  1. But Travis didn’t start that way. He was a front foot run at them player. Mowbray told him he needed to watch smallwood and evans. Now that is where we are.
  2. But it’s not Gallagher brereton Chapman Armstrong etc it’s the use of them. He needed to strengthen that defence and he didn’t. No problem we’ll play on the front use our attacking strength. No we don’t. Every manager has a shelf life and his has arrived
  3. This could be a case of the Peter principle being applied to Venus. He is not competent in his current post but rather than remove him apply the lateral arabesque method to get him out of the way. ie move him sideways and give him a longer job title.
  4. I’m assuming this is just personal opinion because the facts don’t support that assertion at all. Facts collated in july 2019 points collected in the premier league blackburn rovers 11th most successful Number of seasons spent in the premiership blackburn rovers 12th in the table average points per game in the premiership blackburn rovers 1.39 8th most successful. One of only a handful of premiership winners. The facts suggest we are more than capable of holding our own and I havent even started on the long roll call of our history. Not least the 7th most successful club decade on decade. The way out of this league is by getting the right manager, not one way but the only way. I’m sick of hearing about this club being big and that club being a giant in comparison to us. We are has good has anyone in this league and has big if not bigger in terms of success but we need to start believing that. Unfortunately the guy at the helm appears to want us to believe that mediocrity should be acceptable. Well it’s not.
  5. Mahoney is playing for Millwall. That is right isn’t it?
  6. The radio commentators described him as the fulcrum of the team.
  7. Exactly would have Gallagher or Bereton everyday of the week. Joao was a lazy arse when here. It appears Reading fans think the same. Attitude before apptitude at this level every time. The option with players like joao is one good game in ten or a player like Gallagher who works his socks off every game. Apparently when Mowbray took over him and Emenes turned up late for the game and where sent out of the team talk. Did they care no laughing in the corridor. He reminds me of the bad days when you looked at our players and it made you embarrassed. Waste of time and space and in reality not that good. I’m at a loss how anyone could find anything positive to say without a short memory.
  8. I heard a group of adults not teenagers making donkey noises every time Gallagher touched the ball. First game of the season. Strange.
  9. Lewis holtby would be a great signing and the fact is you can never have enough quality. To get us up it’s not only what you put out has a first eleven but the quality of the replacements. If he’s available and he wants to come let’s get him in and worry who gets pushed where later
  10. The new style appears to be tedious passing. Millwall have fallen into the Mowbray trap and are doing the same. I blame both brexit and global warming. maybe it’s a venky thing and I bet it’s tax deductible. Not that I have any accountant qualifications.
  11. Football commentators who try and make poor games seem exciting. Sky’s obsession with certain clubs Liverpool, Leeds and soon to be Salford. Football experts who make you switch off namely Danny Murphy and Gary linekar. Picking referees decisions apart to th nth degree and critizing marginal decisions. The farce that is VAR. Fleecing the punters loyalty in all its form. The premier league for its continued destruction of the rest of English football.
