  1. I think it's just the standard response to anyone around 35 years old these days, give them a coaching role.
  2. A keeper and a centre half are absolute musts, two of each if the budget allows it. Which is why our first signing will be a central midfielder or a "wide" forward.
  3. I see it the other way to be honest, if the players & directors had all taken huge pay cuts (not deferrals) then I would look at my £60/70 or whatever it is and think "fair enough, we're all pulling the same way together, keep the money" However, as others have said, if the club can afford to pay Ritchie Smallwood and Charlie Mulgrew thousands of pounds a week to do nothing, and double all the directors salaries, then why shouldn't I ask for my £60 back?
  4. To be fair this is just a EFL/Sky announcement, let's at least give the club a chance to make a statement over the next few days into what options are for supporters, as every club will be different no doubt. I hope they do the right thing and offer those who need it cash refunds, but we'll see. I got my refunds for the Barnsley and Wigan away games a few weeks ago, I just rang them up and asked the question. Posted them back to the club and they refunded.
  5. As has been said by a few before if this was 30 years ago the whole thing would have been void by now. This desperation of chasing this TV money and to hell with any sporting integrity is a massive turn off to me, the future of so many clubs in the balance and then I read last night that Chelsea have agreed a deal for Timo Werner for a rediculous fee, and that Spurs have just secured a £160m loan. Curiosity will probably see me watch a bit at the start but I can't see myself watching too much premier league when it comes back on and genuinely can't understand any excitement of 92 games back to back on tv behind closed doors, it'll get boring very quickly I think.
  6. That Man Utd game is still probably one of my favourite games I have ever attended, being a young lad in a town which back then was dominated with Utd fans, it was certainly a sweet feeling when meeting up with my mates in the days afterward. I genuinely thought we were going to go on and win the league after that game. As a side note, I think this was the first time that Sky had moved a game from 3pm to 5pm on a Saturday so they could show it live.
  7. I always think of Bellamy too when thinking of Speedie and his one season. Speedie was fantastic in that year, and was probably my first ever footballing "hero", but hell, Bellamy was incredible, and was probably the main reason we went from a bottom six top flight side to a top six side top flight side within a year..
  8. Jason Steele must be laughing all the way to the bank at the moment.
  9. We won't be investing in a promotion push this year, I think we can safely all agree on that. Yes fair enough it will all still count, but I can't say I will care as much watching behind closed doors football. I imagine there will be plenty in the same boat too. I think investing more time in the youngsters now is the perfect time if everything is behind closed doors, if someone exceptional like a Downing pops up on a free for the GK or CH position and we can realistically get them then fair enough.
  10. The reserve goalkeeper position must be the cushiest job in the world.
  11. I'd be tempted to let anyone out of contract go to be honest. Next season will be like glorified training games anyway, I think it would be a good time to promote more from the under 23's. Give more game time to JRC, Buckley, Chapman, Davenport, Butterworth, and promote people like Thompson, Mols, Carter to the fringes of the side. It might just stand them in good stead to when we get going properly again.
  12. It's strange isn't it. I live in a small town, population circa 30k or so. For as long as I can remember, the town had three barber shops, two in the town centre and one on the outskirts as part of a small complex for people who lived at that end of the town. Now all of a sudden in the past two or thee years another six have opened, and before the lockdown whenever you would walk past them they would all be empty, whilst two of the original three in the town centre would always be very busy.
  13. That was Dion Dublin, had bid accepted but he had no interest of coming here and went Villa instead.
  14. I think this was one of the measures the clubs were advised to take in training, rather than the actual matches themselves. I've watched a bit of the Bundesliga this afternoon to see what it's like. It wasn't bad for a bit of background noise and something to watch for 10 minutes; I don't really follow the league though so it's difficult to get into and care. Be interesting when the prem/champ starts to see how they come across on tv and the intensity levels involved.
  15. Strange one Sherwood really. I thought he was a really good footballer, could switch the play well, good at linking defence to attack, and had an eye for goal running from deep. I never got the impression from him though, despite being captain, that he was the sort of player that would get you on top In a game if things weren't going well, really good player when the team is on song and doing well, but I always thought he hid a bit when things weren't going according to plan. Maybe I'm being unfair on him, but it was always the impression I got for some reason.
  16. I think for just over £2m, Gillespie could be considered a success. Part of our promotion campaign, and a regular in the side that won the league cup. Think they made 2 substitute appearances between them!
  17. With how far we have fallen to be fair, if Gallagher had been with us over the past decade, i'm sure he would be pretty close in our list too.
  18. Yeah, that first 6 months or so we played some fantastic stuff, certainly some of the best "football" I have ever seen from Rovers. On January 31st that season, we had lost 3 out of our first 24 games. We then went on to lose 9 of our last 14 games, just scraping into 6th place and Europe on the last day. After some really poor signings, Peacock, Dailly & Davidson all added to our defence, and Davies to our attack, we never really recovered going into the following season.
  19. Perez was a bit of both I think. Actually looked ok in his first few games but like said couldn't settle. I remember being surprised we let Ripley go that summer, he had a really good season in 97-98 and even got on the scoresheet for the first time since 1994!
  20. I think if a Souness type of manager had got hold of Rochina he could have turned out to be a good one, similar to how Jansen thrived under Souness. Rochina was never going to flourish under Ke*n, Berg, Appleton or Bowyer though.
  21. Definitely not. I'm not really missing football in general at the moment to be honest.
  22. Not everyones cup of tea Simon Jordan, but I have always liked him. Tells it as it is.
