My great uncle Albert Walmsley would be another (played in I think the 1920s) and a former works team mate of mine Pete Devine played a few first team games for the Rovers as well.
There were two separate minutes' silence. One for VE Day and one for Noel Brotherston, who had tragically died a few days earlier. You could hear a pin drop during both of them, which when you consider the cauldron the atmosphere was that night, was incredible, and a testament to the 30,000 in attendance. I've always respected the Geordies since that night.
I seem to recall that it was indeed Bill Fox. Franz Carr was selected as an apprentice at Ewood ahead of my younger brother, Rovers only took one or two on every year at that time and they could only afford one that season. Franz’s dad was a bit pushier than mine!
(joking apart Franz was an exceptional player at 16 and even our kid understood why he’d been selected).
