  1. it's dissapointing for many reasons that Lucas will end up at West Ham. I find it hard to comprehend that anyone (even if I am biased) would sign for West Ham instead of staying at Rovers. In many ways I would have had some respect for him going to Liverpool, at least that represented a footballing challenge - the only challenge he faces now is how his to spend £50k every week. I had no problem with him moving to Liverpool, he'd only played for us and Millwall so he had a chance to play for one of the world's biggest and most traditional clubs in a fantastic footballing venue. It would have been great to tell his grandkids stories about Anfield and the great Steven Gerrard. Sadly, his grandkids will have to settle for substantial shares in Werthers Originals whilst he tries to find newspaper cuttings to prove he was footballer but all Lucas will find are cuttings about leg breaking challenges and the summer he dumped his country out of the world cup with a trademark lunge. Having said all that I like Lucas - he's a very polite guy and certainly gave his all on the pitch. In my view he had a chance to prove himself as a footballer at Liverpool but he has bottled it. Ashley Young at the age of 21 wouldn't touch West Ham - that Lucas, if you're reading, says it all. Finally, I think it's only fair we/I thank Lucas for 4 or so good years. He hasn't been exceptional, he won't be remembered as 'a gem' or a legend. The bottom line is he did well no less, no more. His excellent world cup has earnt him his move so let's move on. I will now be supporting two teams untill the season end - Rovers and the team playing West Ham (but I'm not bitter ).
  2. SSN confirms Dunn has rejoined Rovers - breaking news as we speak
  3. Over the years I have had loads: Shearer Sutton Gallacher Bohinen Davies Dunn Cole The problem is in today's game players don't hang around for too long. So I have stopped getting names printed. If I had to I'd get Savage or Mokoena - just because they have signed new deals Although I have promised myself if Toogs gets a new deal I will definitely get him on next seasons away shirt.
  4. I cannot answer that question in a rational or logical manner to be honest. It is something very subtle or perhaps subconscious that keeps me attending. I really can't explain it. I do feel guilty when I don't attend - actually I think I may have some sort of psychological disorder when it comes to supporting Rovers. I mean who in their right mind would travel 200 miles to see 90 minutes of something that most weeks isn't any good for 60 minutes of it?!! It doesn't add up.
  5. For the first time in a long while I am seriously considering not going on Saturday, despite having a season ticket. I have 15,000 words to hand in on Monday and it's a four hour round trip for me, time is valuable. I feel rather guilty even considering not going. However,... ...Rovers are well and truely annoying me at the moment. I can't think about them right now without getting angry and frustrated. I think many players are merely going through the motions. I also don't think Hughes is giving them the rollocking they deserve, when right now that's exactly what they need. God knows if I had been in the dressing room after the Charlton!!! I am hoping Hughes cool exterior when dealing with th media is not mirrored in his after match team talks of late. Drop Pedersen, Tell Nonda to be more aggressive and run after everything (Show him a Kuqi video, for gods sake, you never thought you here that did you?!!). Tell Bentley if he pulls out another challenge he can go play with the U-17's where they will be nicer tio him. I miss Kuqi, his presence was important to us, now especailly away from home we are anonymous up front. I hold no hope for Saturday, our only chance may be that Newcastle have been equally poor this season. I never thought I'd get to write such a post under the Hughes reign. Not happy at present!
  6. From a completely selfish point of view I'd change the Feyenoord result. Because a) I would have loved to have seen 2,500 of us go mental and because when the steward took the ball off me I managed to recover which had been kicked into the crowd I could have said, 'your going out and we beat you 1-0 so AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!' as it was I said, 'please can I keep the ball'
  7. Can't sleep. So naturally I find myself browsing the MB. I guess this is the first point of call for many of us who can't sleep, anyway I digress. Tomorrow I set off for Amsterdam on then onto Rotterdam. I am excited, Jesus I sound like a ten year old. What makes it so wonderful is there is no pressure on us to win. Yes, I know we need to win the group blah blah and the money is big(ger) in the knock-out phase, but I bet 99% of people on here would take Barcelona (or big euro. side) in the next round. However, I fully expect us to win. Tugay will run the show, as ever the first twenty minutes will be crucial, but past that there is only one winner. I have travelled to the Celtic and Salzburg away games before. Both on coach and my god, the Salzburg coach journey was perhaps the most horrific way of travelling to a football game. So naturally it's a relief to fly to this one. I don't know why anybody would ever go on a coach that far - it was horrid. Anyway I will fly tomorrow at six - I can't wait to see you all there. I can't express to you how excited and honoured I feel to be one of 2,500+ attending the game. It is my opinion we are the luckiest supporters in the land. We have a real team, with real supporters and wherever we are it's a real adventure.
  8. I quite enjoyed reading that to be honest. It was something different at least. Although, it must be said I find his (your (if you are reading)) views rather sensational. Firstly, by booing Lucas Neill we would run the risk of weakening an already shaky defence. Exactly, where Micky gray left his defending brain over the summer I do not know. Neill, like Bellamy, will be punished when he realises the grass isn't always greener on the otherside. Secondly, start a revolt against Williams?? That is rather O.T.T. I can't think of more than one reason to doubt Mr. Williams. Thirdly, your comments about Dunn could be attributed to a certain Mr. Bellamy 15 months ago. He did ok and netted us a reasonable profit over a 12 month period. We need a centre midfielder and in January Dunn will be about the best we can get. Nevertheless, an interesting read.
  9. I really can't wait now. Six points from two games, a definite 2,500 travelling supporters. We couldn't have wished for any more. Perhaps, a win against Spurs would be nice - to give us alittle more comfort on the domestic front. I keep my fingers crossed we manage to secure an increased allocation.
