[Archived] Our Loaned Players In Action
LeChuck replied to FourLaneBlue's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
They have quite a few...Nosworthy, Whitehead, Lawrence... Shame they're all crap like. -
That is right, he can't play for anyone until January.

The health problem with ecstasy mainly comes from the potential for it to be mixed with more harmful things. It is possible to 'drown' yourself...the production of urine can be affected, add that to the constant feeling of needing fluids and there is the potential for people to drink more water than their body can handle. This happened in the infamous 1996 incident when a schoolgirl died after taking a pill...and her friends kept giving her water to make her better. (edit: just realised I was referencing Flopsy's link there, should really read to the end before replying.) I think ecstasy is one case that supports the argument for legalisation of drugs...I'm sure that government controlled 'products' would be much safer, in fact it would probably just be the pure MDMA form rather than mixed at all. The same argument is often used for the legalisation of cannabis, although poor versions of that rarely cause people to die (if at all).

I'm not sure where you have got that from, I can't recall the last time we went out to an 'inferior' side. Admittedly my memory only stretches back to '96, but since then it's been Germany, Argentina, Brazil and Portugal. I can't remember a lot about 2000, did we go out in the group stage? I guess that's the worst. Still, come major tournaments, we always seem to avoid potential banana skins.

Agreed...it seems he's realised we need a holding midfielder just in time. In fact, that's probably the first time we've had good performances out of Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham in the same game. I think that's down to having someone to do the dirty work behind them, Gerrard especially looked great on the left, maybe we can include all three together after all. What would make that midfield perfect would be replacing King with a geniune defensive midfielder, either Carrick or Parker would ideal. King's alright at breaking up some attacks and his height is useful, but his distribution is woeful and his positioning could be better. Strikes me a little odd that King is ahead of Carrick when Spurs play Carrick in that role ahead of King. Still, it's a massive improvement on what's gone before, King or not King.

Absolutey, the man is terrible. The worst thing...a myth exists that he can play the ball from defence. Hah! All he does is chip the ball towards midfield...admittedly, it looks calm when he does it, but there's absolutely nothing in those passes that warrants the time and effort he puts into them.

But how many do you know that are like that? I know you're using your brother-in-law as an example of alcoholism (I don't disagree with your views on that) but your opinion on drug addicts seems to have no real-life relevance. I know quite a few people who have/had drug problems, but none of them have resorted to crime. Quite frankly I think you're just taking what you read in the media as gospel regarding drug users. If being an alcoholic is considered an illness than it's just damn right hypocritical to suggest drug addiction is not one, especially as the body craves ('hard') drugs more than it does alcohol. Edit: Missed this: I agree entirely, especially as those two are more likely to be mixed with 'unpure' substances than most other drugs.

Whoa...that is utter crap, seriously...not a word of sense. Do all football fans participate in hooliganism? You should know better than to generalise like that. It's very much a case of the minority giving the majority a bad name, and that's why it's such a hard problem to elimate. Take football; you can't ban people from watching football because a few people want to fight. By the same token you can't treat all drug users as thieves because that simply isn't the case.
-
So...your argument boiled down to two points; 1) Nutmeg can kill people. 2) You want cheaper drugs. If 'the last place' you would want to see your kid is falling out of a pub blind drunk then your experience of drugs is obviously virtually none-existant. I'm not actually against decriminalisation of some drugs (note: some), but advocating the legality of crack because you think your mates can handle it is pathetic.

To be fair to Bruce, that's three games that Taylor has cost them now with stupid mistakes (Arsenal, Newcastle and whoever they played before that...Everton?). He's a quality 'keeper but he keeps making these huge mistakes, and after not criticising him for the first two games I'm not suprised Bruce has decided to say something now.

