  1. I don't know Ossy. My first game was against Sheff Utd many years ago. It was just the same sort of match, 16,500 on, we huffed and puffed and they won 2-1 but I was hooked. It was a lovely autumn day and the ground looked a picture, I just couldn't wait to get back. I took No 1 son years later, we won 4-0 and he's never been back. Just not interested. A few years after that I took No 2 son, a really boring end of season 1-1 draw. He was hooked as well.
  2. Bill Shankly used to trash Liverpools opponents in the changing rooms before the game - " Denis Law, he's crap, two bad knees, he can hardly walk, Bobby Charlton, he's crap, he couldn't tackle a meat pie, George Best, he's crap, he's probably still pissed from last night. " etc etc.
  3. I won't bother trying to predict which 11 will get to wear the shirt. I think it's pretty obvious there will be changes, maybe quite a few, maybe another change of playing formation also. Anybody know when we last played the same 11 for two consecutive games ? As somebody else said Forest will come fancying their chances so maybe it'll be a more open game. We've no idea how to break down teams that " park the bus " but we do better against teams who come to play. I wonder how many of the 1,500 or so extra fans that turned up yesterday will be there.
  4. I'm not a fan of either of SG or BB and I'm on record as saying I wouldn't have signed either of them from day 1. Certainly not for the large transfer fees we paid. SG from when he played here previously and BB from his so called " highlights " video that showed him running around a bit without much end product. Having said that to paraphrase Tony Blair - what you need as a striker is " Service, Service, Service " . At the moment whoever plays up front isn't getting that. Only the Alan Shearer's of this world can make something out of nothing on a regular basis. Playing up front with no proper ball to work with is the biggest arse kicking position on the pitch.
  5. I think he's taken us as far as he can. If you are happy to spend the forseeable future roughly where we are now, then Mowbray's your man. 40 or so years ago we had a team who were probably of the same sort of level of ability as the lot we have now and we were content to bump along season after season. The difference between then and now is we had a board who by and large knew what they were doing and most of all - the club had manageable debts. We could just about afford to bump along at this level, now we can't. Having said that I wonder what the likes of Gordon Lee or Howard Kendall would be doing with these players.
  6. At least Grabbi scored a few good goals.
  7. Well if you set your team up one way and it's nor working try another tactic. Chucking Samuel on out wide is just more of the same.
  8. Two types of midfield players cause defenders problems - the Damien Duff/Scott Sellars type that can get around teams and up the side and the David Dunn/Eyal Berkovic type who can carry the ball from the half way line and draw defenders out. If we have any players who can do this we need to play them.
  9. They all do it. Somebody once saw Arjen Robben come in off the right wing and bend one into the far corner with his left foot. After that they were all expecting Tom Dick and Harry who were playing at a much lower level to be able to it on a regular basis. I played full back and I'd show my winger inside all day long. " Go on son, get inside and run into heavy traffic, you'll do for me ". The wingers you really feared were the ones who were always trying to get on your outside and get everybody turned around and running back towards their own goal. Then you have a real problem. Mowbray was saying as much in his interview tonight.
  10. That 11 that started the game today should be streets ahead of Luton. Player for player we are. They need motivating though and obvously that isn't happening.
  11. Mowbray was mumbling on about " needing somebody to get to the byeline and pull the ball back for somebody running in " in his interview. No shit Sherlock but Gallager and Samuel won't do that. Chapman might though. We'd have been better off losing at Reading and winning today, at least the home fans will have gone home happy. I don't dislike Mowbray but being brutally honest he'll never get us promoted if he lives to be a 100. Look at the two teams, look how much we've spent on strikers. Player for player we are much better. No disrespect to Luton but they got battered last weekend, they got battered this Wednesday and we turn up like we just expected them to roll over and lie down..
  12. Just listened to Mowbray's interview. Blah, Blah, Blah. Totally uninspiring. It sounded like he was was discussing how he'd lost a 50p down the back of the sofa. At least he realised that playing Gallagher and Armstrong was a mistake.
  13. Maybe a few regular contributors had heart attacks today. They haven't been on to give the benefit of their wisdom so far. Maybe the internet is down in certain parts of Blackburn.
  14. Yeah but what about the headers he keeps winning ?
  15. The mentality at the club isn't right and hasn't been for years. It's too easy/osy. What do you think will happen on Monday morning ? I can tell you - nothing. If it was me they'd all be in for shooting practice tomorrow morning. Would it do any good ? who knows but it'd wipe the smiles off their faces, Nice guys come second.
  16. He's fallen down the same black hole that swallowed Gladwin. Remember him ? Tall blonde lad.
  17. I'm just hearing Japan beat Ireland in the Rugby Union. Let's not get equally complacent. We need to start at a high tempo and get at them from the start.
  18. There was something inexplicable about this deal right from the off. It went completely against our normal transfer policy. Maybe the truth will come out one day but I still can't figure it out. If he'd have cost us £500k It would still have been a gamble but £7 mill ? I've not seen anything that tells me he'll be any better than Samuel and that's roughly what we paid for him.
  19. Show us that clip of Bennett in the Oldham away game were he put the ball into the side netting from about 3 yards out with the Oldham goalie on his arse on the edge of the 6 yard box. My mum could have back heeled that one in.
  20. And one less club to get relegated as I understand it.
  21. Passing up the touchline isn't so simple and that's what full backs have to do more than any other player. I remember watching that Simon Grayson playing right back for us and he must have put every bloody pass into touch ! What a waste of space he was.
  22. I wasn't getting over excited about the striker ( Assambolonga ? ) we were supposed to be interested in from Boro earlier this year either. I'm not sure he was the sort of striker we needed and I'm not sure he would have made that much of a difference given the way we were playing.
  23. It's starting to look like he was signed to appease his fan club.
  24. I don't care if he never mentions the " P " word as long as the team does the talking out on the pitch. There's too much attention given to managers interviews these days. Kenny never said much but the team did the talking for him.
  25. We've been missing guys who seriously don't like losing. I think Cunningham and Johnson have that aggressive streak we've been short of.