  10. Technically Benni is very good and this is especially important in Europe - it is for this reason why Tugay shines on European nights. You have more space/time to play in europe and therefore the usage of the ball is crucial. He does have an issue with being caught offside, but I guess he works on the assumption that he'll get one right and score as he did last night. Given time he and Nonda or Roberts will prove to be very effective. But ultimately, for me, the crucial thing is his technical ability. He can manipulate the ball very well and players like that are few and far between - especially in our squad.
  11. This is perhaps the most uninspiring performance of the season so far (Pompey excluded). The worrying thing is that I don't see how we can change it. Losing Roberts is a massive blow, we have no presence up front. Benni won't head it and somebody tells me Jeffers is playing, but I am yet to see him. That first half has left me furious. We can't be that bad in the second half.
  12. I was hoping a good result against Bolton would allow me to enjoy this game regardless of result. However, we have to be very careful we don't get into a lsoing habit considering the tough fixtures we have coming up. Having said that I would be tempted to go with a line up that looks something like Brown Emerton Todd Ooijer Gray Peter (LM/RM) Mokoena (CM) Bentley (CM) Pedersen (LM/RM) or Gallagher Roberts Jeffers If we are going to use our squad this year then we must use it in games like this one.
  13. Just got back now and like most of you I am absolutely gutted. However, what a great game. I thought we played excellently. The atmosphere was good, a full crowd makes a difference. If I am going to be critical perhaps Savage shouldn't have started - he wasn't 100%. I can't blame the strikers for missing the penalties, it takes alot of bottle to step up and take them. There's a fine line between scoring and missing. Today it was Bolton's turn to win and have a great away day - but these things are cyclical - our time will come. Having said all this my hatred of Bolton now runs even deeper. On the way home a Bolton fan spat in my face and said some rather abusive things to my girlfriend - sadly I couldn't really do much given the company he was in (Stone Island gang). But as I say things go round in cirlces so hopefully he falls off a cliff!
  14. To be conservative with them we don't necessarily have to rest them completely, as you suggest in the Carling Cup. That is no doubt something that will be considered. What I was pointing more towards is when we have a week like the current one. 3 games in 8 days, it is difficult for any professional to play at the top of their game. I would consider not starting Tugay for either the Krakow or Bolton game. Mokoena has let nobody down so far this season. At a push it may be possible for Tugay to play 60 minutes in both, but there comes a point when he becomes a passenger. While Savage is going strong now - he will burn out. The more jaded he becomes the more vunerable he is to rash challenges and second yellows. Mokoena is a real athlete and that is something we need to make full use of.
  15. There is no doubt that come January we need to buy a central midfielder. The news on Reid is a huge blow - but let's take the positives. If he can get back with a month or so to go in the season it will be like signing a new player - to help our march towards the Uefa cup and a top 6 finish. Sidwell would be my choice of replacement. Dunn has to be considered - but the reality is Reid will probably play more games than Dunn from January onwards. Is Sidwell out of contract in the summer? I know he has turned down a couple of Readings offers. We need to be very conservative with our use of Tugay and savage to a degree (both the wrong side of 30). I'd like to say Gally could slot into the middle but he is more light weight than Tugay!
  16. There is no doubt that Lucas is a good fotballer (far from excellent mind you), great athlete and a person valued by his team mates and staff. What I can't understand are his comments. I can't work out whether he is stupid or being rather clever. However, I think the point is as club captain he should not be spouting his mouth off in the way he does. As many have said - he should be an abassador for the club! As I have said Lucas in good footballer, but in my opinion Mickey gray would do a better job at left back. It would be my preference to have a left sided left back, it provides balance. I would argue a fair proportion of our goals conceeded originate down our left. There is a reason he's playing at left back, because he can't play at right back. He is second choice there at the moment. Lucas will think differently but a move to a big club will only highlight his defensive frailties. He's rash and it was his lunge which cost Australia a place in the World Cup quarter finals.
  17. Avoided Group C Its group E Feyenoord Basel Krakov Blackburn Rovers
  18. Group A is looking better and Better. Auxerre, Rangers and Partizan.
  19. We are going to go into group C! AZ and Sevilla! - I just know it.
  20. What a great day. The feeling of relief/delight from the win against Wigan hasn't yet left me, and here we are ready to watch the UEFA cup draw for the group stages and we are in it!!. Not long now. Euro goals has finished - next the draw!
  21. Just about to set off and I am feeling incredibly nervous. This really is a big game. Please Rovers can we have 2 early goals so I can sit and actually enjoy a game. Anyone in doubt about going - go! There's my rallying cry. Enjoy the game.
  22. I only think it's right that I too post my delight at Brett's perfromances this season. He has been, as some have mentioned, beyond doubt our best player this season. He gives us far more going forward than Lucas ever did. He really has been a revelation this season, his attitude and determination should be applauded. At times last season the crowd really did give him some stick and he has responded like a real champion. But let's remember it's only been 8 or so games so a couple of bad pass backs (please not Thursday) and lacks of concentration could see him back to where he started. But so far - excellent Brett, please give us all the oppotunity to write similar comments come May.
  23. It took me an age to decide whether to go today, but when I sit and remember how I felt at half time last Sunday the decision was easy. We can't defend, we have showed no sign of being able how to defend in any game. Therefore, I fully expect a 3-0 defeat today. I would be absolutely delighted if we can manage an ugly no action 0-0, but I seriously doubt this will happen. Let's go 451 and start Mokoena. Mind you Benni is no lone striker. I have started the day rather pessimistically haven't I?
