[Archived] Ian Wright- Get This Man Off Our Tv Screens
Jan replied to Paul Mellelieu's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Works for me. Steven Gerrard is definitely a cheat. Ban him from the world cup ( and if you could just take John "look no hands" Terry with you I'd be well happy.) -

I was never glad we had him. I saw his picking Darren Peacock for his first game in charge "because he'd heard of him", as a sign of things to come*. There were a few "ups" before the concentrated downs of the latter seasons, but I never trusted him to have the best interests at BRFC at heart in anything he ever did. That's why I'd have preferred someone else at the time he was hired. Prefereably someone young and with something to prove. He bought Sparky, though! (*Sorry to remind people about Peacock. If you remember he hadn't been near to the team for a while by that point- thanks to his habit of passing the ball ever so slowly across the box. Just slowly enough to allow the opposing forward to intercept and score, indeed!) Of my last 10 posts (before this one) 6 had nothing whatsoever to do with Souness. Try and get even ONE fact right! -

Obviously not- or maybe psychic powers are at work? Doubt that. Since simple reasoning doesn't seem to be part of the make-up, higher powers almost certainly won't be. Sorry- but anyone who thinks that Souness has any semblance of tactical nouse hasn't been watching his teams performances for the past 3 seasons. Even the hoodwinked majority questioned the tactics and team choices in his latter 2ish years with us- not replacing Duff, anyone? The geordies, on the other hand, didn't have the rose-tinted specs that you lot had. They knew from day 1 he was rubbish- and they were proved right. -
On another tack The third choice goalie went from one who played for Norwich to one who played for Sheffield Wednesday (albeit on loan from Liverpool), while the fourth choice is now someone who spent the season at Watford (albeit on loan from Manure). Says a lot about the state of English goalkeeping really

That would assume: 1 That he actually knows anything about the REAL capabilities of the players he nearly ruined and 2 That he would actually set tactics to deal with them (we know he never did with us- we played a certain way regardless of whom we played) -

I'm here! I was actually enjoying football without the dozy ######'s stupid utterances. Hopefully Jordan will see the light, but he'll fail there as he has done for the past 4 years. Not that I mind- when they're relegated to the first division it's another London game for me to go and see Grimsby. -
Thanks for the effort but you were a crap, moaning git. Cole for Dickov..............mutter, mutter

Just relieved. Celtic are straight into the league. No need for any of this nasty qualifying thing! That's 4 away games in Europe now! (At least) PHEW!!
-
Interesting. Lots of people to feed passes for goal and a beanpole and a 12 year old to receive the passes. Hmn!!! (Assuming Owen and Rooney don't make it)

I for one think it is the most inspired appointment since Berti Vogts was appointed to the Scotland job.

[Archived] Premiership Final Table Prediction
Jan replied to brfcshabba's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I just thought it was funny that ANYBODY expected a Souness- "inspired" Newcastle to beat us. Admittedly a few thought he'd be sacked and then they'd do better (which they of COURSE did). But for the others...............!!! -
Oh dear- the ignorance is overwhelming My friend and I are already in the process of putting together a map of europe with the teams already qualified, overlaid with nice hotels and good places to buy shoes and handbags. Seriously looking forward to Albania though! Grey sheets and "bring your own tins of baked beans!!! And I don't drink alcohol!!!

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Jan replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
There were some very silly statements made weren't there. I think it's the gulf in QUALITY, planning, training, that has told. And it's no conincidence that as soon as our ex-manager was sacked (I love saying that- was sacked) from the post he left us for, they improved beyond all recognition too! -
I tend to agree with this. I hadn't read the items which I wrote and they are definitely rabid. I don't disagree with them much, but they were a little over-wrought. My point has always been that I thought that there were better options for us- from day one- than an over-the-hill manager who was there to pick up a pension and have one five a side game a day (our training "method") to remember his glory days. Admittedly I only KNEW this was what was happening relatively late, but I always knew that he was wrong for us. I even think that with the money he had to spend (and remember Jack was alive when he came) that there were better ways to use it- and that we should have got better players, and also got more out of the players we had. I think everyone has said that this season has been their most enjoyable for years. Why? Because we've had dignity, played well at times, not made excuses for bad performances, and felt inspired. When we came sixth it was against a background of whingeing and whining, a feeling that we should have done better and that the results -especially at home- hadn't been particularly edifying. The biggest differences were that 1. I didn't feel the need this season to "assume the position" whenever we took the lead (you know the one- head in hands repeating "blow the ******* whistle over and over). I just felt confident that there was a plan behind it and that we could deliver on this plan. 2. When we went behind I felt we were cpapble of getting the game back, and actually was quite disappointed when we didn't! Under the previous regime, anything good seemed to come as a surprise to all concerned- immediately tempered with the "40 points" mantra. You couldn't enjoy it, because well- it didn't matter -as the only thing that was important was to get 40 points to stay in the division.

OTT Just glad to have been right. And not to have to worry any more. we love HUGHES!!!

Craig Bellamy Sergio Peter -Young player of the year Tugay, Reid and Bellamy shared the "man of the match" players of the year - they each won MOTM 3 times reid won Goal of the season. Lucas Neill won the award voted for by the Rovers World staff- for away performances I think Brad Friedel won a special award for being a general good guy. Think that was it

As long as there's a Rocco Forte or Orient Express hotel, I'll be happy

I think when one of the pub "fans" starts going on about the team, you should just tell them they're not true fans and have no right to any opinion. Or walk away and don't listen. I took 2 days off work to go to the game and the POTY dinner. I drove home after the dinner and am going to work tomorrow. Does that make me a better fan than those wasters in the pub? YOU BET IT DOES. And I don't think ANY of them should get tickets for Europe- especially not for the away games. Or- they CAN have a ticket, but pnly if they buy a season ticket first.* * obviously exceptions will be made for those who live abroad!!!!

[Archived] Should Dunny Have Come Home?
Jan replied to blinddevotion's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I wonder how much more motivated he'd have been to get back if he were still at Rovers? I suspect quite a bit. I also don't think he's feigning injury, but issn't enthusiastic about Brum in the way he clearly is about rovers.
