  1. We score well by being from England but on our own performances in Europe we'd probably be ranked below Albania Reserves. Only European performances count towards this and its over 5 years.
  2. Has anyone sen this:- http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/seeduc2006.html If you follow the seedings through from the qualifying rounds we will probably get into the top 40 and therefore be seeded. It depends who gets through from the qualifiers and who drops down from the CL. I would expect some of the CL teams to be seeded higher than us but not all of them so we should be OK. West Ham and Spurs are rated lower than us but Newcastle will be higher if they get it. We are officially rated 99 in Europe, just ahead of Roda JC and a couple of places above Everton and Villa. When the qualifiers start in July you can check this site to see where we are and who we are likely to be drawn against.
  3. He's not good enough for Arsenal.....yet! Thats why he doesn't play. I would say Sven is usually very conservative and these selections are totally out of charactor. Well I don't suppose he's that bothered really is he as he's probably got the Real Madrid job lined up.
  4. Hang on a minute I'm a bit confused. If Wenger has recommended Walcott for the WC why hasn't he played him in a single game for Arsenal? If Wenger recommended his postman would he have been in the squad?
  5. I think the manager has gone mad. You can't go to the world cup with players you haven't seen play. Walcott hasn't played a single game for Arsenal. Its mad. Downing, Lennon and Walcott are not even proven domestically over a decent period of time so why risk taking them all. Take 1 of them, 2 at most but 3? And Owen Hargreaves, come on.
  6. A good performance by Rovers, particularly with all the players who were missing. Even with 10 men we were well in control in the 2nd half. A special mention should go to the steward who stopped the streaker getting on the pitch. He was showing some pretty nifty footwork in blocking his runs until the cavalry arrived. I took my 6 year old daughter for her first ever game and we were sitting at the front of the Riverside. I was expecting to be answering questions like "Which team is Blackburn" etc but not really "Why is that man showing his bottom?" She wants to come again but I think she might be a bit disappointed next time.
  7. I hope Chelsea play the stars rather than the reserves because they won't be up for it. Don't imagine that anyone will fancy missing the WC for the sake of a meaningless game. The Axe to start and get a few digs in early. Hughes should tell Savage to keep his gob shut so he can save his inevitable booking for hacking someone down. 25,000, you must be joking. Night match, on TV with astronomical ticket prices and few away fans. 21,210 and a 1-1 draw.
  8. Heard a medical expert on the radio this morning say he will probably not be able to run for 5-6 weeks and has no chance of playing in the group games. Sven will have to decide on Rooney or Owen I reckon because he can't take both if neither will be fit for the start. In reality they are probably both out so its Crouch and DeFoe then. What is it with England players and metatercels?
  9. Assuming he's on a fortune at Brum they might be keen to get rid on a free and we could maybe get him on a pay as you play deal. I would love to see him back at Ewood because he's a fan and a great player but he's too much of a gamble for a full contract. I bet he's not played more than about 50 games for Brum in his 3 years. I wouldn't be overly keen on any of Brum's other plasyers though. They are either past it, crap or over-rated. (Suton, Heskey and Pennant)
  10. Pennant would add to our public enemy number 1 status allright. Hw could give Bellers a few tips on how to survive inside. I'm so glad that Pompey stayed up though as they have been great recently and have a fantastic support. Its amazing how their 20,000 can make their ground amongst the most intimidating around.
  11. Great performance. Charlton were very poor but you never see a team dominate another in the way that we did. Nelsen going off caused a big upheavel as well but it didn't change the game at all. The difference for me was that Tugay was playing and when he is on his game he is the best player around in his position. I thought he was fantastic yesterday and showed the rest how to play in midfield. He linked well with Savage as well who seems happy to do all the running while Tugay strokes it round. I just hope he can have another season next time like this one because he makes such a diference and I can't see how we could replace him if we want to keep playing the passing game. Great to see a Rovers team just knocking the ball around and controlling everything though. I also thought the front 2 looked really good together and when Bentley came on we looked a real threat when we went forward. If we don't sign Pongolle we need to get someone who can play a similar role as Bellamy seems to like playing with him.
