  1. I'd take Peter Cook and he's dead ! At least he made me smile when he was alive.
  2. I've got to the point were I no longer listen to anything he says. Maybe the players feel the same way ?
  3. I only remember the " Last Sports " and that was white. The " Manchester Evening News " did a sports edition, that was pink.
  4. He's got to live with what he did for the rest of his life. You can be a hard player without over stepping the mark. I liked a tackle but I never seriously hurt anyone, you don't need to.
  5. Very sad to see another one of the World Cup winners gone. Another one with dementia also. Although I saw him play many times I was amazed to see how small he was on the film at the end of the Final. I always had him down as more stocky player than that. Of course he wouldn't have lasted whilst half time in todays football, but that was how it was then. The physical side was part and parcel of the game. Putting that to one side, like Norman Hunter, he was a better footballer than people gave him credit for. I remember when he was just starting out at Utd Bryan Douglas turning him inside out and upside down in a 3-0 Rovers win. Nobby spent all afternoon chasing Dougie without getting near enough to foul him. He was the player I mentioned a while ago in the beer glass incident a couple of years later at Old Trafford. During a break in play whilst a Rovers corner was being taken somebody threw one of the old dimpled beer glasses down from behind me. By pure luck it landed smack on the cross bar and shattered into a thousand pieces all over the goalmouth. Nobby was for going in to the crowd to find out who had thrown it. He had one leg over the boundary wall when a couple of wiser players dragged him back onto the pitch ! If you've seen that bit of film were he totally wipes out a player in a white shirt that was at Preston in the FA Cup. That was a shocker.
  6. I can't watch incidents like that Vinjay. I broke my leg twice and it's not something I care to be reminded of. That's not a criticism of you putting the video up by the way.
  7. What makes you think the owners know that much about football ? It was probably the lemon drizzle cake that swung it.
  8. No he played for Manfred Mann, I meant Phil Jones, as I expect you knew.
  9. The ball was going away from goal, not into a danger area. If everybody had have left it the ball would have ended up out by the corner flag. He was probably anxious to get into the game but that was a real mistake.
  10. If I'd a £5 for every I've seen Lenihan come out of the back line to get involved and then fail to deal with the situation I'd be a good bit wealthier than I am now. Paul Jones is the same, he's never smartened up either and that's in spite of all the top coaches they've had at Old Trafford. You just can't tell some people, they have an inflated opinion of their abilities that's hard to remove. Being drawn to the ball is a falling in most positions but at centre half it's normally a serious issue.
  11. I don't think the ball Douglas made a cock up of could be considered a ball that the goalkeeper should have come out for. If he stays back in goal the chances are we wouldn't have conceded.
  12. That's where most goals come from. If you're never there you aren't going to score many.
  13. He did his best to miss that last goal.
  14. I'd appoint him tomorrow if he'd come.
  15. " What happens if another club comes in and approaches Mowbray to go and join them " - And then you woke up.
  16. And then did nothing back at Southampton. I can't believe there weren't better options out there.
  17. How long have we been blaming " individual errors " ? For way too long in my opinion. As I said the other day he's had long enough to construct a defence that isn't capable of schoolboy errors on a regular basis. I knew not to turn my back on a long clearing kick out of defence before I was a 15 year old school boy. It's like when you're playing rugby, never let a high kick bounce. They are the rules you learn as a kid. When you're playing centre half, don't get drawn to the ball all the time. Hold your position and stay goal side of the opposition strikers. A well organised team will have all the squad singing off the same hymn sheet. Irrespective of injuries etc the way of playing stays the same.
  18. Let's hope there's some fans left as well. When you get to the point were nothing you can do as fans collectively influences what's going on, or more to the point not going on, at board level you start thinking why bother.
  19. What he usually says is "let's bring in some players to help the guys we've already got ". He never says " I'm signing " X " to replace " Y ".
  20. Me too. There was a lad in our youth league called Chris Cattlin, he played left back but he was nothing really special at the time. There was another lad who was twice the left back he was who never really got the break. Cattlin's dad was a Football League referee at the time and got him on at Huddersfield Town. He had a good career and later got a big money move to Coventry. He turned out to be a decent player but would that have happened if his dad hadn't have got him a leg up ?
  21. Yeah it's not often the whole defence has a really bad day at the office.
  22. Loads of stuff previously, but the porn star stuff wasn't from him.
  23. Me too, he wasn't flying 18 months ago but having said that he was out on the wing most of the time.
  24. Yeah it was totally out of order. I knew Chaddy wouldn't have posted that right away. A guy who posts on here from time to time managed to alter one of my posts to totally change the meaning of what I intended to say. You've got to be a complete tosser to do stuff like that. It's the only time I've complained to the Mods about another member of any of the forums I'm on.
  25. I think that'd be a fair valuation these days. He's not the finished article yet but he's worth that sort of money.
