For most games, the lowest adut price is £15. Oh dear, that £2.33 must make all the difference, mustn't it!!!

Maybe we should use it on the missing support. Find out the pubs they're in and close them down!!!

Billinge end blue According to you, then, everything in the attendance garden is rosy. That's why Mark Hughes has made more than one appeal for the fans to get down there in numbers and roar the team on? That's why we've had to suffer the "kids for a quid" on a number of occasions? Do you think that Craig Bellamy et al would 1) prefer to be roared on by 46,000 screaming fans or 2) prefer to be roared on by a half-empty stadium. I'd make the analogy with a theatre- it's far better to have a full theatre to play to than an empty one. Putting on a very good performance in front of 35 is soul-destroying whereas doing it in front of 200 is great. The adrenalin lifts you. Now we're doing quite well in the adrenaline stakes without the wasters who watch from the local pub, but maybe the goal difference would improve if they foreswore the 5 extra pints to get down and watch the team? Who knows what we could achieve then. Maybe Mark Hughes does. Maybe that's why he wants us all there.

Pretty much how I heard it, although I hadn't heard about wanting a pay rise- only some assurance that the club actually wanted him to stay. He didn't get it. We got £17m. And spent it on Ferguson, Emerton and Amauseless (and, thank god, Steven Reid)

I think everybody has to start realising that we're dealing with Hughes, not Sourness now. And that there is a BIG difference between the two. Hughes is a manager in his first league job who hungers for success. Sourness was picking up a paycheck and didn't care how we did. ("lady luck"- has anyone noticed that you don't need luck when you play well??) While under the last regime (in fact to be truthful all our previous regimes), absolutely NO care was taken over our European performances as they were simply a "distraction from the league", this certainly won't be the case under Hughes. Why? Because he's already said so. He's going out for European qualification and he's not the type to do that and then be under-prepared for the actual matches themselves. Just as we're doing in the league now, we'll know what we have to do and do it. I must admit even I've been surprised at how vast the improvement has been. I mean I always knew that a decent manager could do better for us than our last one, but even I didn't dream that the players we had when Hughes arrived were capable, with a few key additions, of performing this well. Please lets not have a round of "well it shows that Sourness could spot talent" because even if he spotted it, he ruined it with his cruddy training methods soon afterwards. I think the biggest change is that I believe that Hughesy AND HIS TEAM are capable of performing the analysis necessary to spot weaknesses in the opponents play. I always thought that Dean Saunders was just short of being an idiot whereas I don't think that Mark Bowen is. I also think that Mark Hughes is a cerebral manager whereas Sourness was all to do with emotion. I think Hughes is a fantastic manager, which worries me because he's probably too good to stay with us in the long term, unless people out there start waking up and smelling the coffee. Although the supporters really don't contribute a huge amount financially, a lack of presence must be soul-destroying when the team's doing so well and putting so much in.

Unfortunately for the year before that and two of those three years, home fans could have expected to see dull, clueless football matches which we'd lose. Fans were slow to stop coming, and a lot are now too mean to come back- especially when they can drink themselves into a stupor watching the game in local pubs while proclaiming what great supporters they are. (This is hidden by pathetic whinges about hikes in prices- which simply aren't true) I know fans were slow to stop coming, because I was. Unfortunately by the time we'd sold Dunn and Duff I'd already renewed my season ticket, or I wouldn't have. I didn't repurchase the next season until the moment he who must not be named left. The quality of those 18 months had convinced me I would rather spend my Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Monday, Wednesday or Saturday evenings shopping. That's been a hard habit to break and I've not fully managed it - especially for away games to outer Mongolia (aka Sunderland, Middlesbrough or Pukear*ehole) and midweek home games. However, the club has my money so if I don't turn up- I don't see this as a problem for them! I also have a Radio Rovers season so that I can listen if not there. However I think that, as Celtic do, Rovers should have a facility whereby overseas subscribers can watch the games live for an extra subscription. This might bring money into the coffers and make overseas supporters feel more a part of the club.

I thought we'd do enough to win, just like I think we'll do enough to win every game now. I don't know what it is about Mark Hughes, but he just instills such confidence in me. It's like he actually understands and has thought about the game. Kenny had that. I think Hodgson had a bit but didn't really understand the league, and the rest haven't had a Scooby. I just think it's a pity that all those around us are doing well as well. Maybe West Brom can beat Spurs 6-0 to help us???

Can't go because I'm on stage that night- otherwise I would.

