He's just not a very good player tbf, a shame we have almost no hope of moving him on.

Sounds like it's going well so far

Defence and midfield look okay (from a starting 11 perspective), front four... well, let's see. Hedges and Gallagher need to show much more than they did last season. We need BBD rather than BB, and Vale has to step up too. I'm certainly curious to see how it works out.

Yeah, have to say Huddersfield looked really, really poor. Even with their "better" second half performance they still only had two shots the entire match and not a single shot on target. At home that is pitiful regardless of the opponent. Can't read too much into first day results but the signs aren't good for them.

No idea what to expect today in all honesty. As long as we play a sensible formation, with players in their correct positions, come out looking energetic, focused and motivated then that'll do. It may take a few games for us to hit our stride and that's fine as long as there are positive signs on the pitch that we're moving in the right direction.

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?
DE. replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Idk, I think after the way Rothwell behaved on deadline day most people would have been happy to see the back of him. Can remember a fair few saying as much at the time. With that said, you're right that it would have been considered a factor in our post-Christmas demise, when in reality it would have been nothing to do with it. -

Lol, if this was the case there wouldn't be any bookies in existence. More often than not their odds are more or less accurate, which is why the house wins more often than it loses, but there will always be occasions when they screw up - for example BBD last season. -

We'll see how things pan out. Just saying that these lads have had to deal with playing under a club owned by Venky's for a long time and may no longer trust that the owners will ever get it right, even if they do appear on the surface to be moving in the right direction. Personally I can't blame them for that. I have no doubt money plays a part in it, probably a large part, but I do wonder how much more the likes of Boro could be offering Lenihan in comparison to whatever it is we were offering. -

Really disappointed. Understandable though with Rovers-tinted glasses removed. Ryan knows better than anybody here how the club runs and is operated. The fact he and Lenihan chose to leave in spite of the JDT new dawn suggests they still have huge doubts over the long-term ambition and viability of the club as a genuine promotion prospect - and after so many years of playing for a Venky's owned Rovers who can really blame them? It'll be interesting to see where he ends up and how he performs. Biggest question marks against him were his injury record and lack of assists. Curious to see if either will improve for him elsewhere. -
Good luck JDT and crew. Hard for me to feel optimistic about anything as long as we're owned by Venky's, but this is a change of pace at least.

Problem is every time Venky's make a catastrophic, two-fingers-up-at-the-fans decision it pushes more and more of our ambitious supporters away from the club. I'm guessing there was a significant aftershock from Coyle, and there would be again now if they made another ridiculous appointment. Eventually those fans who care about the club (as opposed to caring about being a fan of the club, which is a different and more insidious thing) wil be all-but-gone, and all you'll be left with is superfans arguing with each other over who is the best supporter and who can come up with the most excuses over the latest manager's failures.
-
No, not really. The owners and those working for them at Ewood should know exactly what the vision for the club is going forward. Candidates should be shortlisted on the basis of whether they have traditionally aligned to clubs with similar philosophies, and the interview should be about working out whether the club's vision and the propsective manager's methods will likely produce good results or whether the two are not well matched after all. The manager dictating the club's vision is exactly why we never get anywhere.
-
Why would you not want your club to aim high and be the best it can possibly be? It's amazing how having genuine ambition for the club is frowned upon by certain sections of the fanbase who seem to insist we should 'know our place' and be thankful for simply existing. Thankfully Jack never had that mindset. As for "a club in debt with limited funds", that basically describes the majority of the Championship, so not as big of a problem as it suggests. It does highlight why having a manager who can get the absolute best out of a team, making them better than the sum of their parts, is crucial to success though. Hopefully one day we'll appoint somebody with that ability.

Premier League season 21/22
DE. replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Hard to understand why Viera has been lauded recently for taking Palace to 13th. Could finish 14th by the end of the season, which would be exactly the same position they finished last season and the season before. Hardly a revelation. Lose tonight and they've actually won less games than Everton this season. Burnley or Leeds to drop. Tough games on paper for both on Sunday, so could go either way. -
Huge 45 for Leeds. Lose today and I think they're gone.

Problem is we were only better than any of the teams above us for a couple of months. Before November we were no better, and after January we were quite literally the worst team in a division devoid of any real quality outside of Fulham. In a way I'm thankful we didn't get top six, as there's no way we would have gotten promoted via the playoffs and it could have extended Mowbray's agonising tenure. Dropping out of contention entirely with such an abysmal run of form made the decision obvious to anybody with the club's best interests at heart. Unfortunately that doesn't include the owners, who are worryingly tasked with the next hire.
