AFC Bournemouth v ROVERS
Ewood Ace replied to blueboy3333's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
A common theme with all 3 late goals that we have conceded are that they all came from set pieces. It's clear that we lack a dominant centre back to win the ball in the air and to get us organised from set pieces. Even going back to the last season the late goal's conceded at Bristol Rovers & Rotherham came from set pieces. -

Disappointed for Travis, I really don't understand why he wasn't loaned out. Good to see Brereton and Rodwell starting. -

I'd be looking at resting a few for this considering the tough run of games we have had. I wouldn't even bother taking Graham and Dack I'd let them stay back and rest for Saturday. I think Evans and Smallwood could also do with a break given the ground that they have covered in the last week. I will be also nice to see what some of the players on the edge of the first team have to offer. One person I really hope plays is Lewis Travis as I worry about his progress at the moment as he isn't even getting much game time, I can't help but thinking that he would have been better of going out on loan. Leutwiler Travis Downing Rodwell Williams Bennett Rothwell Armstrong Palmer Conway Brereton Subs:Raya, Bell, Lenihan, Nyambe, Smallwood, Reed, Nuttall -
ROVERS VS STOKE CITY
Ewood Ace replied to Dreams of 1995's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
For the first 80 minutes as good as we have performed for many years. Fantastic work rate and commitment all over the pitch along with some quality in the final third. Evans excellent again, Smallwood appears to be finding his feet now at Championship level. Bennett and Reed didn't stop running all day. Dack and Graham provided the quality in the class and quality final third, Graham I though was exceptional and has put any doubts that I had about his fitness to bed. The final 15 should never have been so tense as we were in complete control. As soon as they got one back we looked a nervous wreck, we've got to get better at seeing games out as at the moment we look like rabbits in the headlights. Bell I thought was having his best game yesterday but again he switched of and it cost us a goal, to often he seems to just lose concentration. Also Tony's final two subs yesterday were bizarre, at Ipswich he took Dack and Graham of which left us with nothing up top and he did the same today. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with Dack and say he was injured but why take Graham of he was exceptional yesterday and gave us a real outlet to build of and I'm not sure what Armstrong offers in yesterdays situation. -

Blimey he's only been here for three games. And why is he ineligible to play against Stoke?

And Canelo still got a draw on one of the judges cards against Mayweather. If Canelo's fights had been judged properly he would have 4 defeats to his name rather than just the one. He lost the first GGG fight 117-111 in my opinion and lost 116-112 on Sunday in my opinion. He was very lucky to get a decision against Lara who I thought beat him and it certainly was not a 117-111 fight as one judge scored it. Even the Khan fight, which Khan should have been ahead comfortably on the cards at the time of the stoppage yet Canelo was ahead on the cards.

Derby vs Rovers post match thread
Ewood Ace replied to J*B's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Not easy on the eye but an excellent battling away point and a very professional performance. The whole defence was excellent, I thought we would miss Mulgrew but Williams proved a more than able deputy. Smallwood and Evans' work rate was fantastic as was Bennett's and Reed when they came on. The only two negatives were that I thought Armstrong really struggled again and Raya's kicking was bloody awful again. -
Derby County vs Rovers, Tues 18th Sept
Ewood Ace replied to Mike E's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Williams Reed Evans Bennett Dack Palmer Brereton Subs:Leutwiler, Bell, Rothwell, Smallwood, Graham, Armstrong, Travis I think Reed deserves a start after an impressive cameo in Saturday. I'd bring Palmer in for Armstrong as one he may have a point to prove against Derby and two Armstrong just looks to lightweight at the moment. Given Graham played the whole game Saturday I would say it is very unlikely he will start this one so lets see what Brereton can do starting in his favoured role. A shame I had to leave Rothwell out but away from home where we are likely to have less possession I've gone with Bennett for his extra work rate. -
Bell vs Williams
Ewood Ace replied to Give 'Em the Axe's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I think Williams get a harsh time on here, he's a solid full back defensively and make a some goals going forward. Bell had probably his best performance for us against Villa, but to me he just seems a bit dozy and has too may lapses in concentration, also when going forward he seems afraid to cross the ball instead he stops his runs and come back inside. For me Williams would be my first choice as he from what I have seen from Bell so far Williams if better defensively and going forward. -

Liked the look of Reed, hard working and unlike the likes of Bennett, Smallwood and Evans he offered something going forward as well. Armstrong looked very lightweight again, he's going to need to toughen up if he is going to make it at this level. Thought Nyambe was excellent again up against some top players as well. Bell was improved on his last performance, but wish he would cross the ball more when he gets forward instead of stopping and coming back inside. -

Where else was he going to put the ball to score he was hardly going to put it in the opposite corner, if Raya's positioning is better than he saves it. Merely stating my opinion. -

I'd look more at the goalkeeper that's the second time he has cost us 3 points in the 90th minute now. -

Said it before say it again Raya is an overrated goalkeeper. Cost us a number of points already this season. -

The thing with Bennett is that he will do a job and put in a shift wherever he plays but I'm not sure that when everyone is fit that he is our best player in any one position. He's a sort of jack of all trades master of none -

Mowbray does have a strange view on wingers it seems that he will play anybody out there except proper natural wide men. Recently Palmer and Rothwell have played there both have played the bulk of their careers centrally, Bennett is playing there this season but all his best performances for us have been playing central, Armstrong and Samuel have played wide despite playing their careers as strikers. Last season Antonsson who played all his career as a striker was played out wide and at home to Oldham last year even Bell had a go as a winger. The only winger we have had over the last year was Chapman and he was used rather sparingly by Mowbray.
-
Not sure I'd class Armstrong as a artist, his record in the Championship is not as good as Palmer's and on today's basis if he is going to play in his preferred position (through the middle) then he is going to have to bulk up too many times today he was eased of the ball. And playing 4-2-3-1 as we do if your midfield 2 do their job then you can have an attacking front 4. I'd personally when all fit like to see Palmer, Dack and Rothwell in the 3 positions behind Graham.
-
I'd say we don't have enough players like him of the starting 11 today he was the only one that looked like creating something, whereas the likes of say Bennett, Smallwood and Evans will work hard but lack any quality once they get into the final third. Tony talks about Artists and Soldiers I see a lot of soldiers but very few artists and artists win you games.

So it's all Palmer's fault that we lost today and drew at Ipswich not Mowbray making poor subs in both games, Not Armstrong missing a sitter and greedily not playing Graham in today, Not Raya for letting in a soft goal at Ipswich and 2 soft goals today. It's all Kasey Palmer's fault that we lost points. For goodness sake wake up man he didn't even have the worse miss today (Armstrong gets that honour) and he certainly hasn't had the worst miss of the season, Elliott Bennett gets that honour and unlike Palmer he hasn't scored a goal this season despite playing in a similar position to Palmer. Yet you don't mention Armstrong or Bennett missing sitter you only mention Palmer and blame dropping points on him, talk about an agenda.

This biggest worry about Dack is just how bad his injury is as Mowbray doesn't seem to have a clue. Ahead of the Reading game he said “He’s been with the physios and has been in the pool, and if he trains and is back on the grass on Tuesday then I’ll imagine that he will be available for Wednesday night." Before the Brentford game he said “Bradley’s okay. It’s just a decision to make and we have to make sure we don’t fall down a hole with him in playing him and playing him and playing him until he breaks down. We will make a call on Brad over the next day or so." And then before today he said "Bradley will probably be ready for Bristol City". The injury is clearly more serious than Mowbray has let on (given that he hasn't even made the bench) the big question and worry is just how much more serious.
