Childish remarks aside, Williams played left side of a back three at BCFC. He's always played left back at Rovers. Playing centrally in a two is different.
-
Williams is a decent CB if we were playing 3 at the back. Downing turns like a barge. Rodwell hasn't had a decent game in 5 years plus. There is a reason Mowbray was after Bauer.
-
have we signed him?
-
Mowbray said at the beginning of the summer he was 'very excited' about the type of players he was going to be able to sign. Now that we know he has had a sizable budget (by Venky standards) all summer you can see why he said it. As it stands, however, we have signed:- Palmer - looks decent but against Brentford he was probably one of our poorer players (apart from the goal ?). Is he a winger? Good finish but he wasn't in the game for long periods. He looked better against MIllwall but his final ball was poor. No doubting his ability on the ball but will he be effective? Armstrong - at this level the jury is out even though he is quite clearly a class finisher. Mowbray said he wasn't a top target. Rothwell - looks a bargain at £500k or whatever it was. I think Mowbray will be sticking with Smallwood and Evans in the middle if fit so Rothwell will either go wide left or right. Again is he a winger and will he play when Dack, Bennett and Armstrong are all fit? Davenport - one for the future according to Mowbray (but then he said the same about Rothwell). Looking forward to seeing him play but if we are after Reed you'd think Davenport is down the pecking order in CM. Just playing Devil's Advocate here but that isn't an amazing window by any stretch. I think it's ok to say that without being vilified by the usual suspects. A bench containing Hart and Caddis does not suggest defensive strength in depth when we only had Williams out. Conway will be a bit part player at best this season and Travis will go out on loan as soon as we sign Reed would be my guess. Downing gives me the fear at this level and you can see why Bauer has been chased all summer. Nuttall didn't look good enough to be considered a starter yet and he needs a loan move probably. The great thing about this window (so far) has tying down the likes of Dack and Lenihan to long term contracts that reflect their worth to the team. Based on not much knowledge at all Brereton looks exactly the type of player we need. He looks quick and strong and possibly everything Nuttall wasn't on Saturday. When playing teams like Brentford you need an outlet to relieve the pressure. Reed is supposed to be a battler so he'll provide competition in midfield where we need it. A CB would also be a requirement IMO to put pressure on Mulgrew and Lenny to keep performing. Same with a keeper to push Raya. Now That's What I Would Call A Window 18/19.

Wharton was only sub for them at the weekend so maybe he could turn out for us. Tough game this. Mogga won't rest many as he usually goes with a strong team. There's absolutely no chance Rodwell will play. Nuttall will probably start again and leave Graham fresh for BCFC. 1-0 Rovers. Not many on. -
The last time Rodwell played well we were in the Premier League.
-
Teddy Sheringham was never quick. He did ok. David Silva isn't quick either. What Dack has got is that he is a brilliant finisher who can also weight a pass to put someone through on goal. Pace isn't everything, especially in Dack's position.

Brentford were good, there's no denying that. They were far better than Reading and Millwall at passing the ball around in a way that opened up both flanks. Bell and Nyambe had to be on their game. There won't be many matches where they don't score and we had to work incredibly hard to keep them out. What was pleasing is that we looked so solid (crew) defensively. I'd be surprised if Brentford aren't in the top 6 and I doubt many teams will to come to Ewood and move us around like that. We dominated Millwall and Reading for large parts of those games (and Hull and Ipswich by all accounts) but we didn't really come close yesterday. Still won mind, which owes a lot to Mowbray's tactics and the work rate of the team.

Alan Dixon. Even The S*n are too ashamed to print his name.

Saw this post on their forum:- "Blackburn did a proper number on us, we had no space to create anything". I think that sums up todays match perfectly.

I thought Mowbray was very honest in his appraisal after the game. He basically said Brentford had better players and that we were a work in progress as he tries to build the club. I thought those comments were spot on. It was very much a backs-to-the-wall containing job for most of the game, which we did superbly, and on the odd occasion they got a shot off Raya was like Superman. Two immense saves. We played like the away side today, probably out of necessity. Brentford would have cut us open at will if we'd played any other way. As Mowbray pointed out they can go through teams at will. We were impressively solid. The back four were excellent and I thought that was Bell's best game for us. He looked a very composed, solid defender today. Rothwell again impressed with the ball at his feet and that pass to Bennett in the lead up to the goal was sensational. There's a bit of the young David Dunn's about him the way he can use both feet and keep the ball in tight situations. Evans was brilliant again. He was everywhere ratting for the ball and his anticipation is excellent, he's constantly nicking the ball off the oppo's toes. Smallwood was a lot better today and the game suited him more. He wasn't expected to make passes or start attacks, he just kept the shape and put his foot in. Bennett - what can you say? Another amazing performance. Another assist (one in the eye for the haters) but the way he tackled and harried and won the ball was incredible. He must have four lungs. Nuttall - He looked better with Graham alongside him the other night but he doesn't look Championship quality as a lone front man. We improved when Graham came on because he knows how to win headers, hold the ball up and win fouls. Quality finish from Palmer and he had a few good touches but perhaps not a game for the flair players today. Great finish though. Conway loked fitter today and I thought he put a good shift in. Same with Travis, but he really needs to go on loan. Hats off to Mogga. It's a long time since we've seen a team that works as hard as that. It's even more evident than last season. The work rate is phenomenal and is always much higher than the team we are playing. Brentford were very good and against a team that didn't work as hard as ours they could have had a few. Some very talented players in their team. All in all though a brilliant win.

Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Smallwood Evans Palmer Rothwell Bennett Graham Rodwell to come on in the 85th minute, score the winner and peel off his shirt in celebration to reveal a Newcastle one underneath. He'll then never play again.

Sylla would be a Surprise Surprise signing.
