  1. A very good set of penalty kicks. A coat of paint saved us and probably Southgate, let's not forget that. We were better today but still unbalanced until Palmer and Shaw came on. The Swiss did have more of the 2nd half, extra time a stalemate apart from that corner and the Swiss strong at the end. Onwards we go.
  2. Lineker, the useful (to the BBC) idiot, to quote Matt le Tissier
  3. An over extension of loyalty to the older players going too far in playing them out of position to the detriment of the balance of the team. His excuse is the absence of Shaw who always was a waste of a squad place due to his slow recovery from injury and lack of match time for ages. I call it gross negligence.
  4. If Trippier plays then whomever plays forward of him on the left is doomed to struggle.
  5. Southgate is by nature a defensive orientated manager. He's not going to change that in a EURO QF. He probably will start Palmer but he'll be hampered by team tactics same as Foden and Saka. I think it will be a low scoring game. England to win 2-1. The "performance", by the players and not Southgate although he will get the credit, can be saved for the Final v Spain where that and luck will be needed.
  6. One hell of an indictment of Southgate, and it's so true.
  7. He always has been. Regarded as the top referee in the whole of the UK. It's a very low bar, a millimetre above ground level. He and Atwell are so bad it defies belief.
  8. It's worth a rerun Banks talking about the save and better video of it at https://youtu.be/9IXEc6BAHpY?si=EpCm1t-hcId__RVK
  9. He got a bad shoulder injury mid May, I think he's now ok and back for Orlando
  10. Yes, great save by the Turkish keeper but Banks save was much lower and he still got a strong hand to it to deflect up and away. The whole incident was perfection, pass, cross, header and save all perfect and watched on a colour TV which my Dad had got especially for the WC.
  11. I've seen dogs shit better that than shower.
  12. Postcards sent, then a telegram and to make sure delivered with not too much pace at a perfect height for the keeper to save, the only requirement was to dive the correct way. 3 of the most pathetic penalties I've ever seen.
  13. He was at Palace in his youth and played over 150 senior games for them . He's probably quite fond of them. He should be playing Adam to boost the value Palace get when they sell him. Southgate runs England like a 'Pals" society, Adam had been proposed for membership but apparently not yet seconded. Meanwhile Spain play a 16 year old because they select based on ability and form. It shows.
  14. Brum under the Yanks, who are not shy about spending, will look to bounce back first go and will try to keep the better players. Like we did.
  15. Sir Geoff's head wasn't up his own arse like so many ofyou today's players. I read Bellingham's BBC post match. As I was reading my first thought was "entitled dipstick shit" you've just played poorly whilst moaning and doing a baby big lip
  16. Bellingham's goal involved great skill by him. It also involved Walker taking a basic long throw and getting the ball into the area where a bit of luck, a deflection or a simple nod on can produce the goods as in this case. But an "iconic" goal? It was a very good goal that saved national embarassment in the first knockout stage. For the winner Eze's complete miskick fortunately bounced on to Toney's head and on to Kane who then actually was in the right place to easily nod in. I posted earlier in the thread that will still had a ticket in the lottery. We still have that ticket and I'm not too upset at playing poorly whilst winning. I'm ok with that all the way through to our lifting the trophy. I have seen real "iconic' England goals live. 3 by a guy called Hurst and 1 by a guy called Peters. Over 32 million TV viewers in the UK saw the same.
  17. Our goal was a good one and nothing at all to do with Southgate. A long throw into the mix just to see what happens
  18. Rice and Mainoo walking about midfield whilst doing 5 yard passes sideways backwards. Meanwhile Gallagher .... FFS
  19. Nail on head. VAR shows what happened but it's the human interference in rule changes and interpretation that has overcomplicated. In the case if handball just keep it simple, is it deliberate or not. Cut out the crap. It may produce more goals and do away with did the ball graze a players fingernail whilst they were running at high speed who, oddly in the view of idiots like Oliver and Atwell, use hands and arms for balance
  20. GerLand 2 v Denmark robbed. I wonder how much the English are paid.
  21. I started a binge watch from 1960, now at March 1982. I saw most of the 60s and a lot of the 70s at the time but little since the early 80s. I have enjoyed rewatching the early stuff the most. Minnie was a gem. All on YouTube.
  22. I don't know the exact rules, I'd assumed as he was back over the boundary he was ok despite being airborne.
