Anti-Dingle-Brigade
If you're going to whoosh me you have to be sure yourself! I wasn't sure if Theno was being fantastically witty or it was an accident. Probably the latter.

nicko
Mark Hughes on the Roque deal...interesting. "The situation was that Blackburn were not prepared to sell their player. Their stance was that they did not have anybody to come in, they had apparently been trying to replace him but could not so there was no deal to be done. "If we had offered more money to a certain level it would have been done, which would have negated their argument to a certain extent, but we were not going to do that." Sounds about right. BuckyRover
Allardyce should swing for that. Trying to sell our best players!
philipl
nicko, just to add my appreciation "If we had offered more money to a certain level it would have been done, which would have negated their argument to a certain extent, but we were not going to do that." ...is that code for cash plus a player? If we had taken cash it would have negated the argument about replacements full stop.

I think he means Rovers would have taken the bid if it had been even more cash... But as Man City stopped bidding on the Friday then we will never know. Maybe the Arab ruler at the Stoke City game realised he had already paid over the top for ordinary players like Bridge and Bellamy never mind De Jong. After the Bridge, Bellamy and De Jong jamborees it is strange that they stopped bidding for Roque. Especially when you read this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/fe...ghes-santa-cruz It sounds as if Hughes sees Santa Cruz (or equivalent) as a vital missing link! Maybe Sam and JW won the poker game?

"If we had offered more money to a certain level it would have been done, which would have negated their argument to a certain extent, but we were not going to do that." Sounds about right. Sounds like Mark Hughes, having used the media for the past 6 weeks to try and unsettle the player and force the deal through, is now using the media to chuck a few sour grapes around in a desperate attempt to try and save face. Let's not forget there was upwards of #150 million sloshing around to get Kaka - there's no way that a mere couple of million scuppered the RSC deal for them - if everyone in the Man City hierarchy had really wanted the player. Correct Tris ' Not forgetting that we already had a 20 million offer on the table from Spuds' We do know the answer Nicko - yes they would have sold backed up by Sam saying to Roque to now play his part in keeping Rovers up and playing his way into a move in the Summer. The city spindoctors again fool nobody but themselves and their deluded fans

BuckyRover
No doubt he'd prefer to swing for you. I presume he would prefer to punch a racist than somebody playing devils advocate on a messageboard. He has worked with many muslims in his time (Diouf?) and has taken them at face value. Can you say the same? Maybe you aren't so alike after all
