  1. If we win all our games and everyone above us loses all theirs we CAN make the play offs....oh hang on that can't happen can it....oh well.
  2. Real shortage of goals around tonight, usually means a late flurry so lots of changes to come yet
  3. We are OK at the back but create so little going forward we only have to concede 1 to lose most games. I wonder how many games this season we have had more than say 7 or 8 shots on target, not many.
  4. Concerns about the 2 who are suspended for this one. CKR is unpredictable and very often useless but he is probably the 1 player who has looked dangerous on occasion this season so we could do with him. At centre back it must be Rekik (who has been useless at full back) or Givet (who hasn't played for months). Presuming Givet has been frozen out for non-football reasons it will probably be Rekik. If Udders have any sense they'll be knocking balls into our box from all angles with an inexperienced keeper and a centre back pair who haven't played together before it could be mayhem. They are in far better form than us as well and have big Jason Beckford up front.
  5. I think when Tugay and Brad were in their pomp they were the best players in their positions in the league. Not bad for a wee team eh.
  6. RIP. pretty average player really but gave his all in an era when we had a squad of about 15. Birmingham away was definitely his finest hour, remember it well as a classic away game from this era of classic away games.
  7. If it's not deliberate then it isn't a foul and so it isn't a free kick at all. It's the same with handball, it isn't a matter of ball to hand or anything else but is a simple matter of whether the player does it deliberately. I think far too many fouls are given when a player can't get out of the way of the ball or an opponent when in reality no offence has taken place. Also, if cheats like Drogba go around diving and looking for penalties who can blame the ref for erring on the side of caution. It would be the easiest thing in the world to give penalties in favour of the home team so I applaud the referee the other night for being honest and fair and in most cases correct...... especially as it really annoyed Chelsea and all their mockney hangers on.
  8. Initially I was gutted to see Hughes was leaving. he's done a great job and it's a shame to see him go. Then again, he thinks he's taken the club as far as he can......and maybe he's right. Is that because he can't take it any further or because the clkub can't go any further? I reckon that if we make another really good appointment then we could improve and this maight look like a good thing a couple of years from now. Look where we were when Souness walked out and compare to now. If we appoint a manager in the Hughes mould then maybe he could take things forward and see us in the top 6 and challenging for cups maybe. Whoever the new man is, and there are enough likely candidates who could do a decent job, we need someone who has Hughes's poositivity but can transfer that attitude to the players so they really go for it in matches. I think that this season we often struggle to get going until things went wrong. I'm looking forward with optimism for the future. That's until we appoint BFS anyway.
  9. There's no point in even speculating about this because there is absolutely no chance that Hughes will be on Chelsea's list of possible managers. None whatsoever. I'm not saying that he couldn't do the job but I am saying that the likes of Chelsea are just not interetsed in the likes of Hughes these days. Ditto Man Utd actually which is great news for us.
  10. If you listen to fans of any team outside the Big 4 (+1) then they will say that any particular football programme is biased against their team. I don't think they are any more biased than the papers or the radio in that they are obliged to give the most coverage to the teams whose fans make up most of their audience. You want to come and sample the coverage you get for the Old Firm up here if you think you have something to moan about. These programmes are sold around the world and most of our TV revenue comes from Asia and folk in Singapore ain't interested in Blackburn Rovers. I'm afraid its another symptom of what the Premiership has become and there is nowt we can do about it.
  11. I think we should thank the ref anf lino for disallowing that goal late on. I don't why they didn't allow it but I'm glad they didn't as it saved us a point.
  12. I thought he prefered boys anyway. At least he won't have to listen to Cheryl's God awful singing any more. Every cloud has a silver lining.
  13. On numbers of English playters in the CL, on at least 2 occasions this season there have been more Scottish than English players playing in the CL over a round of games. Now that is embarrassing. Scotland have actually benefited from having the plug pulled by the TV companies as it forced the top clubs to bring through players and look closer to homw for signings which has meant an overall more competetive league and higher standard of player. Nobody saw this coming a couple ofyears ago mind.
