksson who has been given a lot of game time recently

We may have the full quota of 4 ESC slots to use on more Rudy randoms come summer

We only get 2 slots if we end up relegated though

Aren't we likely to lose 1 or 2 ESC slots in the summer though due to not giving enough minutes to English trained players? We can't be far from that point. We were very British in composition a couple of years ago, but now we are regularly playing a couple of Japanese lads, an Icelander, a Hungarian, an Aussie, all the Rudy randoms.

Hes on a long contract, West Brom hold a big sell on, hes only really proven anything for half a season and hes young so likely to go up in value from their perspective. Plus its mid season.

If they do want a massive fee, its presumably that they dont want to sell now which is totally fair enough.

I seem to remember that not being an issue until the following summer (by which time I cannot see beyond Rovers being a League 1 club and therefore being limited to 2 ESC slots anyway), as it was an average over multiple years, and whilst this years English qualifying minutes will be low, it will be propped up by previous years

* I have edited the post you replied to, I had the Kargbo details incorrect

Seems a lot for a player who was out of contract. But WBA did offer him a new deal, so they'd have been due compo. Presumably they agreed to waive most of it for a cash-poor Barnsley in exchange for the very high sell on.

Was offered a new contract but turned it down, instead of a compensation fee, the 2 clubs agreed a nominal fee and high sell on

Edit - I wrote my reply after reading the first line of yours.. yes, that is exactly the case

Sounds like a forward thinking club.

yep, instead of West Brom trying to squeeze an extra £50K or so out of a League 1 club, they did a deal with the future in mind

Wonder what the deal was for Harry Leonard to Peterborough by comparison?

20% I think, and £750k.
