  2. Oh I wasn’t questioning that at all mate, it’s just I know the other Ian Gillibrand and was just pointing out the coincidence of two blokes with the same name living in such close proximity to each other.
  3. That means there were two Ian Gillibrands lived within yards of each other (the other was in Kingston Place and still very much alive and aged about 60)
  4. One of those rare Rovers players that a lot of local folk will have played with and against as well. Mecky played for (I think) Feniscowles in the West Lancs League after he retired as a pro and also in the Orphanage Cup well into his 40s. A brilliant player and a fantastic bloke too. Terrible news this. RIP Mecky ?x
  5. Awful, awful news ???
  6. The Beatles - Free As a Bird
  7. But we weren’t talking about Botham the Somerset player - we were talking about Botham the England player. There are probably Lancs members that wonder what all the fuss is about in relation to Jimmy Anderson or before him Mike Atherton. You are obviously entitled to your opinion but at some point you should probably concede that you are very much in a minority on this one mate.

  16. My tuppence worth on the Botham argument. He won cricket matches single handedly, often against the odds against our greatest rival, just when we needed him. He would feature in most people’s greatest-ever England team I would imagine. That makes him a great of the game. Sir Vivian Richards knows what a great cricketer is, as does Allan Border. Without Botham I very much doubt there would have been a Freddie Flintoff and maybe not even a Ben Stokes, who are the two most comparable England players to the great man since he retired. To suggest Botham isn’t an all-time great all rounder because some modern players have better stats than him is a bit odd to be honest, especially when said poster claims to have seen a lot of him. Botham put bums on seats all over the world.

  22. He certainly did in his first spell, he usually had a shocking pair of grey undies on! Though I seem to recall Kenny or Ray asked him to stop doing it when we reached the prem? Edit - posted this before I saw @tomphil’s similar reply.
  23. I can honestly say when he was at Ewood its the first and only time i have ever felt like encroaching onto the pitch and twatting someone. Even Coyle didn't wind me up as much as Kean. My ex brother-in-law coached him as a young player at Celtic and remembered him as being a gobshyte even then. I wonder if his dog is still alive.
  24. The Beatles - Revolution 9
