Tony Mowbray Discussion
Mashed Potatoes replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The play offs were introduced for the end of the 1986-87 season so I don't think what you are saying is quite right. Nowhere do I say that I am happy with where we are. My original post today was in response to a supporter's claim that he was unmoved by us winning today's game with a late goal. I just find it hard to believe that a football supporter really thinks like that. Sitting down here in the South of England I was out of my chair for that winning goal. -

I would agree with you that nearly all of the 1980s teams were better than the present side. OK ? -

If football has changed for the worse why do more people go to games now ? -

Clearly it isn't great but what we have seen in the last two home games with two late wins - one from a goal down - is not the hallmark of a relegation side -

I think he's more likely than another Venkys appointment. Why would a Rovers fan not be thrilled by another late winner ? -

We had the never say die spirit to again win a game with a late goal -

Hang on. How does the late goal mean nothing ? At the start of this month Mowbray was criticised because we never won games late on; now we are making a habit of it. -

Congrats to the players for digging deep to win another game late on -

Do you know where the son went to school ? A British school education might have left him with a better insight in to football. -

How about leaving the guy in the job but giving him the powers he needs to do the job in the way it is normally done- you know, that unfashionable idea of someone having a chance to prove themselves rather than throwing P45s around will nilly. -

I can't see why someone should be fired because they haven't done something they didn't have the power to do -

The problem is that as the club is presently run the chief exec just has that title and is really little more than an administrator - they are not given the authority or powers normally invested in that position -
Southgate is rightly praised for reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup having taken over an England team that had been consistently failing in tournaments for some years

I am sure we all wish Dominic a full recovery from an operation to remove a brain tumour
-
And Dack's ? The point is that some people have been suggesting that Chapman would improve the first team and the fact he hasn't is in some strange way down to Mowbray whereas those who actually watch Chapman play confirm that he doesn't look good enough

But would the owners permit Mowbray to spend significant sums on a full back ? -
It's sad but it's Chapman's failure not Tony Mowbray's

FA Cup match played when strikes meant there were energy shortages and so football matches were played in the afternoons so there was no need to use floodlights

But he's turned himself round though. This latest incident looks like something that goes on in training all the time - despite what some supporters might say footballers generally do care about what happens on the pitch and from time to time it goes just a bit too far. Regarding Sterling generally there is evidence that he has been on the receiving end of some unpleasant reporting in the press which looks to have a racial element - buys a property so his mother can have somewhere nice to live and gets slammed for having a big time attitude - meanwhile a white player does the same thing and gets praised.
-
I can't see what Sterling has done to be thought "a complete knob". In my view he has rightly been praised for the mature and decent way in which he has conducted himself when being on the receiving end of racist abuse.
