  1. Thanks Matt, I’ve now read that somewhere else.
  2. Anyone know the cause of death? 69 doesn’t seem that old nowadays.
  3. Saw him play in the reserves on the right wing before he made his first team debut. He was referred to as the next Bryan Douglas at the time. RIP Stuart, you were superb. All my heroes are leaving.
  4. Bloody hard watching Granada news tonight. Lucy did brilliantly well.
  5. Roger Federer opening the bowling for England.
  6. ASAP Tyrone, but it should be clear to everyone that these two haven’t worked out and they won’t work out here.
  7. Becomes more obvious by the day. Gallagher and Brereton have to be moved on. There’s nothing for them here. It doesn’t work.
  8. Rothwell hasn’t had the edge taken off, he’s just never really had it. Yes he has ability but hasn’t yet applied it with any consistency and that’s no good to anyone.
  9. He’s the same as any other player tomphil. They have a job to do and a function within the team to fulfill in order to benefit the whole team. If he can’t do that he won’t ever advance himself in the game. That’s what’s happening.
  10. £12m spent on two championship strikers. You really would expect them to make a difference. according to Wiki.... Gallagher 76 appearances 15 goals. Brereton 35 appearances 1 goal. So that’s £12m, 111 appearances 16 goals. you could get two free signings for that and more goals.
  11. We had a fly stay holiday cancelled by jet2 and they gave us the option of getting our money back, which they have to do legally, which we took and got our money back. Can you not do that then book again? we also had flights cancelled by Ryanair which we were going to claim our money back for, but the villa we had booked to go with it pointed out that the airlines must offer you alternative flights. We rebooked with no extra cost.
  12. A guy called Chester was just asked on the chase which city in Scotland Dundonians come from. He said Cardiff ?
  13. I remember Fryatts goal in that Man City game - a typical powerful header, but the thing I remember most was entering the riverside through the centre turnstile to be met with a solid wall of fans. Just to get properly into the stand was a battle. Just try imagining the old Ewood Park with 43,000 people crammed into there. As for Jim, he was as far removed from the modern footballer as could be. He carried the reputation for his heading ability before him. I think it’s fair to say that was probably 90% of his game, he was a cult figure at that time simply for that ability. I would compare his style with that of the black prince at PNE, Alex Dawson who also possessed tremendous heading power with little else to go with it. Very, very effective though.
  14. Can’t see this mentioned anywhere, but Jim Fryatt died on Friday in Las Vegas ( believe it or not). The older fans will remember him for his sideburns, his amazing heading of a ball and the goal he scored against a brilliant Man City side at Ewood in front of the last 40,000 (43,000 actually) gate at Ewood. https://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/news/2020/june/05062020-jim-fryatt-passes-away/
  15. Get the umpire to stand at the other end ? wicket keeper to long stop.
  16. Brilliant. Well done to Debs.
  17. Right, gotcha. Thanks. So Suter didn’t even play in that final versus old etonians - amazing. However the history of those days was basically correct and still fascinating. Love it.
  18. Well just finished watching it and really enjoyed it. I don’t think we’ll ever see anything again based around the emergence of the professional game, certainly not focussing on Darwen and Blackburn. Even though some of the facts might not have been too precise, the overall story was and this was the only time I’ve ever come close to really understanding what those times might have actually been like. some of the posts on this thread have also brought some reality to those days, so thanks to those that helped there. It’s the nearest I’ve been to feeling any kind of reality to our history, even though it was just a TV production. I also took the time to refresh my memories of Lord Kineard, Old Etonians ( who still play in the Arthurian league), the Wanderers and the Engineers. I would recommend anyone who’s interested in the evolution from the amateur game to the professional game, or is simply interested in the early days of football to watch it. why did they never call us Blackburn “ROVERS”? That baffles me.
  19. In the current circumstances the EFL have little option IMO.
  20. Sorry for posting this in the match day thread. It’s self explanatory.
  21. Up to 10000 people are already infected according to the scientists. This is huge.
  22. Three goals concede. Nyambe’s inexperience and lack of positional sense stood out for me, but that’s hardly his fault. Midfield outmanouvered all afternoon. Derby midfield just doing the easy, simple things (Roghwell take note). however, having said that, for me the main reason for this defeat was up front. Gallagher, Brereton are never ever going to be strikers. The ball didn’t stick up front at all, it just bounced back time after time. Any defence would be stretched under those circumstances. Armstrong looked like he had no idea how to play with those two.
  23. Players lost heart 20 minutes ago. Embarrassing
