And yet it is still open. They havent given up and taken the easy option. They want to try and turn it around.
-
Burnley go with the same team whether they are playing Bournemouth or Man City and it tends to work for them. When they got out of this league they used the same players and system every week. We need an identity and consistency and the way to get that it to settle on a system and preferred XI.

Which is the John Lewis suite?
-
Arsenal and United two of the biggest guilty parties. Frequently thousands of empty seats especially in cup games yet announce full houses.
-
Fernhurst across the road. Brewers Fayre or whatever it is at Lower Darwen. 150,000 on the doorstep. Why did Fylde bother opening their restaurant and bar in a field on the outskirts of Kirkham?
-
See above. Its overpriced and rubbish. Put what people want on at a decent price and I might, though I don't live in the Blackburn conurbation so probably not.
-
Perhaps people don't go in because it is overpriced and rubbish? Plenty of places open in Blackburn. If it was as bad as you make out there would be no shops or restaurants open all week. I just hope you don't bring up FFP rules as an excuse for the club in the near future. Generating non matchday income is an essential part of avoiding FFP issues and we ain't going to do that by closing everything down.
-
Why not just close the whole club down then. Blackburn's dead, nobody has any money, can't run a bar/cafe/restaurant during the week, let's just shut the whole lot down and save everyone money.

Rovers v Burnley Under 23's

Waggott can't be trusted to give a straight answer. More interested in having an easy day at the office than ensuring more fans can go and watch. What's the point in a football club again? -
No I very rarely go in and rarely buy any food or drink from the club outlets. I'm a real ale drinker and don't like being ripped off. So I won't be paying £4 or whatever it is for a pint of Fosters or John Smiths. They could relaunch the Blues Bar. Change the name. Call it the 'Rovers Return' and refurbish it to give it a 'real ale pub' style feel. If worried about changing habits then what is popular at the moment? Real ale rather than keg beer. Traditional decor and furniture, cask ales on tap, pub grub at sensible prices e.g. not £15 for burger and chips. Sheffield Wednesday did it at Hillsborough and opened the 'Hillsborough Tap'. Give season ticket holders the option of membership for an extra £10 a year. Membership gets you 2 pints per game at a reduced price. Get people into the habit of going in. Market it to local businesses as a place to get a decent lunch during the week. Put a quiz on one night. Too much effort though. Just close it.
-
Charge London prices in Blackburn you won't get people buying when there's a plethora of alternatives within a short walk. Accy Stanley sussed that one out a while ago and hey presto its £1 a pint.
-
Its got nothing to do with changing habits. As @Mattyblue correctly points out non league minnows like AFC Fylde have built a ground in a field near the motorway yet have a smart Sports Bar open 7 days a week bringing money in for the club. The reality is that like everything else at Rovers it has been left to rot for years then shut down because it doesn't make money. Apply the same principle to the town centre store/cafe, legends lounge. Expect the club shop to be next - only open on matchdays. The truth is that it follows everything else at Rovers. If it costs money do away with it rather than work out why it isn't working and turn it around. Take the easy money saving option. Clubs up and down the country have spent the last 20 years desperately trying to redevelop their stadia to obtain the sort of facilities we have to enable them to generate non matchday income and we are going against the flow by shutting things down and not using what we've got. One of the first things Waggott reckoned he was going to bring to this club as CEO was using Ewood on non matchdays and generating extra revenues. How's that working out now?

Rovers v Burnley Under 23's

I heard the same. I don't know what planet some people are on to come up with a suggestion that season ticket holders of 30 years without 1875 membership wouldnt be allowed on but someone who had never been to Ewood before could pay £15 for membership and get in. Typical approach of treat your bread and butter dyed in the wool attendees like rubbish. -

Its just to minimize the number of people who see the lesser spotted Gladwin in action. -
Like most of the rest of the clubs in this division our ground was built for Premier League football. So outside the Premier League it is always going to be 'too big'. So are Hillsborough, St Andrew's, Riverside, Stadium of Light etc. The problem isnt our ground. It is that we are in the wrong division and are failing when it comes to growing our fanbase or even ensuring it stands still. If we had a 20,000 stadium and got back to the Premier League it would be too small. At the very least it should be 25,000 or so like Wigan, Bolton, Fulham. We are a bigger club than Burnley or Preston as evidenced by the dingles failing to fill 19,000 home seats in their heyday.
-
I see the club have announced that the Blues Bar will cease to open each day and instead will be just matchday and functions. Anyone heard any more about this? I assume just another Waggott cut and downsizing job. Surely in an era of Ffp and non matchday income this sort of thing is important? I was told previously that the Blues Bar was run separately to the club e.g. wasnt covered by Northcote and that was why they could charge sensible(ish) prices for food and drink.
-
Because we are bigger
-
Burnley's heap holds more than 21,000 so ours should be comfortably bigger.
-
Also blows Waggott's theory out the water that we charged Sheffield Wednesday high prices because that's what they charge our fans. Tickets at Birmingham this season I recall were quite reasonable so for us to make it a Category A game is appalling. As admirable as it is charging £10 v Wigan the very fact it is a night game on 23rd December on Sky tv (which Rovers have reminded people of on their website) ensures that the numbers will be less than for a Saturday game not on tv.

Why has the club not advertised or promoted this game at any stage during the last two home games? -
I think we are giving the owners an enormous slice of the benefit of the doubt if we say they are invested in some sort of project, have targets and are monitoring Mowbray's progress and have expectations he has to deliver on. Reading between the lines the only pressure Mowbray is under is from himself and the fans and perceived pressure from upstairs which probably never manifests itself into anything but rumours. Personally I think it is clear Venkys like him and that's all there is to it. As long as they continue to like him and trust him then he will be safe. I think they would sit back and allow relegation before making a change or at least let things get to a point of no return like when Coyle was here. I doubt they knew we were playing last night and probably won't even think about Rovers until Mowbray next makes the effort to fly to their house and force them to talk about things. At least this time around we've actually got a manager who can be trusted in place although anyone hoping that there is some sort of conventional structure here and a review after results I think are wrong.

Bad result for the 'pride of Lancashire' on Lancashire Day. Against a Yorkshire club too.... -

They are trying to ensure the game passes with minimal publicity. There's been no mention of it at Ewood before, during or after the Barnsley and Brentford games. Then they wonder why nobody turns up. They'll be quick to report on it if we win but for now they'll be praying that only a couple of hundred turn up. 1pm on a Friday, no publicity and tickets required to get in - all to try and put people off going. Congratulations because I think they've managed it with me and no doubt many others who would have been there if it wasnt in the middle of a working day. -
Brentford (h) - the Mowbray love in!
JHRover replied to MCMC1875's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Feel much better tonight after a good win and good performance. Despite the win on Saturday there was a lot to be concerned about. Tonight was a dramatic turnaround with what I feel was the best team performance of the season. A huge effort from all the team. Could have been more comfortable but we defended well. Thought the referee was a disgrace. I'm not getting into the managerial debate as one swallow does not make a summer. He got it right tonight and deserves credit. The key is to find a way to build on this rather than go back to the dreariness of the season so far. Points up for grabs in games v struggling Stoke and Derby. -

I'm not after superman. Just someone who can progress the team and make a few decent signings.
