  1. Football is - and always will be - a simple game Tony. I've never been able to get my head around this 'false nine' stuff. In my day if I had a fast strike partner I would simply play five or ten yards closer to the half way line and drag the centre half or halves out with me, leaving a lovely gap for my teammate to exploit. And if they didn't follow me out, I was the one with plenty of space to do what I wanted with the ball then. Its hardly a rocket science playing up front.
  2. Looks like we might have climbed a place today without kicking a ball, great result for Boro at Millwall, that!
  3. I'll link the last two together just to tidy things up a bit (and get another song by The Jam in there!) The Jam - The Place I Love
  4. Aye its likely to be a stop-start afternoon, if we are lucky to even get that. Typical....
  5. Yes - this is what I have been wondering as well. E.g. when I heard that Downing at 36 would be looking for £20k a week (and I know this is just speculation) I thought to myself "Who on earth is going to pay that in this climate?"
  6. I was under the impression that they (the owners) had actually invested in the academy?
  7. Great winning goal by Arma. Very similar to the one the Southampton lad scored against City the other day. Didn’t see enough of the game to pass comment really but sounded like a typical Rovers “good performance when it doesn’t really matter”.
  8. In Scotland, if you're an old firm manager you either win the league or you don't. That's all I meant really, I don't get hung up on minutiae and wasn't doing a statistical comparison of the two of them. Gerrard has failed. Same as Mowbray did. He only has one job and that is to finish above Celtic, and as soon as Rangers got close to them this season they nosedived. Sound familiar?
  9. I was a huge admirer of him as a player, but I wouldn't touch Gerrard with a barge pole. Most of us on this message board could have had Rangers finishing second in that league with the resources and support that he's had. Funnily enough Mowbray had a similar record while at Celtic in the same league.
  10. Sometimes it just feels the right time to part company, and sadly we have come to that time with Tony. I say sadly because I suspect that in 20 years we will view his tenure through a different lens and see that he did actually do more for this club than currently meets the eye. Thanks Tony and cheerio.
  11. I missed out the bit at the beginning and end of my post “Dear Lord, please ensure”.......”Amen”??
  12. Tony is going to do the right thing and hand his notice in tonight.
  13. None of the people involved in that goal should be on the park (for different reasons)
  14. Klich should have been off there with a second yellow for kicking the ball away. Soft yes but yet another example of poor reffing.
