  1. speedie has a point, absence makes the heart and all that. Not that England are closer to me than Rovers but they do seem a lot closer to my heart than they used to.
  2. I think I would add Glenn Hoddle to that list, but as is the FA they sack him for stupid words rather than football related matters. In the limited amount of games I saw England under Hodd they looked decent and filled me with high hopes and the promise of a bright future. Or was that in a previous life? heh heh. Let's not forget too what a good job Joe Mercer did as caretaker one time, wish he could have got it full time.
  3. I would agree with that choice, was on my mind this morning. The man clearly has an knack for bringing through good young talent. As for Big Sam, would inspire some passion but I am not convinced he has the tactical ability. As for Gerrard not performing, I had mentioned elsewhere if you don't have true confidence in what the boss is telling you it's highly unlikely you will put in a best effort, I feel that may have been the case with a lot of the players and McClaren. Still as the captain it's up to him to sort that out with the boss. I am also becoming suspicious of this whole "International Break" thing. While it is good to be able to work with the players for a time I wonder if it is seen by the players as just that, a break. A bit of a holiday camp, players get in a bit of a relaxed state without the day to day pressure and focus of the Prem and it is hard to just switch it back on.
  4. Someone here said The FA should be gone too, I totally agree. It's time for a total revamp from the TOP DOWN. Let's get some real footy people in there, who? no idea. I can only see more of the same sameness in the appointment of the next English manger. Footballing knowledge and tactical nous run a poor second and third on their list of requirements.
  5. All well and good, but if you play goalie you will understand the most basic rule of goalkeeping, get your body behind the ball and he did not. He had plenty of time to adjust his feet to.
  6. Spot on. HEre's the real disgrace, the most of the country did not want McClown, the people that support the game for who in some cases it is their life, their passion, but the FA thought they knew better. Is it an ego thing?
  7. Sorry mate, and don't take this personal, but you simply have not been paying attention. It will not be because of a UK thing, it will be because O'Neill is the sort of character the FA likes. PC, steady with the media, won't ruffle any feathers. Best man out there for the job not by a long shot but is the closest to meeting the most important criteria for our FA, does not make waves, not controversial. However he IS 10x better than that idiot McClaren.
  8. Garbage, I knew from the offset McClaren could not guide England to the Euro's and I knew we could not win that game. I'll be over it quickly now, it's next Summer it really starts to set in. Long ball England. No inventiveness, no nous, no nothing we tried going long and over the top and Craoia's defence ate it up, our only decent cross from wide and we score. Embarrassed to be an England fan, again.
  9. SWP hasn't done very well in that aspect lately either but I see he is starting. PLonker.
  10. Someone who has an open and demonstrative passion for the game also. Oh and the talk of Alan Shearer as England boss is just plain ridiculous
  11. Spot on Mum, the players look more like it's a pain in the ass to have to bother themselves with England duty now. The old Emlyn Hughes statement way back when, when the players were haggling over appearance money. I believe Emlyn said, " I would crawl up Wembley Way on my hands and knees to play for England for nothing" Now THAT is what it should be about.
  12. See this is the problem, while I was one of the people backing the selection of Martin O Neill over McClown I don't fancy him for the job now. He's not done enough at Villa to convince me he is the right man for the job. BUT he has the credentials for the England job, in otherwords he's a nice bloke, mild mannered and politically correct. It's pretty much the way England have selected their bosses for all time now. It's not just Barwick, it's been the case all along. We need to toss the PC requirement and have us a fireball, job is crying out for Mourihno it really is, we need a radical change of direction at the FA. Best England manager in semi recent history for me was Hoddle and he was canned for a silly mouth. Nowt to do with footy really. When I watched Hoddles England play in the World Cup I thought we were destined for big things. We looked good and the team had youth right through it, I really thought we had a chance to return to the top, well it all got wasted. Listen to us, already assuming qualification because we only need a point, we are not there yet.
  13. As somone who has had a dislike fo rthe Haggis munchers for all time I have to say they can be proud of their team, I think they can hold their heads higher than we can. There's no shame in goin out in a group that has the World Cup winners and runners up in it. Well done sweaties, your still a bunch of sheeper shaggers though
  14. Oh buggar there goes my whole conspiracy theory. I was looking forward to some juicy scandal debate. Thanks Israel for at least making the game on Wednesday interesting.
  15. Like I said we have no chance of beating Croatia, heh heh too excited I suppose. Is this really a full effort by Israel they do look a little lack lustre, when Russia score again will the conspiracy theories begin?
  16. No, the goal was for hiding the brown bag, for appearances only . See how much room Israel are allowing now. The Ruskis will win. If for some reason they don't win, England have no chance of beating Croatia anyway. I just watched an archive of England v Scotland on Fox, the difference in the passion and pride of teh English players then to now was glaringly obvious.
  17. No Rev you are wrong. WE are paying for it, they clearly don't give a toss about who can get the best results for England, they never have, it infuriates me. THE FA should be cleared out and re-vamped with people who have a real passion for the game, bloody hell a comittee of fans would do a better job I'm sure. I am absolutely furious with this lot at the FA, about 98% of the Country's footy fans did not want McClaren, why? we knew better what do they do appoint the meek mannered under the desk head bobbing yes man.
  18. What a joke, the best performances, the ones prior to Russia, we have seen from England in recent years is when McClarens team selection was forced due to injuries. Had we not had the injuries we did we would have already been confirmed as out of the tournament.
  19. Then why was he a Footballer and not a Porn Star?
  20. And that Rev is the proverbial nail on the head. If Jose wanted the job the FA would never appoint him, he speaks his mind and the chicken crap mo fo's at the FA just can't handle that. England are an embarassment, it's not just McClaren it's the big time charlie players, it's why we dropped the valuable points against the lesser teams, no heart, no pride. PLaying for England is just a pain in the ass for a lot of 'em. They expected to just walk over the likes of Macedonia. I wish I had put my money where my mouth was. Not qualifying, as I said from the start, was expected on my part.
  21. I thought Benni had retired from International footy a while back.?
  22. OUtstanding stuff Whittle. Great finisher, and thanks to your compilation we can see he also had some Beamoesque qualities. Thanks again Whittle. Emigrating here I missed he best years so quite appreciative of what youv'e done here Whittle. I like the player profile article,, FAVOURITE DRINK - TEA, bloody liar.
  23. Isn't there a differnet format ofr the DVD's from UK to here. Dr Ryan I have a video of the 5-0 Derby Demolition
  24. I've told you, it's a ploy by the press to get him out of Blackburn ASAP.
  25. I'm just really happy he is over his crappy attitude phase, a terrific player with sublime skills and a real eye for goal. By god though he was infuriating me with those pre Mourinho sacking performances, glad that's all put to bed now