  12. Has he really talked about chemistry. Wonder which one is for the chop
  13. Those good runs weren’t ignored Mowbray and his team were award long term contracts. He has already been shown the rewards for getting the job done in exactly the same environment so that cant be used has a get out clause for bad results. If he thought it was to difficult an environment to work he shouldn’t have taken the contract. Ojectively good results bring rewards in the form of long term contracts bad results bring the opposite ( 17 from19). I unfortunately have little sympathy he knows the rules has had the resources at his disposal and if he fails he is solely responsible. Im not an expert but has an observer a starting point would to get that defence organised and put in place a playing style that gets the best from the players available. Has a side note Bennett is not a defender or an on the field captain and that is a definitel
  14. Positives first game and still transfer window left to make the defensive changes needed. Having had a day to reflect and take on other people’s observations. I feel a little sorry for Bennett who is a standard championship midfielder who I suspect out of a desire to serve the team and Mowbray is being repeatedly asked to do a job he is not capable of. His commitment can’t be questioned but Mowbray should do better by him because in repeatedly picking a solid championship midfielder at right back the crowd has turned on Bennett who is just doing his best. Mulgrew is a midfielder by trade who unfortunately is at this level past his sell by date. For me boro at home and the bouncing ball was the final straw. Bell is league one he lacks vision. There was a point yesterday in the first half he was in acres of space and all he needed to do was roll the ball wide but he dithered and lost possession. That leaves lenihan who I can’t or won’t past judgment on due to what’s around him. Mowbray is a strange one. He on the one hand recognises the need for change then doesn’t do it. Its an anomaly and I find it impossible to answer. If he was the manager of any business and he saw the weakness common sense says change it. I don’t have an answer statistically our defence was appalling last season. He says that is not the problem. Coventry’s defence appalling and a recognition after the event change was needed. Its not even that I have a desire for the worlds greatest defenders. Competent would be ok lets see what this week brings. Probably 3 more attackers
  15. This post sums it up in a nutshell and I don’t believe it’s venkies he’s just to loyal to players that need moving on, Thats why he’s not a winner he believes his role is to create a happy dressing room not a winning mentality. Success requires ruthlessness and in our leader it’s just not there.
  16. I always look at your posts with the up most respect for your knowledge and objectivity. For me however mediocrity is unacceptable Particularly if it’s compounded by Managerial incompetency Mulgrew is and never was a championship standard defender. Bennett is at best an average championship midfielder and would be ok from the bench but to shoehorn him to any position particularly at right back in exchange for nyambe is an odd decision and that is just to be polite amari bell league one at a maximum. The reality is Mowbray is a nice chap but we are drifting into an acceptance of mediocrity. The team is better than he makes it and even when he recognises a weakness he doesnt change it. I’m just fed up of watching what was served up today. It lacks passion and defensively it’s inept. He says its not the players and to confirm this he picks the same guys every week. Therefore it’s either the coaching or the managers team selection/formation both are his responsibility. If he continues down the current projectory he will not make Christmas. This would be my suggestion drop mulgrew bennet and bell and buy/ loan replacements and do that ASAP or your out of a job
  17. I’ve not read any off the post to prevent being influenced Really poor a repeat of most of last season. Slow and ponderous going foward. Not able to defend, The whole four of our defence need replacing. Lenihan best of a bad bunch. im not bothered about Mowbrays dressing room. He will not last till Christmas if he doesn’t sort our that defence. finally on a side note he has spoilt Travis as a player now side to side no driving runs. I assume like reed he had to learn from Evans and Smallwood. really disappointing
  18. I’m not sure on ability or Blackpool but one thing I can say about him he does know where the net is. I can’t guarantee it but I feel you maybe a bit off the mark
  19. He is limited but the one thing with him he knows where the net is. He may not do the fancy stuff but has a poacher he is in the right place at the right time consistently and that can’t be trained
  20. Yeah you’ve gotta love him. He clearly has a mentally image of his lads that bears no resemblance to reality. Unless he sorts that defence out for real and not in fantasy world we could be in serious trouble.
  21. I completely agree but they are clubs making money from the loan system while buying the finished article for their first team. We on the other hand invest in the academy to produce players for our team. I feel we are not in a position to see players like Buckley, butterworth and Costello trundle around league one to satisfy a development formula. In the end posters on here have suggested they have the apptitude to be championship players. Only exposure to championship football will show if they have the attitude ( Travis as an example). Some will pass the test and some will fail but for me this is about Blackburn rovers football club not about nurturing. These are young men and football is there chosen profession. They need to be on the pitch for us and I can bet you that if they where asked they would agree. To succeed in any field requires risk. Wolves money, sheff Utd style of play. We have neither of them but we have youth and that is our risk. I feel this season we are at a crossroads. We can purse a policy of safety first or we can give youth a chance. I’m not sure which way we will go. One certainly condemns is to mid table mediocrity the other gives us a chance of greater things Over to you Tony