Celtic are getting 3,000 and there's a lottery to see who will get them as it's way over-subscribed -
[Archived] Craig Bellamy - Good Signing Or Not?
Jan replied to Modi's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Bellamy cost £3.5m. We're 6th. we must have budgeted for about 12the. That's 6 places better. That's £3m extra. On the down side,he was £3.5m in a forced sale (a forced sale by Newcastle because the manager hated him- snigger) and is clearly worth about £10m. Could we get Souness to manage Arsenal for a wee while and then maybe we could get Henry for £3.5m???? -

There was one instance on Saturday when one of Emerton's crosses from the right (Jack Walker side) went over the strikers into the Riverside. Craig Bellamy shouted at Emerton to get his attention and then pointed directly at the goal as if to say "I was kind of hoping to put that cross in here" or "this is what the goal looks like"- couldn't quite work out which. -

So when EXACTLY do you want to stop being a child? 30, 40? Not being funny, but you're really whingeing because you're getting older and expected to contribute the same as the rest of us. What do you expect BRISA to do? Turn back time? -

Again, it's not the club's fault. You've presumably left school and/or college now therefore have to pay the same ticket as anyone else who works. (if not, don't the club allow young adults if you're a full-time student? I'm sure they would) Or you could just go and sit in the £250 part of the ground. And extra £25, but the chance to spread it over 11 instead of 10 months and it would be just about the same per month. -

The point is you're NOT being asked to find "a couple of hundred quid". It of course depends on where you sit and the type of season ticket you have (junior, etc) but the most you'd have to pay in April if you paid over 11 months is about £130. That's for 3 adult season tickets in the JW upper! And unless you've had a pay cut, how can you be being priced out when the club is holding prices steady? -
And as for their being other crime priorities- that may well be, but this is a crime WITH an arrest!!! ie helps their clearup rate!!!

Some people are never happy- no matter WHAT the club tries to do!!! Not only freezing the season ticket price but allowing that frozen price to be paid over 11 months! Count me and my mate in! -

Guess he'll be at our game tomorrow again then! -
Also not inconvenienced by the switch, but at the very least LIVERPOOL should be made to refund the fares paid by our overseas supporters AND get them tickets that will allow them to see the game. Also agree that frankly, Hillsborough's a long time ago, they had it switched so they could attend the service, and we should have told them to get knotted when- BECAUSE THEY WENT OUT OF EUROPE- they wanted it switched again.

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Jan replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Tony Parkes was 10 years overdue for sacking. Nice man but was seen as too much a permanent fixture and therefore a safe person to run to. It's telling that Hughes (as an ex-player) made his going a priority. He'd probably seen how divisive his influence could be and decided it wouldn't happen with him. -
That's the actual point. There are so many people who make excuses (and whinge incessantly) but actually the bottom line is they simply don't want to go. If they did, they would. How to make them want to go? Truthfully- paying THEM to attend is the only way you'd motivate them. I know there's a lot of twaddle talked about affordability, and local wages etc, but as Lee has said- there are season tickets which cost £250- about £13 a ticket. (Of course they're not in the Jack Walker central or the lower Blackburn End- "how DARE they not be exactly where I want to sit at exactly what I'm willing to pay" I hear them ask) *£250 a ticket = £6.25 a week over a 40 week season. For an adult. for 2 hours entertainment. How much is the cinema in Blackburn now..........??
-
And therein lies the problem with watching on television and thus getting a one-dimensional view of the game. You've missed: the getting into the right position to back up his other defenders when the forward has gone past them; the passing- a lot of which has been sublime; the making a nuisance of himself in the box to either score himself or allow others to score; the being in a space to receive passes.
-
That isn't the world's worst thought. I suspect there's a core that would pay double. I think too much is made of "it costs too much". Gaz says "it costs £80 for 2 to come to a match". Not to most matches it doesn't- even to the best matches (A+) there are tickets for adults at £24 (for less attractive matches it's £15 each). How much does he spend on a night out? I suspect not much shy of £60 for 2. It's just a question of priorities. I'd lay HEAVY odds that if we got to another final, or next season when we're much closer to winning the league because we believe from day 1 it's possible, suddenly the "i can't afford it" crowd will turn up. Just as long as they don't get tickets to the final in front of me!!!

I thought the funniest thing was the Puke fans singing "Souness for Sunderland".. They REALLY hate him.

[Archived] Creating Your Own Rovers Kit.
Jan replied to Driftpeasant's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
What a complete twally! Of course overseas supporters are proper supporters. When they come over, they 1) spend a fortune to do so and 2) then spend more in the club shop in one visit that you do in a lifetime. Everyone's welcome at Rovers (although I'd question whether that SHOULD be extended to bigots like one post). To all those not currently onepost- ignore him. Maybe he'll go away and stop annoying us all then!!!
