  1. Remember getting to London so early we had to wait outsiode that Thwaites pub in Islington for hours before they eventually opened early to mark the occasion. What a day. I still have the ticket for the game, it was £5.
  2. Neill signed a contract to play for Rovers for X number of years and that period is up at the end of this year. He hasn't demanded more money or demanded to move during that period and wants to leave at the end of it. I can't see why anyone has a problem with that. He is committed to Rovers and will remain so till the end of the season. If he had been playing rubbish I am sure that Rovers would have fired him off at the end of his contract without anyone being bothered so whats the difference. We should keep him till his deal runs out because he is committed to the cause, it is in his interests to continue to perform and he is cheap where if we sold him we would get buttons for him and any replacement would be on far more than he is at the moment. It makes a change for a player to be honest about his intentions and he should get credit for that and as for whether he should be captain....why not if the manager thinks he is currently the best man for the job. He's only filling in for Nelson after all.
  3. I used to think Chris Coleman was black but I think he just spends a lot of time on a sunbed. If its not Broomes then its a trick question
  4. I must admit I was quite shocked at the overtly racist singing from a few Rovers fans but it didn't detract much from a fantastic couple of days. I have noticed over the last couple of years than people do now feel confortable coming out with this kind of poisonous bile while in the past it was considered to be well beyond the pale. I think it is worrying that in society as a whole some people find it socially acceptable to be racist and to be loud about being so. Its probably all going back to the terrorist threat and the hugely exagerated and mixed up press coverage about immigrants and asylum seekers but society is definitely becoming more polarised and more hateful, particularly in your part of the world. Its up to the silent majority to pick people up on this and tell these idiots that it is not acceptable to defile the name of our club with their stupid chants and noxious opinions. Failing that we should just kick the crap out of them.
  5. I thought the stadium was great. It even had floodlights for once. It was a real football ground. What facilities do you need?
  6. A copper at the harbour said it was 2% but BEB is right that it had a placebo effect. Fantastic trip alround though.
  7. I was surprised that so many people on here thought we had an easy group. To my mind it was a hard group and we have done fantastically well to get to where we are so far. Feyenoord are the obvious favourites while Basle are a really decent side with a far better track record in Europe than we have and you could probably say the same about Krakov. So far though we have been superb and should qualify now. I don't see there being many top teams coming out of the Champs League but anyone who does will probably be expected to beat the likes of us but if we can play like we have so far we can beat anyone in the competition.
  8. Can I just say that I am intending to get extremely drunk and behave in a boreish and oaflike manner throughout my trip to Holland. If anyone would like to join me I will be in Amsterdam on Wednesday and Rotterdam on Thursday. Come on you blues!
  9. Is this a new thing? Sounds a bit like someone's idea of selling shirts with players names on the back for 40 odd quid a go....it'll never catch on.
  10. You going to be playing catch up when we arrive mate? We can meet you off the train and the accom is just near the station anyway. Can't wait. I thought there were about 4,000 at Ceptic Park but you wouldn't know would you?
  11. What an insult. Tugay, even at 37, has far more to offer than that primadonna. Beckham has always been over paid and over rated so I hope to hell that we don't bring him over here. I can't see him being interested in signing for a team like Rovers anyway, unless we pay for him to be helicoptered in every week with his skinny tart, and I don't see Hughesie being daft enough to sign him. Not woorried apart from about the sanity of people who actually see signing him as a good ides. If you want clowns you should go to the circus, which is what Rovers would become if they did sign him.
  12. Whoever it was wants shot. He's the best at what he does in English football and not showing any signs of getting past it.
  13. Score flattered us but what the hell eh? I thought we looked dodgy at the back for the whole game and Gray was awful but at least we stuck at it. Tugay was superb but I always get the impression that he doesn't want to shoot. When he delayed his shot I was like "for f>>>s sake shoot" and then he sticks it in the top corner. Maybe he should do it more. Top man though. For the first time this nseason I thought MGP had a good game. He was trying things and getting decent balls in, a turning point hopefully. I can't believe that we are top of the group. All the easy draws we have had in Europe in the past and mucked it up and this time we get what I would say was a hard draw in round 1 and in the group and we are walking it. Happy days though.
  14. Stronger team than I expected, probably 8 first teamers and Axe would have played anyway with Savage injured. I thought he'd leave the Aussies out as they must be knackered after the couple of weeks they've had. I suppose its only a game of football though, can't be that tiring.
  15. 1-3. I can see us resting quite a few and even though they will too their reserves are far better than ours. A few years ago you would really fancy us against Chelsea in the rain at Ewood but they are not so much Southern Softies anymore. Hope I'm wrong and we stuff them though.
  16. Great result and performance yesterday. I thought our midfield 3 were all superb and ran the game really. It should have been 4 of course but MGP seems to have disappeared this season, maybe he should change his name back. On saying that he never really did anything last season in open play so maybe if he scores a couple of free kixcks all will be forgiven. I never thought I would say this but Savage was great. He still has a tendency to rampage around the pitch like an enraged swan but his all round play is really good at the moment. As for Tugay....ah, what a player. He gets better and better. If England had a Tugay they could win things/ I've said for ages that he is the best player in the league in his position and he still is. The way he takes the ball off the defence and makes simple but clever passes to the midfiled is a delight to behold. Whenever I can bring myself to watch England play and see Terry and Ferdinand blooter it forward aimlessley its so clear that a Tugay is the missing link. Unfortunately there is only 1 though. I just hope he can stay fit because he makes such a differnce to us. Bentley was magic as well.
  17. You mean David rather than Ernie don't you. Drinks like a fish, has 3 sons. Yes he is still around and he still goes in the Queens, a legend in fact. You should come over 1 day when Rovers are on. We usually get a few in there.
  18. Yes I do go to the Queens Arms. I know Peter but not sure about Ernie, is he a milkman?
  19. A few of us going from Edinburgh at 9 am on Wednesday. Amsterdam should be great on Wednesday night. When Hearts played Feyenoord a couple of years ago it was supposed to be mental in Rotterdam before the game with loads of nutters going round attacking everyone. Definitely better to stay in Amsterdam and then just get the train in and out of Rotterdam on the day. can't wait!
  20. Sounded like he had a great game today which is good because he is obviousely a class player but has had a nightmare so far with us. He'll probably kick on now. Can't wait to see Ooijer and Nelson together.