  14. I think you have to judge players in the environment they play in. If you put all the Croatian players into the EPL there is little doubt that none of them would have the impact of Lampard, Gerrard, Terry etc but this doesn't mean that Lamps and co are better players. When you move up to the International game, where the pace of the game is generally more studied and there is more reliance on technique over running power, the Croatian plares on display last week were better in every dimension. Just look at the way their defenders were able to control the ball and move it out of defence without reliance on the big hoof up the park, it was a joy to watch. For too long england have relied on the big boot and this has been shown repeatedly to be not good enough. I just hope that this is a wake up call and we might see the end of the likes of Rio Ferdinand pulling on an England shirt. We need to learn how to keep the ball in all positions. We need to presurise the opposition by keeping it when we're going forward and then when we need to kill a game we need to be good enough to keep it from them in defence, England just can't do that at the moment. As great a player in the EPL as Gerrard is for instance, when was the last time that he took time to think what he was doiing and perhaps made a sensible pass. If you constantly try and hit 60 yard balls in Internationals you lose it 9 times out of 10 and then don't get it bacl as easily as you do in the EPL. I think in this country we make the mistake of assuming that a player is the best in Europe/World just because they are the best in our league but this just isn't the case., as has been shown in each major tournament over the last 40 years or so.
  15. When Sven left I was all in favour of having an English manager because as a leading country we should be managed by an Englishman. After the McLaren debacle I have to admit that I was wrong. There are no English managers who can do the job so we need to go foreign. Even if we had won last night I would have sacked McLaren and got someone else in the for the finals as the bloke was a joke and I don't see how Big Sam or Curbishley would have been any better. As for Martin O'Neil, people should remember that Irish isn't English and if we are going for a non-English manager then why would you pick O'Neill who has done nothing. Strachan has a better record at Celtic than him and I don't see anyone clammering for wee Gordon to get the job. We need someone who has some tactical nouse, some experience and who speaks English. I'm sure there are loads of candidates.
  16. Clasic video, he was the best wasn't he. There's a goal on there against Pompey that I don't remember at all.
  17. Don Mackay was a very sweary man with a really loud voice and the Blackburn End had grown so sick of his rantings that this was a public appeal for him to tone it down a bit. Didn't work.
  18. Remember this game well, classic goals from the great man. Keeley knew how to make an impression didn't he? What a tackle. I like the way he went over to say sorry after and got away with it as usual. I don't think Davidson ever really recovered from that. Didn't think much of the Jim Davidson and Fred Gee strike pairing at Derby, no wonder we beat them.
  19. Can't see for the life of me why people criticise Benni for last season's efforts. I thought he was superb throughout and looked like a genuine class striker. He hasn't started as well this year but I think he deserves a chance to get back to his best. he was great though on Sunday. I find it quite distressing that we actually get a real top class player and everyone starts slagging him off, its bizare.
  20. What a fantastic manager Hughes is. The thing I like best is his positivity. Under Souness we were led to believe that finishing 17th and going out of every cup at the first round was acceptable for a team like us. When Hughes said a couple of years ago that he aimed to get into Europe it sounded like he was getting carried away but we did it and a large part of that is because of the confidence he gives the team by being so positive. I think having a great manager can make a team like Rovers punch way above our weight whereas if a different choice had been made 3 years ago we could juyst as easily have been in Burnley's division now. All credit to the Board for getting the right man. Who were the 8 people who were angry about his appointment? I think they should be named and shamed. I was in the "YES" camp I think but without a great amount of enthusiasm but he has proven to be a fantastic appointment. The best ever maybe bearing in mind what he inherited and the resources he has had................
  21. I don't see why everyone is getting so upset. Like nearly all players he wants to play for a Champions League team and if someone comes in for him he'll be off. I haven't seen him doing any badge kissing or "I've always dreamt of playing for Rovers" stuff so why should we expect anything different. Imagine if he's had a bad season, we would have tried to punt him on to anyone, contract or not, so good luck to him. At least he's being upfront about it.
