  1. After much thought - and I mean much thought - I finally succumbed and bought my JW Upper season ticket today. I suppose after almost sixty years the habit was just to great to break - but I've got to be honest I never thought I would come so close to not renewing and still not happy about so many aspects of the way things are at the moment.
  2. Not in towns like Blackburn. Local lockdown towns excluded. I suspect we will be one of the last to allow fans back into the ground.
  3. Lots of encouraging points to take away from the game - Dolan and Rothwell when they came on, Johnson in midfield, Williams looked solid at the back and the 'keeper looked fine. However, you can't win games by conceding three goals. I wouldn't blame Dolan as he was in the Bournemouth half trying to create something - more than enough time and distance for midfield and defenders to cover the break. One of our problems stems from the midfield giving opponents far too much time and space around our own area. Whilst disappointed with the result, I thought the performance was encouraging, in particular I liked the way the manager set the team up and approached the game - very much on the front foot and looking to take the game to the opposition.
  4. I've read it several times Paul and the way I read it - and I may be wrong because it's far from clear - is that the lower tiers will be sold first to supporters and the JW Upper will initially be kept for the corporate supporters. I read it that corporate supporters will be able to buy a season ticket - as they do now - for the JW Upper. I hope I'm wrong and your interpretation is correct. I will endeavour to try to get some form of clarification.
  5. I'll be honest arbitro, I've tried to support the club on here throughout this difficult period and tried to understand the problems the club is facing. But they really do make it difficult. If they had said we are keeping the JW Upper closed because of costs or the difficulties in making it Covid secure I could understand that and accept that. But to throw out long time season ticket holders - many like myself who are senior citizens shall we say - in favour of the corporate brigade is, quite frankly, nothing short of disgraceful. The JW Upper is one of the larger seated areas, it's an area where older fans may well have felt more secure in terms of social distancing but instead lets bunch everyone together in the lower tier as it will look better on TV. As you say, when we are both at Swansea or Cardiff on a cold wet Wednesday night, where are the corporate mob at that point? I know that Covid is making life difficult for every one of us and every business is facing difficult decisions but the Rovers seem unable to grasp that looking after an ever decreasing supporter base is going to be vital, not just this season but in the years to come. Covid-19 could easily become Mr. Waggott's 1960 Cup Final fiasco!
  6. I'll be honest, I've sat in the Jack Walker upper since it was built and in the Nuttall Street Stand before that. I would happily sit anywhere in the JW upper but I will not buy a season ticket to sit behind the goals in the Blackburn End. As you know, we often have to do that at away games and I really don't enjoy watching football from that viewpoint. I had every intention of buying a season ticket even though I thought I would probably not go to many games because of the virus. However, now that I know I'm going to be kicked out of the JW upper to allow corporate to have that area I doubt if I'll bother renewing.
  7. I suspect we may struggle to enter stadiums until next spring by the sounds of it. Looks like another few months of watching on iFollow. I notice Bournemouth have their own TV channel but haven't put the price up for Saturday's game last time l looked.
  8. Notice Doncaster races now to be held behind closed doors - sensible decision in the present circumstances.
  9. The new restrictions coming in on Monday have surely put paid to fans in grounds for the immediate future. The club are in a no win situation really - damned if they do and damned if they don't. As you say, if tickets had been sold before government approval the club would be facing the same reaction they got in March with regard to refunds. The situation is so fluid in terms of local lockdowns - and now a national lockdown in terms of socialising - it's difficult to see when and how fans will be allowed back in any numbers. A few hundred in a ground is one thing but several thousands is another something which wouldn't make any sense at the moment.
  10. I suspect that will come into the thinking with regard to reopening grounds. Fans will naturally go into pubs before the game for a drink and then into the ground and that may well delay opening League grounds in this area. I'm still struggling with the fact that I'm not able meet a friend in the garden, socially distanced, but it seems perfectly OK to go into a packed pub according to the government.
  11. I suspect the new lockdown in Bolton may will have an impact and that the Government might well be reluctant to sanction crowds gathering in the North West. Shutting pubs and restaurants in Bolton and then allowing football with fans just ten miles or so down the road would be very questionable. I think the situation in Bolton shows just how difficult it is for any club to plan for the forthcoming season - the situation is so fluid that restrictions can be imposed at a moment's notice and with devastating results for the community and businesses. This coming season is not going to be normal in anyway, shape or form.
