  1. It's just so strange that there were literally NO outward signs of ANY depression whatsoever... or at least, the impression I get from those close to him certainly suggests that. If he did have depression, it must have taken some seriously incredible mental strength not to let any outward signs surface. It's frightening that somebody could seem so normal, and hide the type of turmoil that leads to suicide.
  2. I just cannot understand this... he had two young kids, a well-paid job, by all accounts a decent lad... what in the world could have driven him to this? RIP
  3. Blatter is a total moron, but these comments have been blown out of proportion somewhat. I would say i'm surprised an organisation the size of FIFA doesn't employ a few PR guys to ensure Blatter and other high-profile officials don't say anything that could be seen to be stupid or inconsiderate... but it is FIFA we're talking about.

Well, why not? My name's Daniel, 24 years old from Ipswich and I've been following Rovers since 1992 or so. I had two uncles who lived up in t'north and were massive Rovers supporters. They got me to a Rovers game in 1993 before my dad got me to an Ipswich game, so Rovers became the team I supported. Originally as a kid I was called a 'glory hunter', but that quickly died down as we slid further and further down but my support for the Rovers became stronger and stronger! Due to my location I don't get to anywhere near as many games as I'd like to. I usually go to the away games at London clubs and generally make it to Ewood two or three times a season for various matches. It's one hell of a trek, more so now as I'm living independently and not exactly rolling in it. I've also watched Rovers at Old Trafford a couple of times (lost both times). My uncles no longer live in the north, if they did I'd probably be up a lot more... but nevermind! I studied English Lit at University and gained a Masters... in the real world it means very little, but I love literature and studied it for the sake of loving the subject and not neccessarily job prospects (slim to none in a dying industry). As a result, I work in household insurance underwriting (booo). That's about it.... oh, also, Kean Out!
  5. My estimation of Kean could quite literally go no lower, I absolutely despise the man and cannot wait until the day he leaves this club. As a result, Kamy's words do not surprise me at all - nor should they surprise anybody else, knowing how the slimy little weasel got the job in the first place. Hopefully people will make their voices heard at the weekend. I don't hold much hope, but a stadium-wide "KEAN OUT" chant would be beautiful.
  6. That's true Theno, but I know many, many people now (especially youngsters, 18/19/20 years old) who spend their nights playing Call of Duty/FIFA on their X-Box with their mates (sometimes together, sometimes remotely connected via the net). In terms of pulling and flirting I've lost count of the amount of couple I know who "met" over either myspace or facebook. The internet is changing the way people interact, and I think it's underestimated as a factor in why youngsters aren't going out to bars and clubs as much as they used to. It's difficult to say how big of an impact it's having, but even five/ten years ago the attitudes towards the internet and consoles were not the same as they are now. I should add that it isn't limited to the younger members of society... an older single fella who ten years ago may have gone out to try his luck at a bar can now use facebook or a dating website. It's much easier to be confident behind a keyboard.
  7. Hi all... thought I'd post this in here rather than starting a new thread! I've recently completed the first draft of a novel. Theme-wise it's similar to Orwell's 1984, with an increasingly oppressive Government controlling the lives of its citizens. The story follows two strands - one from the perspective of a loyal citizen slowly dragged into the rebel underworld, and another following a group of rebels trying to bring the Government structure down before it's too late. Just wondering if anybody fancied reading and giving feedback on this? If it interests anybody I'd be happy to send the novel across. It's in PDF format, so I believe it should be able to be transferred to a kindle, though I don't have one myself so I'm not sure how the process works! Drop me a PM if interested, I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback
  8. I have almost zero interest in WWE nowadays, but when Savage was wrestling - both in WWF and WCW - it was a great time to be watching wrestling. Be a Man is a tune as well... 'hollywood hulkster, you're at the end of your rope, and i'm gonna kick you in the butt and wash your mouth out with soap'
  9. RIP. A true entertainer and a gent outside the ring, too. By all accounts he was very careful with his money and had begun to rebuild burnt bridges with WWE & also Hogan. A great shame.
