  1. This is it now, no post Europe hangover but a confortable 2-0. Gamst and McCarthy.
  2. Its funny how the media people keep saying that it will be a real test on Wednesday. Andorra have won 1 competetive game.......in Macedonia!
  3. The problem with the charge the away fans theory is this. What happens when they don't come? Say we went down, where would our revenue come from then if we have not managed to attract them over the last few years? Its very short isghted in my view as we should be looking at ways to maximise the home support rather than cashing in on a few big following. The more the crowds dwindle the worse it gets as people aren't attracted along to sit in a half empty ground.
  4. Its called supply and demand. Where supply exceeds demand the price has to come down or ruination will swiftly follow.
  5. I hope JJ celebrated his goal in a suitably provocative manner.
  6. So incredibly short sighted. I'd be surprised if we sell more than a couple of thousand home tickets for ewither of these games which is another opportunity lost to get some floating fans back to Ewood. Another season of regular sub 20,000 attendances in prospect I think. They need to forget about the away fans and think about how to increase the number of Rovers fans who are willing to pay to come and watch the team.
  7. Charging more for the bigger games is so wrong for so many reasons. The main 1 being that when you have a chance to sell the idea of coming to see a game to as many people as possible we up the price and sell the seats to away fans instead who come once a season and don't care how much it costs anyway. Not the best idea. The club should be looking at the fact that we can't even sell out against Man U these days and wander why. How many Rovers fans will buy tickets for the Everton game at those prices? About 4-5,000 I would expect, expecially as we have Chelsea as well where the prices will presumably be as expensive.
  8. Should be a great game with both teams having played good football and deserving to be there. As I'm going to be watching it in France I hope they win because it will be a good night if they do. Also hope France win for the sake of Zidane who is still the best around. On saying that Ialy were fantastic last time and if they play like that again they will win. Also if they do win Clive Tyldsley will be able to say something like "English hands lift the WC after a 40 year absence tonight" because that boy on the left wing was born in Lancashire. Funny how teams have lost against their bogey teams all through the knock out stages, eg Portugal v England, France v Brazil, Italy v Germany, France v Portugal. This would mean that France will win as they usually beat Italy. Good to see that you don't discrimnate between different types of foreigners.
  9. My main concern with England throughout this WC has been the lethargy with which they seem to be gripped. In all the games we seened to be playing with lead weights attached to our legs and even when we had a good start to a game it only ever lasted for a bit and then they seemed so leggy. It must be something to do with the way the squad prepared because I don't remember seeing anyone else suffering from the same thing and all the teams have gone through hard seasons. Its definitely something the management need to look at because we'll never win anything if we can't last right through games. The only time when they shook this off was after Rooney got sent off but thats no good because you are fighting to stay alive when you are down to 10 men anyway. Maybe they should second some of the players to Rovers because we seem to have good trainers who can get players running for the whole game.
  10. Can someone explain what Ronaldo, or any Portugeese player for that matter, did that was so wrong against England. All of this stinks to me of the usual looking for a Johnny Foreigner scapegoat and thinly veiled jingoism. Lets face it, they were better than us and we lost, end of story.
  11. I reckon this is a good signing as Roberts was excellent last year. I see him as 1 of those centre forwards who scores a few and makes a few as well (like his uncle). An improvement on Kuqi certainly and then if we can bring in someone decent to replace Bellamy then we can have Kuqi and Jeffers in reserve as well as the youngsters. £2 isn't much to have spent on a player like this either considering that a few years ago we were spending twice that on Ashley Ward, should mean we have some money left to bring in someone else.
  12. Saw him play for Rangers a couple of times last year and to be honest he was abysmal. You've got to trust Hughes though as he's come up trumps with nearly all his signings so far and he does know Jeffers from a few years ago. I suppose that "heavily incentivised" means a fiver a week if he isn't in the team so its probably a good gamble to take that he comes good for us. Still think we need another striker though to replace Belamy (if thats possible).
  13. I think this game shows just how hard Brazil are going to be to beat. They weren't particularly impressive and were playing a good team and yet still won fairly confortably. The thing that would worry me most about England playing them is that they hardly ever lose the ball and when the likes of Beckham and Lampard are constantly going for the glory pass they keep giving it away and we might struggle to get in the game. You have to keep the ball in these games or you are stuffed.
  14. Absolute, utter and complete nonesence. Riquelme is a footballing god. Even when England beat Argentina last year we only got into the game when Argentina took Riquelme off as he totally dominated the game up until then. He seems to have the ball all the time and never gives it away, what a player!
  15. Oh dear, this was against Port Vale and Falkirk players. Bring on Brazil!
  16. Agree entirely but singing songs about German bombers in pubs full of people from all over the world having a beer and a good time together is hardly the way to do it. I'm not saying forget but I am saying lets move on and not embarrass ourselves.
  17. Have England fans been behaving themselves over in Germany so far? I was in Cologne on Saturday and watched the game in the Fanfest in the city centre. There were a few thousand England fans there and there was a really good atmosphere with no sign of any trouble. I did see a couple of English lads being arrested on Friday though. A few idiots were singing about bombers in a pub on Sunday as well which most people found embarrasing in a city of which 90% was destroyed in the war. You couldn't get a more friendly and welcoming people than the Germans and some people are still banging on about things from 60 odd years ago, D*ckheads. If anyone is off to Cologne next week its a great place with loads of great pubs. My advice would be to avoid the Corkonian as it is an Irish pub and seems to attract the scumbags but apart from that its great. If you haven't got a ticket the Fanfest is right near the station but you'll need to get there early as its not that bis. The stadium is miles away. The beer is great as well.
  18. This was the best WC I can remember and the Italy-Brazil match the best game ever. Other classics were every Argentina game in 78, Maradona's goals v England in 86, England v Germany semi in 90 to name a few. England have been involved in plenty of good games in my memory but usually end up losing them unfortunately.
  19. I bet on Van Horse at 16-1 but what about the Iranian player who has 109 goals at international level. Bobby Charlton eat your heart out!
  20. My only fear for getting through the first round is if we mess up here and then go out on goal difference for not stuffing T&T by enough goals. I think we should win 2-0 though but they will be tough and hard to break down and also will be quite skillful.
  21. Hoping to go to this game if I can get tickets. Its a bit of a Portugeese Empire Derby so should be good but I can see Portugal winning it 3-0.
  22. We could draw Gretna then couldn't we. That would be a laugh. I think they've agreed to play their home games at Motherwell. So it could be Buckfast and fried Marsbars all round then.
  23. The seeding system is incredibly complicated but it does favour English teams so lets not complain about it too loudly eh. If it wasn't for our national coefficient we wouldn't be seeded. I think there is a possibility that we could miss out on a seeding but it would take some big shocks in the CL qualifiers for that to happen.
  24. Huh? The point being that our pathetic performances in the past have cost us dear. Sorry for not making this clear. I'm sorry if I confused you bluebruce.