  12. A very enjoyable game for a pre-season friendly and a very encouraging performance, particularly in the second half. Felt sorry for Fisher who made a couple of clangers but otherwise did OK. I thought Williams was excellent at centre-back and Magloire was outstanding. Tyler has pace which always got him out of trouble in the Under-23's and I thought he looked very comfortable today for the most part. Nyambe was very impressive at right-back and surely the time has come to extend this lad's contract - heaven knows why we would be thinking of not doing so. JRC looked the part going forward and Buckley oozed class when he came on in midfield. The biggest disappointment for me was Brereton who looked totally ineffective against better opposition. Whilst it was only a friendly, there were some very encouraging performances from our youngsters which can only be a positive for the future of the club.
  13. Often commercial reasons dictate what strip is worn rather than a clash of colours. Red has been our traditional away kit because it doesn't clash with clubs playing in blue or blue and white stripes. I'll leave it at that as it's a pointless discussion.
  14. Do you actually attend away matches chaddy? If you did you would know that we can and have played in Blue and White at all the clubs you mention.
  15. I've watched Rovers play at both Brentford and Stoke in blue & white in recent years without a problem, same at Boro and Rotherham. There is no reason for a third strip.
  16. Why would we need a third kit? We've played in Blue & White at all of the clubs you mention in the past without any problems. All it needs is a pair of blue or black shorts.
  17. Really enjoying the Tottenham documentary on Amazon. It highlights the size of the operation at Tottenham today. Been to White Hart Lane on more occasions than I care to remember - not the best of hunting grounds for us - but the new stadium and the administrative centre are light years away from what the old ground used to be. Looking at the infrastructure they have in place both at the ground and at the training ground you can see why the top club's require Champions League football. On another level its quite depressing as it shows just how far away we are from that level of operation - in fairness probably the overwhelming majority of Premier League and Championship clubs are. There are probably five or six clubs - United, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, and Arsenal if they ever get their act together - who can operate at that level year in and year out. Every other club is hoping for one lucky season when they get everything right and one of the top six slip up.
  18. The object of any game is to win - we won so job done!
  19. He played several games for the Under-23s last season. I think there were Lancashire Cup games when players were given the option at times if they felt they needed game time to improve their fitness levels.
  20. In fairness I really don't think Chapman's lack of progress is down to Mowbray. At the start of last season his performance levels for the Under-23s were dreadful for a young lad trying to make an impression. Sadly, the impression he made was the sort that would not endear him to any manager. His attitude was in stark contrast to the likes of Smallwood or Graham when they turned out for the Under-23s and took a professional pride in their performance. Ironically, his better games were often when he was playing a more central role. I think it's his lack of workrate that has held him back when playing out wide. Wide players have to get back and defend as its simply part of the role of being a winger today - indeed, has been for many years. Sadly, Chapman doesn't seem to have the ability or will to do this. Maybe the injuries have taken something from him but at the moment he looks a long way from a Championship player.
  21. Must admit that I really like the new shirt. Much better effort than those in recent years for me.
  22. Decent first-half but went to pieces when Holtby went off. Started the second-half poorly and paid the price. Pleased with the recovery to win the match - in Cup games that's all the matters. I was impressed with Dolan again - the difference between him and Chapman is chalk and cheese - and really can't see much future for Chapman here. Once again, I thought Rothwell flattered to deceive. He has the ability but very rarely delivers an end product. A squad player but not a regular starter for me. We are desperate for a left-back. Bell simply can't defend and going forward he rarely gets a decent cross in. Again, OK for a back-up option but not as a starter. A decent left-back and experienced centre-back should be our main priorities at this point. I think we are well covered in midfield with Johnson, Travis, Evans, Holtby, Buckley, Davenport. I must admit that I liked the new home strip.
  23. I must admit that I was surprised our game against Bournemouth hasn't been chosen for Sky. Guess it will be a case of watching on Bournemouth's iFollow.
  24. The way I read it is that iFollow will continue whilst there are restricted numbers in grounds. If you can't attend then you have the iFollow option. But I agree, it could well become shambolic in terms of deciding who's allowed in if numbers are severely restricted. I suspect iFollow will have to stay in place for most of the season if not all of it.
