  1. Rest assured Mowbray would have found a way to take us into a death spiral either way, even if we had a time-travelling prime Brad in goal.
  2. Seeing as TM was in charge it would still would have been outside of the playoffs tbf. As for Raya wanting to leave - considering how Mowbray treated him I'm not surprised.
  3. Big risk for Jones in a lot of ways as well. One he had to take, obviously, but after bombing so hard at Stoke it would be very damaging to his reputation to bomb again as soon as he's outside of the familiar surroundings of Luton.
  4. I think something else must have gone on at Wigan for him to be sacked just three weeks after signing a new contract. Makes very little sense otherwise, unless one assumes the owners are complete idiots. Which tbf may be the case, I don't know enough about them to say one way or another.
  5. Maguire could have literally not played a single minute this season and Southgate would still have selected him, which is unacceptable in my view. Players should be selected on form and merit, not status and favouritism.
  6. Wow, well done lads. Hell of a result considering it was essentially our reserve team out there. Incredible pens as well.
  7. Yep, Roy was very much suited to the role of managing an underdog team. At clubs where there was high expectation he almost always underwhelmed - Rovers (at the time), Liverpool, England. People will point to Inter Milan but they were in a difficult period as well whilst he was there.
  8. Certainly a change of direction for Southampton after Hasenhuttl. I can only assume they're hoping Jones will be their Dyche, keeping them up through whatever means are necessary. Set pieces also brought up quite frequently as being an issue. Assume most of them aren't aware Mowbray isn't a fan of set piece training. Also chucking on a handful of attacking subs as his answer to chasing a game.
  9. Mowbray said they'd be fine without another striker when he joined, so maybe ask him. I'll defer to the Sunderland fans on this one, who are expecting a lot more than what they've seen so far.
  10. They're seeing their team rapidly regress, so obviously they're worried. It's gotten so bad that I actually read them saying, with all seriousness, that any potential success this season revolves around Corry Evans starting. Scary stuff if you're a Sunderland fan. Mowbray rocked up here just after we had been subjected to one of the worst managers in our history, Steve Kean aside. A bloke who thought five-a-sides and donut Thursdays were the key to success. It would have been almost impossible not to improve on that. By comparison, Alex Neil is a decent manager who had Sunderland on an upwards trajectory. Mowbray is taking on a very different task, and I don't think it's going to end well for him.
  11. He's a total natural. It was clear from his first match that he just gets it, and has the natural athleticism to perform at the same level as the pros. Unfortunate that he suffered some pretty bad injuries at Crown Jewel. Not sure when he'll be back.
  12. Yep, Mowbray had it good here - in every respect. A few grumblings on a message board were treated like an affront to his dignity by his numerous supporters, let alone anything being said at the ground where he had flags waving with his face imposed upon them. A truly bizarre cult of personality that I'm so glad is gone.
  13. Honestly not sure why you'd choose to park the bus against a team who can't recover from conceding the first goal. The only explanation is that they're so awful there's no other way for them to play - so hopefully we'll now bag a few as they'll have no choice but to come at us a little now.
  14. Whenever there's a weak league, and make no mistake this year it really is, we should make every effort to seize the opportunity as we'll never be up there with the real big spenders. It's easy to say we'll write this season off as a transition, but seeing how poor the standard is I would want us to make every effort to finish in the best possible position. If that comes at the expense of senselessly inverting our wing backs or not playing Vale/Hirst ever again then I can personally deal with that.
  15. We shouldn't still need to be doing that in November. JDT should be well aware of his best team and formation by now and only be making minor changes depending on injuries and general form.
  16. Maybe the midweek performance and result was the kick up the arse JDT needed, a realisation that even against the lesser teams in the league you can't fuck around with ridiculous experiments and get away with it.
  17. Really disappointed with AEW as of late. It's just become a total mess. A bloated roster, bad booking, ROH encroaching into AEW programming like an unwanted fungus... WWE meanwhile has improved a lot since Vince quit. Hardly a shock considering how backwards Vince's ideas had become, but I genuinely prefer WWE to AEW now, and I never thought I'd say that.
  18. It's been a problem for quite literally years now so almost certainly a mentality issue. Something that needs to be fixed within the squad from the Mowbray years, else those players will need to be replaced in the medium-to-long term as realistically we aren't going to get anywhere if we don't have the ability to gain points after conceding the first goal.
  19. Coming back from behind to win, what a novel concept. Even with 10+ minutes added on and with a man extra I'm sure we'd contrive to lose 3-1. Burnley will almost certainly get promoted from this very poor league, but they're certainly beatable if we bother to turn up and also manage to score first.
  20. I just got my PSVR2 pre-order email... £529, ouch. Feels like that price point may hinder sales, particularly with the economy in the state it's in right now. I have the original PSVR, picked it up essentially at launch back in 2016, but as it stands none of the games are compatible with PSVR2 so the library will have to be built from scratch. Some games will be ported, likely for free, but still... it's not like I even use my Quest 2 that much these days, even though it is awesome. If there was a way to pay in instalments I may consider it, but I don't think there is.
  21. It was similar under Mowbray in fairness. Seems like something that's just become ingrained into the team, particularly when it comes to going behind and failing to recover. It's a mindset that JDT and his staff need to fix, somehow. Sensible, consistent starting lineups would probably help.
  22. We'd be better off sticking Samba or Hendry themselves up front, frankly.
  23. Frankly even a 50% capable Dack is miles better than a 100% Vale or Hirst. Watford and Rotherham would probably be the other two matches where you could make a case. Three out of nineteen. Yet, we're second 🤷‍♂️
  24. Our performances this season have largely ranged from OK to terrible, so it is unusual to be 2nd. I can only assume it's the same for the rest of the league, and that inconsistency is rife. Fortunate for us I suppose. I can't really remember any truly outstanding performances under JDT so far. Maybe the 3-0 vs Swansea early on? Best I can recall off the top of my head.
