  1. There have been a few silly and sarcastic comments about us hiring a set-piece coach, but it's probably the modern way to do things. Set-pieces are huge, and account for ~30% of all goals scored. At least we appear to have some staff within the club who are now looking to be proactive for a change rather than sit comfortably and let things rot.
  2. Yep, we seem to be putting quite a few on pro deals. Very good incentive to see what surfaces.
  3. Couple of interesting bits from this article. Firstly, I forgot Wharton damaged his ankle ligaments half-way through the season. Let's hope that doesn't become a recurring issue! My ligaments are buggered, and it sucks, but at least they don't earn my salary as I sit on my arse all day. Secondly, Sharpe suggests that Wharton struggled to fulfil 90 minutes during his U21 days. Perhaps that's why we saw more of Morton than Wharton this season; his fitness levels might have needed some geeing up.
  4. 13 new season tickets sold in the last couple of days. I know that price is a factor. I think the uncertainty surrounding Tomasson has also been playing it's part. I think we've all felt a slight dread of what is to come if Tomasson goes after a good first season at the helm. I think if it was confirmed that he wasn't going anywhere, and we started to get a signing or two through the door early on, then it might reassure some supporters that we aren't going to return to some of the old ways. One thing I will say is that the numbers of new season ticket holders does look decent. It's the non-renewers they need to bank on, now. The above things might sway some to do so.
  5. The Feyenoord situation doesn't mean we can breathe easy. There are rumours of interest from clubs whose seasons aren't even decided. I'm not convinced that Tomasson is actively looking to leave, but every manager or head coach will always be open to bigger opportunities. If well-resourced clubs like Leicester City and Leeds United knock on the door, he'd likely be off. The worst case scenario is that we will be compensated (hopefully handsomely), and we'd pick someone of a similar ilk. I'd prefer Tomasson to stay. The football hasn't been perfect, has it? Yet, we finished 7th, which is far higher than I thought we'd be, and unlike the Mowbray years, I can at least see how we're trying to play - the sign of a decisive Head Coach. I also think the players have got used to it all, and we just need to add some of the right types to make it work better. Overall, I think Rovers have some cards to play with, here, which is something we haven't been able to say too often over the last decade.
  6. Unless a youngster on loan is outstanding, like Elliott and van Hecke were, I think they aren't going to be overly liked by the supporters because they'll be seen as blocking our own talent from our own superb academy. That's just the way it goes. I'd like to think we won't be doing it too often if we can get more permanent signings than usual and keep blooding the academy talent. As for Wharton, there were rumours that he wasn't pulling his weight in training earlier on in the season. I don't know how true that was, and while we all know he is pure talent on match-day, who knows what goes on behind the scenes?
  7. Given that Rovers are an attractive option for Premier League clubs to send their loan players to, I'm not convinced we would have a gun held over our heads about playing time. It does seem like we have the upper hand in that regard.
  8. Taken from LancsLive. Broughton: "We know what Tyler allowed us to do and develop. I had been asked by supporters on the street if he was only playing because of a clause, let's get that off the table, that was not the case. He was selected on merit, what he was doing in training and in games. He was a fantastic person and a player, we were devastated to see him get injured, it was a pleasure to work with him."
  9. Wash your mouth out, this is the Ribble Valley we're talking about here.
  10. Broughton confirms that there was no clause in Morton's contract for him to be selected in the first team. States that Tomasson always selected him based on merit.
  11. That's the most unbelievable thing I've read on this message board in the last five minutes.
  12. I hadn't heard of Leo Duru until he recently signed his first professional contract with us. Described as an attacking right-back. Sounds like he matches the style we're looking for. Anybody got an assessment of him having seen him play?
  13. They should. Or at least agree something in in January. This time next year, JDT will have just one year left on his contract. If he does as well next season as he did this season, he'll be even more highly sought because the upcoming season is going be tougher than I can remember for a long time. I'd rather take the risk and protect his value to the club even further than let it get down to the last 12-18 months when he could walk for a meagre amount (or even for free) thereafter. The club has made good strides in protecting the value of its assets in the last 12 months (Brereton Diaz was a lost cause). I think we should continue on with that when it's clear that a player or staff member has done well.
  14. Slot: "There have been no negotiations with other clubs." He is either lying or, more likely, one or two parts of social media are, after which it snowballs. Just a reminder that we're firmly in Silly Season!
  15. I noticed Hakan Sukur has been exiled to the USA due to a falling out with Gundogan or Erdogan. Do you think if Adam Wharton was Turkish, he'd be like Hakan? 🤔 Or should Hakan ask, "What would Adam do?"
  16. It's fifteen years since we last had a manager wanted elsewhere. At least we're doing something right.
  17. Well, 64 seats have been shaved off the count since Saturday, namely in the Riverside. Not sure why. They're in blocks of three or four in random areas, but mostly in E02. Hopefully all will become clearer on Saturday.
  18. Rumours abound, now, with PSV being linked. No idea of the credibility. It's going to be a long couple of weeks ahead.
  19. They won't have listened at all. They'll have shat themselves at the numbers since the super saver (what a tacky name) period ended.
  20. Broughton deserves credit for what looks like him pushing to get players under contract. Would Waggott have pushed for the same? Or would he be waving a short-sighted balance sheet in front of the owners? Broughton needs to redeem himself after January, certainly. He publicly set himself a target of 50% of business done by the end of June. Over to him.
  21. Broughton on JDT: "We’re having conversations every day about players coming in and the plans for the future, so I can only give credit to him for what he’s done here." It doesn't definitively mean JDT is staying, but it doesn't sound like JDT has had enough. I think it'll just be a classic case of, if a better opportunity comes along, he'd like to take it. Maybe it's not as bad behind the scenes as we think.
  22. Only if there have been 1,000 renewals or more since the price hike. I wouldn't expect us to be anywhere close to that. I'd expect it be in the low 7,000s.
