  1. Sorry Tris I spoke to THREE ex-Rovers players. They all had the same basic contract and all said the same thing. And as for my staying friendly with Crofty- why on earth shouldn't I???
  2. I don't believe you just said "top Striker" and "Three Million" in the same sentence!! Try double plus. We got Bellers cheap because Sourpuss couldn't stand the sight of him any more. We won't be THAT lucky again!
  3. And just LOOK how well Wigan did against 10 man West Brom!!!
  4. According to an ex-Rovers player, riding MOTORBIKES is specifically banned within their contract. Pushbikes are not. And I noticed that Matty didn't realise he had to wait for the other player to come off before he came on as well. Effect of the crash. And as for why Bolton? Simple- it's the last big payday he'll get. Let's face it, if you were a washed-up footballer who was pretty sure you couldn't perform at a high level yet someone came and gave you a lucrative (Albeit short-term) contract, you'd take it and worry about the consequences later. What he's done is good busiess for him- it's terrible business for Sam, but I guess he doesn't realise that yet.
  5. Apparently Bellamy had a fitness test just before the gates opened today, and passed it (but only just). Hence he wasn't on from the start, and the fear on everyone in the dugout's faces when he got kicked just after he went on. Oh and I have a theory about our two central defenders (whoever they may be) It's called "the magic passing hat". The trouble is, we only have one, so only one of them can wear it at a time. Today and on wednesday, Todd had it. Earlier in the season, Nelsen had it. When wearing it, their passes go neatly to one of our men. When not, they don't- simple as that. (well- you think up something better to explain all those misplaced passes when they've played so well earlier in the season) Oh, and guess who turned up just before kick-off (and I mean as the teams were coming off after the warm-up)? Amauseless. I specially loved the way he walked all the way round the path round the pitch, eliciting only groans from those of us who noticed he WASN'T limping and not being asked (that I could see) for a single autograph.
  6. I cried at the end- because it's sad to see someone who had so much potential but who will never fulfil it. He looked lost on the pitch, and it just proved how right we were to let him go.
  7. Not absolutely sure what guns are, but at Liverpool, he had to come on when Khiz got sent off. He took off his training top to put on his shirt and wasn't wearing anything underneath. Made my day- had a wonderful set of pecs and six-pack!!!!
  8. I sort of hope he does play, as it'll mean they only have 10 men on the pitch
  9. Note Those who are criticising Todd for last night weren't there Those who aren't were. He was the best defender on the park last night by some considerable way. Actually it was funny to think that the "great" Rio Ferdinand was the third-best centre back on the pitch last night!
  10. Just back from the game. From my view of the "incident" (from the Jack Walker lower)- whichever of the Mancs went in to Savage definitely deserved a red. It was a two-footed scything lunge, which has no place in a game. If that's the best team the Mancs can throw at us, and they have more games than us to the next leg (one against Liverpool), we have more than a little chance!
  11. I SO like Mark Hughes. Isn't it nice to have a manager where you don't cringe at what he says!
  12. That's the best description of the Souness reign I've yet heard. I was sick when from day one it was "the cups are not important" "we have to get into then stay in the league" and my special favourite "we're not bothered about this tie (CSKA Sofia)" when I was on the plane to Sofia. The fact that we lost the second round to Celtic because of HIS behaviour didn't endear him to me either. (I went to the first game not worried who won- said as much to anyone who asked at the time and left wanting Celtic to tonk us) As someone else said, almost any other manager could have got us up with the inherited squad (Kidd was not a manager- even more tactically inept than Souness). Almost any other manager would have realised that squad wouldn't have kept us there and would have got rid of a lot of the deadwood) remember Jack was alive and spending when he got here. The cup was a bonus I'll admit, but the league form around then was abysmal. Even when we finished 6th I remember more than me on here complaining that with the way we could play in some games we should have been much higher in the league. I love the cattiness of Mark Hughes as well- especially his comment that "it's easy to say that your ambition is to stay in the league, anything else then is over-achieving. We want to do more than that" That and his "I haven't played a weakened side in any cup and don't intend to do so now" exactly expressed how I wanted the team to be seen. Talking us down just annoyed me and led to me not making the 400+ mile round trip to cup games (today I have bought a ticket but wasn't feeling well and woke up at 2- have bought ticket for the midweek game and will make the trip then providing I feel better.)
  13. Dear goodness. It was obvious from his many attempts at playing football over the past 3 years that he would never get back to anything like the player he was. No amount of time, or chances would have made any difference. His career as a top class footballer is over, and it's very sad. You could have played him in every single game for the past two years and the only outcome would have been relegation as we'd have effectively been playing with 10 players for each of those games. Lots of people still believe in him- it's akin to believing in fairies. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, but I don't think he will. Seeya Matt. All the best.
