  1. How smart do you have to be to know getting in from the sides is a winner ? It’s a defenders nightmare getting turned around and facing your own goal. Who knows where the guy you’re supposed to be marking has gone because you can’t watch him and the ball at the same time. I knew that when I was 12.
  2. Part of his problem was he was still playing like a midfield player when he was playing at centre half. He was too easily drawn to the ball when he needed to stay with whoever he was supposed to be marking. Even Fergie couldn’t rid him of that bad habit.
  3. That doesn’t read well. More disagreements in the camp.
  4. He’ll be better for the circumstances we’ll probably find out selves in next season - potless.
  5. He was dead right about the “ pull backs “ but you need somebody on the end of them. Preferably not Gally.
  6. Possibly Ramsdale isn’t happy sitting on the bench at Arsenal and Jason Steele is ?
  7. On the BBC football “ gossip “ site it’s been reported that Arsenal are looking to sign Jason Steele from Brighton !
  8. Yeah, he was fairly average in his old role although he always gave 100%. Since taking over from BBD he’s turned into a goal machine.
  9. My mum had a saying - “ If the cap fits, wear it “. Here’s another one - “ What can’t speak, can’t lie “. Rightly or wrongly, for what ever reason, we were ending for the drop.
  10. Fergie - journeyman footballer - possibly the best manager ever. Bobby Charlton - world class footballer - a flop as a manager. I detected enough of a change in the mentality of the team for us get hard won wins away at Leeds and Leicester.
  11. If Ipswich come in for Gally this summer I’ll be lumping on them to be relegated.
  12. That’s the difference between having a team of elite international footballers and a team of lower level journeymen. You can only wee with the willy you’ve got. Let’s see how it goes if Eustace can bring in some players with the right mentality. It’s 2024 now. Tugay, Bentley, Samba, Freidel etc don’t play for us anymore.
  13. There’s a little “ Clark’s Originals “ shop on King Street in Manchester. They sell a big range of the desert boots. I got a pair of “ Clark’s “ Wallabees in there a few weeks ago. Nice shoes but they need a bit of breaking in. The sales assistant was a Blackburn girl funnily enough although she lives in Manchester now. I recognised her accent right away.
  14. I lost my trusty “ Paul And Shark “ baseball cap the other day. I’d had it years, I bought it out in Spain in a special sale at El Cortes Inglises ( a sort of Spanish Kendall Milnes ) for about £30. I was looking on the internet for a replacement and the latest version is £100 ! If you think that’s a bit pricey you can have a nice plain one from “ Loro Piana “ ( never heard of them ) for a mere £355 ! If you want the embroidered version - “ That will be £440 sir “. edit - I’ve just been on their site, it’s a hoot. Nice polo shirt - £800 etc . And I thought “ Paul And Shark “ was expensive.
  15. As somebody else said - “ Why is it we never have an administrative problem selling players, only when we are trying to sign them “.
  16. I like Big Sam as a manager but heading all those footballs back in the day is catching up with him.
  17. Ronnie Clayton , who knew Duncan Edwards well enough to have been his best man when Edwards was going to be married, told me - “ This lad is going to be the next Duncan Edwards “.
  18. That’s why they’re playing at that level. Having said that the job of the manager is to get the best out of the hand he’s been given, not the hand he’d like.
  19. Anybody else get the feeling some people on here were hoping we’d get relegated so they could just bash Eustace a bit harder ? Sammi’s goals must have really pissed them off.
  20. It’s money in the bank, not that Rovers will ever see any of it.
  21. Football is full of lower league players who were going to be “ the next big thing “. I remember going to watch Rovers “ A “ team versus Rochdale reserves at Spotland years ago. A pal of mine was playing for on the right wing for Rochdale reserves, a lad called Paul Crossley, he later played for Preston and Tranmere. He was up against a lad called Billy Wilson and Paul ran him ragged. He said to me after “ You’re a better left back than that kid I was up against today Tyrone. “ He was really impressed with our No 8 , a player called Roy Wilford. I agreed with him about Wilford, it was like watching a young David Dunn. He was everywhere on the pitch. 12 months later Billy Wilson is our first team left back and went on to be a regular for about 10 seasons. Roy Wilford was released to have a decent career in non- league football. The moral of the story - players develop at different rates as teenagers.
  22. If we are going into next season with a handful of magic beans as our war chest we could do a lot worse than Eustace.