  12. I'm so pleased that Big Phil has pulled out. I personally think its an embarrasment to not have a manager from your own country. You certainly wouldn't get Germany, Italy, Brazil etc looking abroad for a manager and neither should we. As long as he's English I don't care who gets the job, if the 1 who gets it doesn't do well then we can sack him and get someone elese no harm done as in international football everyone has the same players to pick from. Stan Ternant excepted of course.
  13. Stay away from sniffling chickens and swans mate!
  14. Didn't know about Moscow but the others are right.
  15. London is the new one and Madrid and Milan are right. The other 2 are a bit more difficult.
  16. I think there were 4 cities in Europe who had 2 teams who have been to a European Cop/Champions League semi-final, there are now 5 after leat week. Can anyone name the 5 cities?
  17. What a great game and I think it was a good point for us because Pompey played really well and put us under loads of pressure. In previous years we would have lost this game easily but we showed some charactor and in Bellamy some skill. We defended quite well and Brad was superb but Dickov, Pederson and Bentley were quite poor. If Bolton lose tomorrow we are in a great position to get 6th place and possibly better if we can keep this up.
  18. Call me old fashioned but I think you should only consider managers from your own country as it is international football we are talking about. This leaves about 4 or 5 candidates who you couldn't choose between. Its a misconception when people go on about experience because the manager won't have to buy players, or even coach them really, all he has to do is motivate them and have good tactics. Its totally different from club management. How do you know how good anyone is until they get a shot at it anyway and if they aren't any good then sack them. At least at this level you don't get stuck with a load of bad buys when you sack a manager you just bring in a new man and he takes over with the same playuers available. What I am trying to say is thast I haven't got a clue but as long as he is English then thats fine with me. Not that bloke from Burnley though, Steve Whatsisname!
  19. As a commentator I can't stand Clive Tyldesley. He's always on about how the other team are cheating when he's doing these European games. He also demands a booking for every foul against the team he wants to win and yet comdemns players for demanding bookings.....arse. ITV basically assume that the viewers are too ignorant to decide who they want to win a game so have to be influenced by an incredibly biased commentary.
  20. What a game. I think Gayle and Garner got a couple each and then Big Col got the winner in the last minute and was right on the fence at the Blackburn End. I think Jack Holden probably said something like:- "Its all happening down here at Ewood."
  21. I believe that they can get away with it because it is delayed (by about 30 seconds). The landlord of a pub in Edinburgh told me that yesterday. I enjoyed the game anyway.
  22. I reckon that the categorising of prices for certain games is a massive disincentive for people who might want to come along and fill all these empty seats. We don't seem to be able to get any bigger gates in terms of home fans for the bigger games but a lot of that is because it is so expensive. Why not charge the same price for every game and then when it is a big game, which more people want to see, they will come along and fill the ground. Then we get a great atmosphere and there is more chance that they might come back. You can't knock the support of the people of Blackburn when you consider the size of the place but there must be ways of getting more people interested and pricing them out of coming so we can get a few more quid from away fans is short sighted and to the long term detrement of the club.
  23. Did anyone see the coverage of the game on Sky last night. Wenger was the only interview it showed after the game and the interviewer was just prompting him to have a go at our "rough tactics". It was a disgrace. To be fair to Wenger although he said he thought they were unlucky he wasn't too critical of us but it was the way in which the questions were directed that annoyed me. There were no questions about how his so called unlucky team only created 1 or 2 decent chances in the whole game against our 3 or 4. I can't remember there being any particularly nasty tackles in the game so obviously even tackling these prima donas fairly is not allowed now. How remis of the Rovers not to know that our place is only to provide foder for the likes of Arsenal and Man U to show how glorious they are. Come on the Rovers.
  24. This was my favourite ever game at Ewood Park. After so many failed play-off atempts before it was no surprise when we went 2-0 down after about 10 minutes and some people actually left at this point. I think it was Scott Sellars who got the first one back and then Mike Newell fired in a beauty just before half-time. The crowd was going mad all through the break and when they came back on for the second half the place was absolutely jumping. You could see Derby thinking "what the f***" and they didn't want to know after that. In truth we could have had 4 or 5 in the second half but just got the 2 goals from Speedie and another 1 that was wrongly disallowed. To make it even more special we went to Derby and did the business as well in another fantastic night.
