The January 2026 Transfer Window
Lancaster Rover replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
We’re all forgetting the one factor that makes Rovers think they are the ones to defy business/football logic - the arrogance of Gestede and Pasha. They’ll believe they’ve unearthed a gem and can swipe him from ‘lowly’ Barnsley for peanuts. Not realising that the lad os being watched by virtually every championship club and Barnsley are well aware of his market value and value to them. Like any well run club have him tied to a sensible contract. Leaving the ball very much in their court with all the negotiating power -
Painful Acceptance

I think this sums up the feelings of a large number of Rovers fans these days, myself included. It’s just not fun anymore. I don’t hate the team, if anything I feel sorry for them. They’re trying their best but due to being in positions above their ability and the complete lack of support from those in positions of power they’re hung out to dry. I hate what the club has become and no longer recognise it as ‘my’ Rovers. People may say they can never take Rovers away from us, they have. This is a sad version of a once proud and successful club. That bears no resemblance to anything that has gone before -
Valérien Ismaël: Former Head Coach

Still no closer to knowing what our style of play or identity is. 12 months in and for large parts of most games we look as clueless as his first game against Norwich, where we contrived to make Shane Duffy look like beckenbaur. -

Because the championship, whilst exciting isn’t a particularly good league technically. If you’re fit, organised and have a goalscorer you’ll do well -

Baradji and Henrikksson look an excellent pairing to be honest. -

God that was awful from Doherty, the centre half closing him late opened the space perfectly to roll it across. That was the only decision that could be made -

That is such an awful decision to shoot. -

One of the more important differences between Toth and Pears is the speed with which Toth distributes the ball. Night and day between the two keepers -

But the EFL, FA and refs hate us…….. -
McInnes is a good manager (for a rangers man). The SPL produces some good managers but they get looked down on from down south. Jens Askou is a fantastic coach at Motherwell, but can guarantee his name won’t be on many fans lips

Not to defend SG or MG but it would be fair to give some consideration to minutes as a sub and those of a starter, in addition how many sub appearances were in winning or losing positions at the time of coming on. -

I'd be incredibly surprised if we brought in a striker, they command a higher fee than any other position and they've already outlayed on Andri this year. -

Is anyone actually sure what Ismael does want? We have the most thrown together group of players I've seen in my many years of supporting Rovers. For all the talk of projects, systems there is absolutely nothing in what we've bought thus far that resembles a semblance of a plan or identity. Unless of course we're just collecting 5'9 number 10's who play out wide. -
There was one reverse pass he played first time around the 60th minute that was incredible, it was almost too good as the forward made a total dogs dinner of it as they were so surprised it came to them. Even at that level Whartons vision catches teammates out
-
As I've said many times half my family are Celtic fans so I go up a fair amount. The thing is with Nancy, like Amorim he's tried to play a system (3-4-3) that is can be complex at the best of times with the right players. Celtic currently do not have a single full back who can play wing back in the club, when Scales is fit, all the back 3 are left footed and add in to that we sold our only 2 strikers in Kyogo and Idah. It's been an awful appointment from start to finish and whilst I think the guy is a total dud, he has been totally set up to fail given the board knew the system he wanted to play and the players he had at his disposal.
-
I said between the north west clubs, if you look at the selections for England age groups teams in both boys and girls they're heavily weighted toward top 6 clubs in the PL. Case in point re that, on the folding of Rovers Ladies, two U17's (who had never received England call ups) moved to Chelsea and City respectively, within 3 weeks of being there they're both in the national set up
-
I've said this before but Pasha's line about the academy not knowing he was that good is absolute tosh, from U14 onwards everyone knew he was a joke of a player and was talked about across north west academies as the next big. It's just another lie from Pasha.

It's slim pickings as a 2, you'd have to be looking at McLoughlin and O'Riordan I think. We may as well count Wharton and Carter out for the season at this stage such is their (unfortunate) injury history. Sadly neither of their bodies is capable of having a system built around them. -

This is the thing that confuses me most. Ismael was reticent to move to a 3 back when it looked fairly obvious to everyone that it was a sensible move and now is absolutely wedded to it when a 4 would be much more natural given the players available. I'd need to look it up but I don't think he's a 3-4-3 die hard in his career -

We’re also terrible on set pieces so it’s a bit of a waste trying to draw fouls -

I’m fairly confident he had a hand in them all going. He’s the regimes man, otherwise why would he still be in a job. He’s complicit, of that there is no doubt -

Unless he’s signalled he can’t continue it’s a strange sub, looks one of the few players capable of making something happen -

He’s done well there to anticipate the drop and attack the space they’d left open
