  1. Can’t believe it. Another part of me dies. That just leaves Duggie and Mike Ferguson. RIP Fred. One of the best we’ve had, only bettered by Shearer in my lifetime.
  2. Jennings gone again. Same shot, same result.
  3. and Bob Willis said his England days were over. Got to say, I have to wonder why.
  4. I don’t ask too much of the owners, just that they put us back to where we were when they bought the club. I would settle for that. Can they do that? Yes they can.
  5. Ambitious managers don’t have “long term plans”. They want and demand it from day one. Whether they get it is another matter. For me, long term plans is just an excuse for the present. In other words long term plans shouldn’t be the plan and I’m aware of any manager who thinks along those lines. Players are asked to look no further than the next game and a manager really should focus the same way. Do that and the future will sort itself out. Ignore the present for the future and you’re in trouble.
  6. Root out to a ball rearing off a length. England will be lucky to get to 100 here. 34/3
  7. To be fair this is a wicket made for the windies quickies.
  8. That would be it renrag. Both Lorimer and Mike Harrison could hit a blag tremendously hard.
  9. Well that’s probably as good as it gets nowadays 47er. ?
  10. Jennings has a lot of work to do on his technique. For a quickie at the moment he’s easy meat. Shame - and he’s by no means the first left handed opener to have this problem - because he does look a classy player at times.
  11. With the inside of his foot. Amazing. Im sure I remember him entering a competition to find the player with the hardest shot in the country, but that’s about all. Anyone else remember that?
  12. It’s a sad day for me. These guys were my heroes. No one can ever take these memories away, no matter how hard some of the most recent imposters have tried.
  13. Massive thighs, a lot of pace and thunderbolt of a shot. RIP Mike. Loved watching you and you were part of that fantastic attacking side of the early sixties.
  14. Maybe BB is going in the opposite direction? Straight swap.
  15. Looks like Jos Buttler is going to have score the majority of the 400+ runs we need on his own now.
  16. I agree Mercer. We had this discussion about intentionally, or planning to use time to build a team when Bowyer was in charge. It didn’t happen and Bowyer isn’t here any more. IMO as a manager you don’t - or shouldn’t - approach things like that. You go into the job, working to be the best you can from day one. You don’t accept losing - ever. The players must never accept losing a game. Finishing fourth from the bottom must never be acceptable. Only being successful should be acceptable. If after all that it does take a number of seasons to get where you want to be, then so be it. Clubs shouldn’t accept mediocrity and neither should the fans.
  17. From the little I’ve seen of Travis, he looks very good. He might, just might have a career ahead of him. I was very impressed. but maybe I should keep quiet and give him a chance.
  18. I wish him well. For me, his “potential” revolves around a perception that he can turn defences with some strong running. I’m not sure he can - and I haven’t seen anything else from him, but I hope this contract stiffens up his self belief. Good luck to him.
  19. Oh please don’t go down the route of saying people don’t want him to play well so that they will be proven right. The opposite view of people saying he DID play well because that proves them right would also be valid wouldn’t it?
  20. That’s absolutely disgusting. Horrible thing.
  21. Then you have to decide who to leave out?
  22. You can only give a player a run of games if he can make a difference. It’s up to him to show more than he has done so far. We’re not the Ben Brereton support group, we have to win games.
  23. and the second thought should be - “up the pace, use the full width of the field and run them ragged”. Certainly don’t drop the pace and play in front of them. That’s the worst thing you can do and makes it as easy as it can for them.
  24. If you take the last four mins at Leeds, that’s 5 goals in 14 mins