  14. Erm- isn't that nearly our strongest fit team? I'd be horrified if Savage was playing- he was completely exhausted on Monday and needs a lot of rest. I think we might see some younger lads in there, with the main team on the bench to come on if necessary (well- three of them anyway)
  15. I'm not one of those who think that the comments here are over the top. Actually I think they've in general been overly kind to someone who was a long way down the road of ruining our football club when Puke stepped in for him. But I'm actually enjoying his discomfiture, as day after day another first team player breaks down, so much that I'm quite willing for him to stay on just so's I can laugh some more- especially if he can keep Puke losing and take them down (still my dream- but those at the bottom are so bad I think it's a bit of a forlorn hope.)
  16. Isolated or not, the boys should have been pointed out to stewards and at the very least ejected. Racism should not be tolerated AT ALL. Being drunk is not an excuse.
  17. I think that Savage's 87 mile run at Wigan meant that he was incapable of running much tonight. (This isn't a criticism- I thought Wigan would be a more difficult game too). He needed to come off at about 65 minutes and Tugay to come on. After that he looked exhausted. Kuqi didn't know where he (or anybody else) was tonight. His radar was down and he just looked shattered. Reid was amazing in the first half, but along with Savage disappeared in the second half. Nelsen is GOD. Bentley was being clattered into so much in the first half that as it went on he got more and more worried, and thus less and less effective. (although strangely still looked better than a very out of sorts Emerton.) Matteo wasn't very good, but then again he hadn't played for months. We should all send Michael Gray "get well VERY soon" cards. My nerves certainly won't stand Matteo on the pitch against Manure (although we might get away with it against QPR)
  18. I got there, had a nice meal, and will see the game some other time. I don't pay for my petrol, so all I did was waste my time. And not get cold. Ho hum. Now off to the Portsmouth game!
  19. Not harsh at all. For anybody who makes their living through their body to risk it by hiring a moped in Rome is extremely stupid. Also, as I think Rovers use the same basic contract for all of their players and it was certainly a prohibited activity on the contracts of the players that I know, I suspect we have gone above and beyond by not firing him on the spot. Lovely guy. Could have been a great player. Ruined himself by stupidity. Got 3 years of wages for no return.
  20. What's rattled your cage? You didn't get to see a match on Wednesday? TOUGH. We were fresher for Wigan and I suspect the result against Sunderland will be the same whenever we play them. Why carry it on? who actually cares what went wrong? I for one don't. It would have been nice to see a match, but I went to Wigan instead which was nice- and I've no doubt I'll go to the rematch. Get over it
  21. He's been gone for nearly 4 years, but we've still been paying him I prefer this arrangement.
  22. Actually, every single time I've done something daft like leave it late to get a ticket, they've managed to get one to me (even when I've called the day before games in the afternoon). However, my usual contacts weren't there, and I got a useless jobsworth. I just hoped that like their colleagues this dolt would "think outside the box". She didn't. I did. End of.
  23. People may say many awful things about Ashley Ward (most of them accurate), but on the programme of "the game that never was", we had Craig Bellamy modelling the latest kit. Now it's obvious who's the better footballer, but as a kit model, there was no contest. Ashley was one of the best (sorry- david Beckham just beats him). In fact, looking at him you could almost believe a football kit was sexy- until you looked around at all the supporters wearing one! In fact, if we'd just kept him as a kit model and not allowed him on the pitch, I'm sure we'd have done much better (in kit sales AND goals)
  24. I tried to get a ticket this morning. They wanted me to pick it up. Unfortunately the "not-drongos" I usually speak to in the ticket office are on holiday so I had to speak to their stupid cousins. This meant that they wouldn't be sensible or think up any clever ways to get the ticket to me- as the others would have done. (Like I'm going to go all the way from London to Blackburn and then down to Wigan again!) So I called Wigan and got one of theirs. So that's one more Rovers supporter in the ground, albeit sitting on her hands and saying nothing during the game!!
  25. Yes, because as on principle I won't go to Newcastle, Sunderland or Boro (too damn far), any other ground would be nearer for me. Some people who travel two minutes to games don't seem to realise that for others this is the furthest away ground we as supporters go to. And we do it every second week. So Modi got told it was on, and then it wasn't. Boo hoo. Was I cross, yes. Did I get over it in a couple of minutes and a text to 5 Live? Yes. Why? Because I'm a grown-up and realise these things happen (also as the replay will be later in the season it was one game I DIDN'T and now probably WON'T have to sit in sub-zero temeratures to watch.) And we'll be more rested for Wigan, which will be a more difficult game. All good in my book
