I bet you Marcus Bent gets the winner for them:-(

Jay McEverly, co-commentator on Radio Lancs for tonight is making good sense; talks a good game.

All we need is a Rovers goal. Cummmm ONNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lousy draw. But why all the pessimism? We don't need a draw to bring them back to Ewood. Sparky's stars will win. AND win the league match too. After all we did it to Boro.

[Archived] If You Could Change One Result In Rovers History
bazza replied to Ricky's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
As soon as I read the question I knew my answer; the 1960 cup final. But having read Al, Fife Rover and others, the result I would most like to change is the SEMI-FINAL 1960 to a 2-1 win for Sheff Wed. Then Rovers would have avoided all the problems that that final brought and the old timers and their offspring would still be filling Ewood to the rafters. :-) -

Well my old Mac on a dial-up system cannot download but I can imagine. Toogs is already another icon of a player to wear the Rovers shirt and thrill the crowd with his brilliance; following in the footsteps of many. Can't find my list at present but it includes Bryan Douglas, Duncan Mackenzie, Tony Field, Roy Wegerle, Alan Shearer and Damian Duff. I'm so glad my dad brought me up to follow the Rovers :-) -
If Todd is still not in favour and Bert is fit, hows about playing Ooijer and Henchoz as centre backs and try Zurab in midfield?

What a co-incidence! At half time on Thursday night I was saying to my mate that we should be making the most of Rovers at the moment both in UEFA Cup and the Prem League because there will come a day when all we have of this is memories. I reckon that when (not if) Sparky and his team leave us for greener, richer pastures, and we finally get relegated, that will be it; no bouncing back, never again a promotion, down in the doldrums forever [unless there is a blue and white halves-loving Russian billionaire ..........no, I'm dreaming again]. That WILL be that. We may finish up like Blackpool or Burnley or PNE who have never been in the top flight for 45 years (1961 when Finney retired) So make the most of today you Rovers fans and get down to Ewood NOW. If you don't, you'll regret it. Also I'd like to comment on how clean the game was on Thursday v Basel; no elbows; no private vendettas; no diving, cheating, going in over the top. It was a good clean game with good excellent officials, played in the right spirit and a pleasure for the neutral to watch. Compare this with the debacle of Barca v Chelski. -
Who remembers at the Reebok stadium when Toogs, who wasn't playing that day, came walking from the dugouts towards away supporters' end, climbed over the wall and walked up among us, being cheered and saluted all the way? He was obviously making his way towards family or friends but he milked the adulation we eagerly gave.

Before I read any of this thread, here are my observations of the match:- Up until Tugay's wonder goal, I thought Rovers were under the cosh a bit. We were clearly not the best side in the first half. They could have (and should have) been 2-1 up [bentley's awful miss]. But Rovers upped the tempo in the second half and looked much better. Even so, I was content to settle for a 0-0 draw and grab a point. Once we gained the lead there was only one team in it. But they did not deserve to go away with a 3-0 beating. I'd like to see a lot more of Gally and Jeffers. Maybe we will due to injury of others. Zurab and Ooijer played extremely well and Toogs was in his element. Nice looking at the league table.

Den, there was also Jonathan Walters, the youth team lad who left our club in ignominious circumstances and was immediately snapped up by Wanderers. He is now plying his trade in lower leagues.

I think The Trotters play a much better game than the media have them down for. It's a bit like the media calling us bully boys when we were playing fair and square in-your-face football just like Everton. It will be a difficult, yet entertaining, game. Expect the usual after-Euro hangover and Anelka and Stellios to put them 2-0 up at half time. All our second half pressure will only produce one goal, a pen scored by Lucas. Actually, believe it or not, I haven't a clue and expect not to win a sausage on the lottery either. Still go for 1-2

Was that a boxing match? Great all-round performance by Rovers in a difficult game for them. Only Gamst wasn't up to form. Cannot fault the rest. Roberts was cool involved with our 2nd goal. Bentley was superb. We really are looking good. Hughes and Co have been gradually banishing the pessimism from me. -
More than a week ago a work colleague (Bolton fan) came up to me and said,"May I congratulate your wonderful football club for offering tickets at £15 Adults and £5 children for the game against us." I felt quite proud and told him,"Make sure you fill the Darwen End then."

Don't Boo Lucas, either!!!
-
I know that Lucas wants away but until he actually goes in January or end of season he is still a Rovers player; and a very good one at that. If Sparky thinks he's the best for captain then I'll go along with that. After all, Neill is a professional footballer and he'll give 100% every game (as he has already proved). I just hope that the fans don't boo him. There is no excuse for fans who deride a player in the blue and white halves for whatever reason.

1-1 draw

I can understand you adopting Rovers because of Dalglish, but to remain a Rovers fan, especially whilst your hated Souness was in charge, mystifies me. There must be something special about our beloved club to keep you hooked regardless of who the manager is. Take note you Jan bashers. She's still a Rover. She's a convert! So I'll endorse the view of Roversmum and say "Give her a break".

I bet there's no bottled water either, like last time! This is my choice when there's no alcohol. -
Spot on AB. It is the mancs and scousers who keep on about our crowd size. Although I silenced the City fans when I asked where all THEIR support had gone.

First game after the UEFA match usually gives a poor performance. I hope not this time. May be some goals for a change. City will score 2, one from a penalty. Rovers to scrape it 3-2 with our nails bitten right down. -

My sentiments entirely. He really did remind me of Tommy Briggs; in build and stature; big hearted; and slow to get moving but, once on the move, quite fast. Not quite as prolific a goal scorer as Tom, though. Thanks for the memory, Shefki.