  10. Can't really place any blame on the lad, by all accounts he did alright today. Roberts, Mame Diouf, MGP and Kalinic should be asking themselves how a young kid from Barca's reserve/youth setup has managed to get into the first team picture ahead of them. Kalinic possibly to a lesser extent as there seems to be more than meets the eye going on there.
  11. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1377492/West-Hams-vice-chairman-Brady-rips-5m-flop-big-fat-Benni.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Ouch.
  12. Paid £1.5M to leave his club after failing to do what was asked of him in terms of basic fitness. Got to love football.
  13. Actually got goosebumps watching that, if only because I can remember watching it when I was younger... we lost that match 2-0 if my memory serves me correctly... was gutted. Good thing it didn't matter in the end
  14. Met Ronnie during my brief stint up north.... a total gentleman and his passion for Rovers shone through. With mercenaries now littering the football landscape, memories of true legends like Ronnie Clayton shine ever brighter. RIP.
  15. It isn't really comparable to the England national team at all. The Premiership as a division has far more quality now and is far more competitive than it was in 1993/1994, or 1994/1995. That's not to diminish the achievements of our players during that time, but if those same group of players were to play in the current climate I'm not sure they'd be as successful as they were back then. Flowers, Hendry, Le Saux, Berg, Batty, Ripley and of course Shearer would still be good to excellent premiership players IMO. Not so sure about the others. Would players like Slater, Wilcox, Warhurst, Newell, Pearce, Atkins or even Sherwood be anywhere near as effective now as they were back then? We'd be challenging in the top half, but I'm not sure we'd be breaking the top four. Just my opinion, though. It's entirely possible I'm underestimating the talents of some squad members - players like Sherwood, Sutton, Newell, Gallacher are debatable.
  16. Not sure about that mate, the quality of the league has improved considerably in a number of ways since 1994. I'm not sure that Rovers team would be title contenders matched against the same players of today.
  17. Of the current team, I can only think Samba, Nelsen (a few years ago, anyhow), Jones and maybe N'Zonzi would have had a chance of getting into that team. Andrews would have struggled to make the reserves.
  18. Love videos from the 92 - 96 era, can't begin to count how many times i've watched the 1994-95 Premiership Years ...
  19. Just got his new album... Have to say I'm not overly impressed with it, though it's a massive, massive improvement on Relapse. It's up there on the same level as The Eminem Show, though IMO it doesn't come close to SSLP or MMLP. Em's a little clumsy in a few parts, but generally his flow is very good. The beats aren't as creative as they might have been, but they're good enough. One of the things that annoys me about this album, and quite a lot of Eminem's recent stuff, is his attempts to sing. He can't, so I'm not sure why he tries. He needs to stick to rapping and let the guests do the singing. Favourite tracks are Talkin 2 Myself (no idea who Kobe is, though?), On Fire, No Love, Space Bound, Love the Way You Lie (Rhianna is fantastic in this track) & You're Never Over. Didn't really dig the song with Pink, or the one with the Black Sabbath sample.
  20. Being paid all that money, with enough natural talent to make fellow professionals jealous, and he can't even be bothered to stay in shape. He can't even get motivated to be fit in the year his home country are playing in and hosting a world cup. What a waste of talent, glad we got rid when we did. £2.5M was a steal.
  21. RIP... absolutely heartbreaking.
  22. First the racist chanting and now this. Shameful. Very tragic, hope the lad pulls through, though it doesn't sound good.
  23. West Ham fans seem generally quite pleased by the prospect of McCarthy joining them. I think he could potentially do quite well for them with the World Cup coming up. If rumours of a 2.5 year deal are true, though, they're in for a huge disappointment next season when he turns up fat(ter), unmotivated and outspoken.
  24. Benni may be 32, but £1.25M sounds to me like WHU trying to take advantage of the public falling out between BFS and Benni. 2M should be minimum.
  25. Well the majority of them are missing the most important target - the goal on the pitch! Get 'em all in early until we start performing properly for 90 minutes. It's the least they can do for 30+k a week, really.
