  1. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/15522693._I___m_conscious_of_that____Tony_Mowbray_says_Rovers__new_signings_won_t_block_the_development_of_homegrown_youngsters/?action=success#comments-feedback-anchor Interesting article given the discussion here and elsewhere re the development of our own players. Mowbray's comments are slightly disingenuous as Harper has only made one sub appearance for WBA in the Prem:- “I have long conversations with Damien Johnson and David Dunn about bringing such young players in to the club. I feel as though these players are more experienced, Rekeem has played in the Premier League, Sam has been out on loan, and they have a bit more experience of what is required.” He then goes on to say:- “The other night I sat and watched them with Paul Cook and Peter Reid from Wigan and they were eulogising over our midfield two of Hardcastle and Tomlinson, the best two players on the pitch, yet they had a massively experienced team out" Yet he signed Harper. Looks like @SkipDonoghue was right. Mowbray mentions he has had long convo's with DD & DJ about the merits of bringing in Harper when we have our own talent, yet he apparently decided to ignore their advice.
  2. Up there with the greatest ever Rovers games. From abject despair when Kevin Bacon/Bowie lookalike and future scout Tommy Johnson scored to complete and utter elation when Speedie bagged his brace. I was sat in the Riverside straight across from where Newell started his mazy dribble for our 2nd. Amazing game!
  3. One Simon Garner!!! Love the sight of the BBE when he scored against Liverpool and that hat-trick against City.
  4. The signing of Archibald, with highlights of that 3-2 Villa game.
  5. Williams place is certainly up for grabs at left back. Nuttall too must be in with a chance instead of Antonsson. Evans doesn't deserve dropping bot Tomlinson does seem to be the same kind of midfield schemer. He should certainly get a chance at some point. Dropping Mulgrew to accommodate a youth team CB partnership? Not sure I'd go that far
  6. Agree with those but it's not what I meant by 'blooding' them. I meant who is good enough to go straight into the 1st team? It's ok saying they are a great crop of youngsters but that doesn't mean they are good enough for League 1. Mowbray has to get results, that has to be his priority.
  7. Who would you blood? Are any of the youth team players better than what's in the 1st team? And if he's no trust in youth team players then why has he signed Harper and Chapman? The Harper signing seems an odd one though, unless he is one of those all action box-to-box type midfielders we don't have.
  8. The comments about Hart being 'beautiful' didn't go unnoticed. I know what she's doing. That little minx wants to play....
  9. Another excellent podcast. "You'll never qualify for Europe, you'll never win the Premier League, and you'll never win the League Cup" Up until that point I thought it was a meeting of the Burnley Hoofball Appreciation Society. We'll never play them again in the league? Pah! Let's get some perspective. They could easily get relegated this season, or next season, or any other season. Burnley don't pay the wages other teams in that league pay, even the ones they are competing with in the bottom half. As soon as West Ham show Dyche their knickers he'll be off quicker than milk in a desert. Dyche's a rare (in)breed, when he goes it's all over for the Dingles. Which is why he'll move his wife out of the country before he announces it. It'll be like the Whicker Man again if they catch her. I bought 4000 holes. John Claret in his mum's basement made me chuckle. That should be a regular feature. The cartoon as a whole was excellent. Not read it all (cartoons first, old habits die hard) but 'Bartons best bets' with SMALLWOOD in large letters on the Hollywood Riverside Hill was a bit genius
  10. I know what you're saying, we'll just have to see how good Harper is in comparison to our lads.
  11. So if it's not financial then why would Mowbray block the young lads progress? I'm guessing he either doesn't think they are good enough and that Harper, for example, is better than what we have or some other more suspect reason? We'll see when Harper plays how good he is, but I've always thought Tomlinson was a good player (from the bits I've seen) and he's certainly a more imposing figure than he was two years ago.
  12. Are the reasons for this financial i.e. if the club start playing them in the 1st team it will trigger new contracts?
  13. Could be, but in the full article he lists all his qualities and makes him sound like Shearer! My (cynical) guess is that he's realised he's better than Antonsson so now has to save a bit of face. Best way to do that is to say he's going to 'accelerate' him i.e. he shouldn't be ready but ToMo has seen his potential early. Bl00dy hell, I've been on here far too long with cynicism like that
  14. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/15514899._I_think_we_maybe_need_to_try_and_accelerate_him____Rovers_boss_says_Joe_Nuttall_can_play_a_role_for_the_first_team_this_season/?ref=mac "I genuinely sit here and think we maybe need to try and accelerate him and I don’t want to take him out of what he’s enjoying which is scoring lots of goals for the Under-23s" Mowbray comes out with some weird comments. The U'23's exist so that players can break through to the 1st team, not so they can enjoy themselves with no pressure. Get him in the first team if he's good enough.
  15. That's the one. When it was posted I watched it, hence my comments below the article and the comments by others who watched it. It's odd that you now need to subscribe again. It was @bigbrandjohn who posted it so maybe he will know? It's all a bit twilight zone
  16. Thanks PB, the mods must be getting slack because I'm sure extended highlights of the Bradford game were posted on here. I'd be interested to know from one of the owners of the site @Glenn if extended highlights are allowed. Anyway, it's up on the Rovers site now for those with access. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2017/august/rovers-v-mk-dons---extended-highlights/
  17. https://www.mkdons.com/news/2017/august/extended-action-blackburn-rovers/ Can 'Ifollow' subscribers access all clubs stuff. Will these extended highlights also appear on Rovers page or is it just the away teams? Anyway, could someone who subscribes please post these highlights? Cheers.
  18. By any definition Forest, Leeds and SW are 'big' clubs.
  19. A Tugay special, a bit of Grabbi and a load of drummers
  20. A YouTube collection of our favourite games. Feel free to add your own:- Norwich home 92/93. Cowans, Richard Brown (!), terracing, halfway line flags, Wegerle, Sutton, Tommy Ball's adverts, proper challenges and going top of the league.