With Gerrard playing on the right for Liverpool I can see a perfect solution to our midfield problem (should Sven by prepared to drop Beckham, that is...); Gerrard Parker Lampard J. Cole Few midfields in the world can compete with that, I'd put Parker on a par with Makélélé when it comes to playing that holding midfield role...he just oozes class, both with positioning and use of the ball. King is a decent sub, but he's England's version of Mokoena...will put a few good challenges in but ultimately has nowhere near enough skill to warrant a starting place in a midfield four. I know people will say "Sven will never drop Beckham" blah blah blah...but really, when has he ever had a realistic opponent? Wright-Phillips is nowhere near his level yet (and not good enough for Chelsesa if you ask me)...only a converted Steven Gerrard would be approaching his class, and putting him ahead of Becks could provide the solution to getting both Lampard and Gerrard into a midfield four. -
[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
LeChuck replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Agreed, I don't think anyone could hold it against him if he did go either. Luton are preparing our next manager anyway, surely only Mike Newell could be our next manager should Hughes leave in the next year or so? Edit: Just realised how pointless the above speculation is. Nevermind. -

It was all in jest, I was just picturing the media coverage that would surround 'discounted tickets for Asians'. I am, of course, far too lazy to present my own ideas...not that I have any to present, or am ever likely to. Maybe the problem is the unwillingness from the whole majority of the Asian community to embrace English culture? Just a thought (probably stolen from one of a number of topics in ICBINF, admittedly). -

I cringed uncontrollably reading that... Nice David Brent impression though. -
[Archived] Chelsea 4 Blackburn Rovers 2
LeChuck replied to Presty On Tour's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Chelsea never played Drogba and Crespo together from the start, they don't play 4-4-2. It will probably be Crespo up-front as a booking for Drogba would rule him out of the Man Utd game. -
[Archived] Craig Bellamy - Good Signing Or Not?
LeChuck replied to Modi's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Nope... In fact, I still maintain what I said somewhere else in this topic (or the transfer rumours one, I forget)...when he's on form, there's only Henry in this league that is better than him. I just hope he stays fit for longer than one game at a time. -

LeChuck replied to Presty On Tour's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I agree...but, apparently a yellow card for Drogba in this match would see him ruled out of the Manchester United game, so there's a very high posibility that we'll see Hernan Crespo playing instead. The same also goes for Makelele, so he could be benched too. Therefore...we could be looking at a Chelsea side without any of their first choice forward 3 playing and the midfielder which Mourinho described as their 'player of the season' last year... ...so, if Cech, Terry, Lampard and Essien manage to make themselves unavailable for selection between now and Saturday I'd say we stand a pretty good chance of stealing a point. -
[Archived] Rovers 3 Leeds 0
LeChuck replied to SIMON GARNERS 194's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I'd like to see us play a few of the fringe players, but nothing too risky. Leeds play at a high tempo but there's very little ball-playing quality in the midfield, I think we should be able to play a few fringe players and still win the game. Maybe something like... Friedel Zurab Todd Matteo Taylor Thompson Savage Mokoena Emerton Jansen Kuqi -
[Archived] Tugay - Who Next?
LeChuck replied to RovertheHill's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Hmmmm...the role Tugay is playing for us now, which is the sole reason both a midfield four and Robbie Savage and proving effective, is a holding role, not an advanced creative role like everyone else mentioned in here. He's sitting back, picking up the pieces and distributing the ball effectively. Savage knows that Tugay isn't going to be bombing forward so he's left to perform his headless chicken routine...a combination which is proving very effective. The problem with Reid and Savage was that niether was willing just to sit back and let the other do the chasing, Tugay (maybe because of age, maybe because of tactical awareness) is willing to do so. So...the point of that rambling is...we don't need a forward running creative player to replace Tugay. I've even seen talk of Gallagher doing so, which is so far wide of the mark it's untrue. We need a disciplined yet skillful player to replace him, unfortunately those sort of players are rare in England so we'll probably be looking abroad. Scott Parker and Michael Carrick are the only English players I can think of who do a similar job, but they're way out of our league. -
[Archived] Rovers 0 Newcastle 3
LeChuck replied to American's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I'll go for 1-1 in this one...although that seems kind of optimistic given that we haven't scored in three games and Newcastle have scored one all season. Hopefully we'll show more adventure in this game, Newcastle have five of their first choice midfielders missing (Parker, Emre, Solano, Dyer, Luque) so we should be able to come out on top in that battle with an even four vs. four. Friedel Neill Nelsen Zurab Gresko Emerton Savage Reid Pedersen Bentley Bellamy I'd like us to give that a try, or possibly Jansen and Bellamy up top with Bentley on the right. -

LeChuck replied to Tris's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Long ball? Wasn't the second goal the one that Reo-Coker crashed in? My memory is so bad, I can't actually remember three goals...I remember that one and the third one where we messed up big time. -

Theno...goal number two was obviously Mokoena's fault, I know Emerton's an easy target on this board, but come on... -
