  1. steve agnew was signed at the beginning on 91/92 season, by don mackay. i think for around 700K, might not seem a lot, but i cant remember him playing a single game.
  2. bob, i wasn't having a dig at you. you've made some very good points and i more or less agree with you. i concede i was harsh, in criticising a display that i hadn't witnessed, but i made those points cos i could see a defensive debacle was lurking around the corner. i agree zurab hasn't been his usual self, but i believe that's probably down to him not having confidence in ooijer. (**i've the strangest feeling that ooijer's going to score for us at boro, i'll be on the pitch if he does!** ) on nelson "making the others look good," the reason for that is he is a leader and we are lacking that at the moment (despite ooijers vast experience). the only leader comparable to nelsen is todd. he probably has burnt his bridges this time. however, i think that has little to do with the panorama programme, more down to him being outspoken. say what you want about todd, but you cant question his passion and commitment. on sutton, i wouldn't want him back either. he's passed it. i was being facetious. not like me !
  3. me too. funny how all those who were defending ooijer last friday, have suddenly gone a little quieter, after sunday.
  4. ideal opportunity to pick up 3 points and we will. boro 0-2 rovers ooijer bentley
  5. harrison, gartside, fat sam and his son have been unbelievably stupid, greed got the better of them. let's not kid ourselves, there'll be plenty more managers that accept bungs than were shown last night, but the difference between them and fat sam is :- they are brighter, more careful and only deal with the people they know and ,in many cases, get third partes to hand- over the money. all in all, i was disappointed with the programme. it promised far more than it delivered. harry has become far more wary about who he deals with, following previous allegations. much more is documented and i'd recommend reading- Broken Dreams: Vanity, Greed and the Souring of British Football, by renowned author- tom bower. it's a fascinating account of bungs and illegal payments and pulls no punches. todd and neill havent done anything wrong. they're not too blame for their agent trying to prostitute them. their performances last season prove their professionalism. also, why were some team names bleeped out ? (one was obviously chelski).
  6. very good point. although, i gave my city mate a lift yesterday and she says the lack of numbers wasnt all down to price, but city's abject away displays (their home gates are also down because of it). i've backed rovers ticketing policy in the past, but i cant understand the logic of the pricing of chelsea, city and wigan games. i can only deduce, rovers were banking on large away followings- to boost the coffers. all in all, a severe lack of foresight.
  7. agreed, rover6. i'm one of tugay's biggest admirers, but he was massively exposed yesterday (defensively). he'll always struggle when the oposition play a 5 in midfield and he just couldnt cope with bartons runs. the big question is- where's the creativity going to come from when he's not in the side ? for what it's worth, i think bentley should be given a chance at centre mid, in HOME games.
  8. chris, on friday i stated that i believe rovers are far more secure, with todd at the back. my critisism of ooijer isnt a vendetta. it's based soley on his displays for rovers.
  9. i shouldve made it clear, i wasnt refering to the goals and dont blame andre for either. there's no denying he was shambolic from the start. ooijer is not sure of himself and, as a consequence, the rest of the defence dont have any confidence in him. i'm not saying he is the only one to make mistakes, but he's the main reason for the defensive frailties. i do have some sympathy for him, but the mistakes he's making are basic. this baffles me somewhat, as he is not lacking in age or experience.
  10. looks like i'm being proved right on ooijer (and, honestly, that gives me no pleasure). he's harming our chances of a good start. he seems to set the rest of the defence on edge. no communication, poor position play, slack marking and slow at anticipating danger. it's not entirely the guy's fault. he should've been bedded in slowly. could've easily been 6-2 down, but were much better in the 2nd half, thanks ,in the main, to the inspired substitutions. the axe subdued the influential Barton (wish we'dve got him!) and nonda offered a real physical presence (he'll terrorise defences when he's fully fit) and gally proved once again that he's an instinctive finisher and an ideal sub. our luck was in yesterday and thankfully we capitalised. judging by the players' reaction at the final whistle, i reckon the win will galvanise us and i fully expect us to turn boro over on saturday. sunday 17th september- the turning point!
  11. whereas you've stayed on the topic ? good work, pabby.
  12. whereas you, in your ivory tower, in boston, can ?
  13. people are taking notice of andy neild! i fear the apocolypse is imminent!
  14. i'm judging him by his displays and will continue to. the point is... rovers are far more secure defensively with todd in the team. i await people bringing up his mistake against everton.
  15. as is you bringing up you've been playing and watching football for 40 years. i fail to see the relevance. ive family members who've played professionally and watched rovers for 60 years. so ???? on todd, i prefer to judge him by his performances on the pitch. he's a great reader of the game, his positional play is excemplarary and his superb displays over the last 3 seasons alone warrant him being in the team.
  16. bob, benni has also been given an 8, despite mr dinnis saying he was very poor.
  17. the 40 years thing is neither here nor there. exibit A---- i remember coming out of ewood in 92/93- we'd just been beaten by palace 2-1 (again), and an old fella was raging next to me. he said ''i've been watching rovers for FIFTY years. that dalglish will do nothing for the club, i'd rather see a monkey with it's scull crushed in managing rovers!'' is he an authority ? exibit B--- coming out of bramall lane on saturday. 2 senior gentlemen discussing rovers. ''i think hughes has lost the dressing room. it's going to be a long hard season. pedersen played them on his own.'' do you see my point ?
  18. bob, i said put your differences aside! the radio lancs commentators were my eyes last night and he had a particularly shakey start and finish. the questions simple, at this moment in time, who've rovers fans got more confidence in.... ooijer or todd ? i know who the people who went to sheff utd with me will choose.
  19. i didnt see the game, but i'm now an authority on china's plans for the fed cup! it sounded as though we created several good chances, and that's encouraging, but we defended poorly. for the good of blackburn rovers, differences should be put aside and todd should partner zurab. anyone who doesnt think we'll be more secure with that partnership, is blinkered and doesnt understand the game.
  20. i enjoyed the game. korea played some real stuff. rovers will be on at some point, but could be a late one.
  21. MH backs him to come good. http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...ed+to+come+good AND.... acuna is miffed!
  22. fear not. http://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/content/ar..._salzburg.shtml
